We produce a variety of craft beer using top quality ingredients, including Alberta grown malt.

Our products are all brewed and packaged in-house. Our tour will include a walk through of the brewing facility, discussing the process from start to finish. Where we source ingredients, what we do with our spent grain, how we brew and package our products, and how we distribute them. Tours may also include samples (must be 18+).

ALCLA Native Plants is a native plant nursery founded in 1992 and operating in Carstairs since 2023.

We offer genetically diverse, sustainably sourced native plants and seeds—featuring over 200 species of wildflowers, grasses, and shrubs native to Alberta, on Treaty 7 Territory. We also provide custom growing and educational services. Native plants are climate-adapted, drought-tolerant once established, and essential for supporting pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. They’re also stunningly beautiful—and many have edible and medicinal properties. All of our plants and seeds are free of chemical pesticides.

Aurora Alpacas is a family-owned alpaca ranch on 80 acres.

We purchased our 1st 2 alpacas in 2017 and since then, we have produced National, Supreme and Color Champions, which we are extremely proud of. Currently we have 30 alpacas with 7 cria (babies) expected this summer. If you are curious about alpacas & the amazing fiber products and how they are produced come visit us to learn & experience this unique livestock firsthand. Learn to love alpacas like we do by getting a change to: - see alpacas (including babies) up close, take photos - handle fiber shorn from the alpaca this spring, and samples from various stages of processing into yarn - ask questions and gain knowledge about what makes alpacas so unique - watch spinning/weaving demonstrations - visit the market to purchase alpaca products, yarn and alpaca novelty items We've also invited some local vendors to share in the fun - other products include pottery, hand-made soap, eggs, and more.

Please note that Alberta apples are not ready for harvest until September, so apple picking will not be available during Open Farm Days. The Eastern Irrigation District invites you to explore the vital role water plays in southern Alberta agriculture with exclusive guided tours of the historic Bassano Dam.

Why Water Matters
Constructed more than 110 years ago, the Bassano Dam - owned and operated by the EID - remains a vital part of Alberta’s irrigation infrastructure. This tour will explore how water is diverted from the Bow River to supply agriculture throughout the Eastern Irrigation District, helping transform southern Alberta’s prairie landscape into productive farmland.

• Cross the main spillway structure to view gates, hoists, and the friction wall up close

• Tour our Emergency Spillway adjacent to the Bassano Dam

Accessibility Notice
Due to the nature of the facility, the tour is not suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, or persons with limited mobility. It includes a significant amount of walking, over six flights of stairs, and steep walkways.

Beacon Farms is a small agricultural business specializing in raising Boer goats to produce premium quality goat meat.

Started in 2020 Beacon Farms is owned and managed by Sarah Gibbard and her son. Nestled in Flagstaff County's grain farming country just outside the bustling town of Daysland, Beacon Farms is currently home to around 40 Boer goats. However, when the babies are also on the farm there are around 120 goats on the farm in total. Beacon Farms takes great care in raising their goats in a free range environment the promotes optimum goat health and quality meat. Although the goats on Beacon Farms are not registered animals we are constantly striving to improve the breed through selecting top quality sires and retaining only the best doelings to expand the herd.

During Open Farm Days Beacon Farms will open the public for farm tours which will include being up close and personal with some of this years bottle baby goats including a discussion on goat confirmation and selecting quality animals.

The farm will also do goat hoof trimming demonstrations, discussions on goat husbandry, goat nutrition.

We will also discuss the challenges to finding a market for goat meat and the way we have chosen to process, package, market and sell our meat.

On Saturday Beacon Farms will have a market on site as well featuring local vendors from the Flagstaff county. Beacon Farms will have a few different goat meat dishes prepared so guests can sample a recipe using goat meat.

Beck Farms was established in 1986 and has since then been mastering the art of cultivating carrots, celebrating our 40th year.

The farm is run by a family team consisting of Shelley & Rod Bradshaw and their two sons, Kurt and Brent. Their main focus is on producing and packing only the highest quality products. The farm has expanded its offerings over the years and now also grow Cole crops, Dill, Peppers, Tomatoes, Tomatillos, Corn, Melons, and several hand made preserves. Beck Farms takes great pride in their work and strives to provide their customers with fresh, delicious produce.

Welcome to our U-Pick!

You are welcome to take a self directed tour of our fruit, veggie and flower u-pick farm.  Pick your way through our beautiful gardens! Produce is neatly labeled to better understand what the plants are.

