🌾 Farming with heart, science, and sustainability.
Join us (just a short drive north of Edmonton in Barrhead County) for a day of hands-on fun, interactive displays, and down-to-earth farm life at Quedenbaum Farms during Open Farm Days! We grow wheat, barley, rye, canola, and peas—and raise pigs, sheep, and chickens—with a strong focus on sustainability, education, and family fun.
This year’s Open Farm Days is packed with something for everyone:
🧪 Test grain moisture and explore our grain displays
🌾 Try grain milling by hand and press fresh canola oil
🐣 Hold fluffy chicks and watch us candle eggs – we might see some moving inside the shell
🐑 Feed our American Blackbelly sheep and learn how they are different from other sheep
🌞 Find out how our pigs stay cool during Alberta’s hot summer days—hint: it’s messier than you think!
🌻 Explore native wildflower plots and learn why they matter
🚜 Tour our machinery and sit on the driver’s seat for the ‘real’ feel
🔋 Check out our grid-tied solar panels and learn how we power the farm with the sun
🌱 Play in grain like a sandbox, complete with farm toys for little hands to explore different crops
🌾 Climb and play on hay/straw bales just like real farm kids
🌍 Learn how we farm sustainably, care for the environment and support biodiversity
Special Guests & Exhibits:
Gateway Research Organization (GRO) will demonstrate soil testing and share the science behind better farming
The Athabasca Watershed Council will show how we can keep waterways clean – for safe, secure drinking water supplies, healthy aquatic ecosystems, and reliable, quality water supplies for a sustainable economy and future generations.
ALUS (Alternative Land Use Services) will showcase how farmers and ranchers create nature-based solutions on their land to build climate resilience and enhance biodiversity for the benefit of communities and future generations. Including a bat detector so you can hear the bats chatting from our bat houses!
Burnt Water Roasters will roast fresh coffee at our farm to sample right here or to take home. We will have a special Barrhead Open Farm Day flavor to be enjoyed hot or cold.
Bring the whole family for a farm-filled day of learning, exploring, and connecting with nature and agriculture.