We are a family farm growing U pick fruits and vegetables since 2009 starting with our first crop of strawberries which promptly got hit with hail!  Days later there was a strong scent of berry juice, shock and heartbreak in the air.  What an education! Crops can be gone in minutes - frost on blossoms, drought and heat, hail and snow, it's crazy. What a business to be in!  But it's not always horrible and we enjoy nurturing seedlings and seeing them mature into something people enjoy picking. After a long Alberta winter's wait, the rush of Spring begins with planning and planting, tending, weeding, watering and sky watching.  Cool Alberta nights produce the best tasting crops!  And when it’s time, the invitation goes out via word of mouth and social media to come over and pick, pick pick!  In 2023 we added more picking pleasure for our customers:  a u pick flower garden! Even though we are open to the public from 7am to 8pm everyday during the production months, we thank Alberta Open Farm Days and all the advertiser’s for extending an extra invitation to come explore rural Alberta and Billyco Junction Gardens where we can be found tucked right between our major urban centres. During the free two‑day event, guests can:

• See the mash tuns where barley + glacier water meet
• Smell fermentation rising, balanced by water temperature and yeast activity.
• See the copper stills where the final spirit is produced.

Most people drive past the farms that feed them every day without ever knowing who grows the food or how it gets to the table. Open Farm Days is the chance to change that. On August 15, the Brooks Farmers' Market is your starting point. Meet the producers behind your food, ask how irrigation shapes prairie agriculture, and pick up a Taste the Market Passport to guide your visit Before you head out to the farms, grab a regional map at our Open Farm Days display and build your route from here.

The Bruderheim Agricultural Society preserves the history of our community and provides educational programs related to urban agriculture.

Join us as we tour residential vertical gardens and urban agriculture, native plant gardens at the Interpretive Centre and the community garden.

• View and hear about the changes in farm machinery through the years- from horse drawn equipment to what we have today.
• Learn about the work of a farrier and see first hand how they work on animal hoofs.
• Tours to local greenhouse, pollinator gardens and a vertical urban garden and how chickens are integrated
• Working dog demonstrations will be offered throughout the day.
• A visit to the local museum will take you back in time, learning about the farming as it was in the 1930 - 1960 era.
• Join us at the handicraft market at Walker School and sampling of local foods.

We are a local family run dairy farm

We are located just 2 miles north of Bentley, Alberta. We have been in operation at this location since 1987. The barn we are in now was built in 2017 and includes a complete robotic milking setup. We currently have a milking robot that milks the cows, a feeding robot that delivers feed to the animals 24/7, and robotic manure collection units that clean up after the animals 24/7.

We will have farm tours throughout the day showcasing the latest and greatest in the dairy industry on how milk is produced.

Burnt River Ranch is a small farm located in the beautiful Saddle Hills County.

We specialize in heritage breed hogs; operating a small-scale farrow to finish pork operation; where piglets are born on our farm and then raised on a pasture/forest environment in the most natural way possible. We also sell a few weaner piglets to local producers looking to raise their own pork. Aside from the pigs, we also have beef and dairy cattle, pastured poultry and waterfowl, egg layers, and a few horses. We utilize Šarplaninac livestock guardian dogs to protect our stock and live harmoniously with the predators in our area. Our farm practices regenerative and sustainable agriculture practices like rotational grazing, using poultry tractors, development of silvopastures, and protecting our riparian areas. Our goal is to create nutrient dense, ethically raised meat for our local community while maintaining soil health and stewarding the land that allows us to do so.

We will be offering guided farm tours mid-day. These involve walking so please wear close toed shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. 

Biosecurity is important on our farm to prevent disease transfer, so please wear clean footwear and utilize the boot wash that will be on-site.

Please leave pets at home! We use livestock guardian dogs to protect our livestock here and they do not tolerate strange dogs being on the farm.

We also ask that you be mindful of keeping out of the animal pens (including your hands) and do not feed the animals.

Pasture Wagon Experience Tour (45 minutes) will depart at: 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, 2:30 pm

Whether you're a first-time visitor or a long-time friend of the farm, this authentic pasture experience is a great way to connect with agriculture and celebrate our 115-year legacy. Join us for a tour through our beautiful pastures and discover how we raise our Angus beef with care, respect, and sustainable grazing practices. As you ride through the ranch, you'll learn how we manage our cattle using rotational grazing and why it's an important part of caring for both the animals and the land. We'll share how we decide when it's time to move the herd, when a pasture is ready to be grazed again, how weather impacts our grass, and what our cattle eat throughout the changing seasons. You'll also learn about the daily forage needs of our cattle and how thoughtful pasture management helps keep our herd healthy. Along the way, you'll meet our cow-calf pairs, watch them peacefully grazing, and observe their natural behaviours in the pasture. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect with the land, learn where your food comes from, and meet the ranchers who have cared for these animals since birth. Soak up the prairie sunshine, breathe in the fresh country air, and enjoy a scenic wagon ride across our ranch. As a special seasonal bonus, tour also include a ride past our pumpkin patch. Our freeze-dried shop specializes in preserving locally grown fruit and vegetables, turning seasonal harvests into delicious, shelf-stable snacks and ingredients you can enjoy anytime. While you're here, we'll teach you about the process of freeze-drying food, let you enjoy petting the animals, and let you sample some of our delicious freeze-dried fruits and veggies, made with love from locally grown produce.

The 4th annual Coaldale Ag Society Open Farm Days Bus Tour has arrived!

Join us for a fun-filled, full-day guided bus tour celebrating the incredible agriculture and farming community right here in the Coaldale area!

This family-friendly adventure will take you behind the scenes at a variety of local agricultural operations and give you a chance to learn more about the people, businesses, and industries that help feed our communities.

Custom Woolen Mills is a small, family owned and operated, woolen mill!

We are located between the towns of Carstairs and Linden, Alberta. Using industrial revolution era machinery, we transform raw sheep's wool and the fibre from alpacas, llamas, goats, and bison, into finished products like hand-knitting yarns and woolen socks.

Six generations of family farming later, we operate a mixed farm consisting primarily of vegetables, cattle, and traditional grain crops. We are known for Alberta's largest asparagus patch, freshly hand-picked super sweet garden peas, and lots of other great vegetables.

We are offering free tours* to our veggie fields on Saturday August 15, 2026!

• Come learn all about our farm and vegetable production in Alberta and try your hand at picking super sweet shelling peas, green & yellow beans, broad beans and more (based on availability).

• After the tour pop into our Country Store for some great hand-picked fresh vegetables, handmade take and bake fruit and savoury pies, preserves, Angus beef and so much more!

• Please note we are not open on Sunday. 

Our Country Store is all about home grown goodness! We offer farm-direct seasonal farm gate sales of our home grown sweet and tender Asparagus Mid May until the end of June, freshly picked garden peas July & August and many other veggies. In the freezer, you can pick up Edgar Farms home raised, hormone- and antibiotic-free, grass fed Angus beef. Also there are naturally fermented veggies, asparagus, green pea and borscht soups and ready-to-bake homemade fruit & savoury pies. The preserves shelves are brimming with a large selection of handmade preserves using traditional recipes and our own home grown ingredients with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Everything is natural as it should be. Don’t forget your cooler! The Country Store is open 10 AM – 5 PM Monday to Saturday, Closed Sundays, from early May until early September.

At Ehrenholz Farms, we raise beef cattle and spend our days managing pastures and cows.

Join us at Open Farm Days to watch the cows manage our grass for us and learn about the work we do.  Our family-friendly, hands-on experiences will teach you new skills and have you seeing the world from a cow's-eye view. You will see demonstrations of an off-site watering system and temporary electric fencing. You will also be able to examine our cattle handling equipment and view an exhibit showing different parts of a cow and how it is cut up into beef. Learn from the Experts  Our focus this year is to share information with you.  Frank will share his passion for apples with you   He planted his apple orchard, Addicted to Apples, over the past several years and has over 10 varieties of apples   What is the difference?  What hurdles did he encounter on his journey? Presentation begins at 11:30. We are thrilled to host Bryanna and a portion of her flower farm BarOA Farms on our site. Flower farms are blooming everywhere but it takes more than pretty blooms to operate a flower farm.  Hear from Bryanna about her journey into the business and how she has transitioned her original dream into what Bar OA is today.  Bryanna will present at 12:30. Brock will highlight what it has been like on his journey to becoming a grain farmer - starting with nothing but a passion. This passion to share what a farmer goes through led to Akers Acres program - farming vicariously through Farmer Brock.  The  crop this year is wheat. Why did he choose the crop, and seeds he did and what goes does it take to grow and harvest the crop so you can have flour for your bread and baking?  Presentation begins at 1:30 . Speaking of baking…did you know the dream of Edmonton’s Fifendekel Pie Shop Cafes, is connected to the farm?  Hear the Fife story.  You may even leave with a new recipe idea. Presentation begins at 2:30. There will be an opportunity to try your hand at some unique creations (nominal fees apply) and leave the farm with more than just information. Fellowship Farms is planting new roots- and we'd love for you to be a part of the journey!

This year, we're inviting guests to visit our new farm location, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how we're building a farm to not only raise our growing cattle herd, but to grow community as well.

Only a short 25 minute drive east of Edmonton, nestled in the Beaver Hills Biosphere, you will find a small farm with a BIG heart for people, animals, the local community and regenerative farming practices. With this year's theme of WATER, your visit will include some hands on stations about how water plays a vital role in everything we do, because after all - water is the lifeblood of every farm.

We will also have:

• a "dirt zone" for kids to play with diggers, tractors, and bouncy animals
• animals that you can meet up close - cows, pigs, horses, a mini donkey and more.
• a farm stand where you can purchase our products

Because we are a direct to consumer meat producer, we will of course have frozen meat available for purchase. We raise grass-fed and finished beef and heritage pastured pork. From ground beef to brisket, bacon to pork shoulders and everything in between, there is something for every meat lover out there. Bring a cooler along if you'd like to purchase some of our meat. We also have tallow products and spice blends that we make here on the farm. There will be food and drinks available for purchase on site. Foggy Pond Farm is a small working farm that has always concentrated on raising our own farm animals and gardens to provide for our families.

We enjoy sharing our fun little farm and all of our knowledge with everyone that comes to visit. We are also fortunate enough to have a large pond to enjoy nature watching by and forested areas for some great walks. Our latest addition to the farm is a licensed kitchen where we are able to share some of our favorite meals and baked goods as well as processing what we harvest from our gardens.

• Open Farm Days activities will include farm animal interactions with learning opportunities about the animals.
• Visitors can stop by the kitchen for a meal or treat and a demonstration about canning and food processing.
• During garden exploring and a nature walk visitors will be encouraged to collect greenery and flowers to participate in a led nature craft.

The log barn hosts a small Farm Market with the opportunity to peruse produce and handmade wares and crafts that are for sale.

Step back into the past with a visit to the original Pegg family farmstead, established in 1913. Join us to learn about the challenges our early farmers faced raising livestock and doing daily household chores.

Young George Pegg developed a keen interest in plants and as an adult he made valuable contributions to the record of Alberta’s native plants. His original plant collector’s garden is the centerpiece of this site. Also at the Garden: Meet our talented artists at the 12th Annual Art in the Garden Show and Sale. This year we are delighted to welcome our Artist in Residence, Lisa Matthias. Come join us for an afternoon of fun!

On our farm where we raise Chickens, Pigs and Cattle, all on pasture or in the forest.

We will do guided Farm Tours throughout the afternoon followed by equipment tours for whoever is interested.

• Starting at 6pm we will have a fire pit going (or BBQ depending on weather) and everyone is welcome to bring a picnic supper and something to roast on the fire.
• There is a swing set and some lawn games available for kids (or adults) to play with.
• You are also welcome to explore the farm on your own or visit with one of us by the Tent. Coffee, Lemonade and Water provided.

The tours will involve quite a bit of walking through pasture and forest. Closed toed shoes are recommended. Also come prepared for the weather and please leave pets at home. We would kindly ask that you stay out of animals pens unless a farm team member is with you. ***We are excited to announce that two neighbouring farms are also participating in Open Farm days this year. Out to Lunch Farmstead and The Y-Knot Farm. That means there will be 3 farms close together to visit! *** Hope to see you there!

Escape to the countryside and enjoy everything our hobby farm has to offer!

Taste some of our own fresh berries in a parfait, wander beautiful old growth forest trails while learning about the local plants, visit our friendly animals (Charlie the rabbit, chickens and a few horses), try the mini golf range, or simply relax beside the pond in our gazebo. It's the perfect place to spend quality time with family and friends while enjoying nature and make lasting memories.

• There is also a scavenger hunt with a Gospel theme for those interested. We can't wait to share our farm with you during Open Farm Days!

Welcome to Hamingja (Icelandic for Happiness) - Heritage Farm & Nature Preserve

We are a small Livestock Conservation Farm for awareness & preservation of the ancient Scottish Soay Sheep breed and  Navajo Churro, as well as landrace Icelandic chickens and Rouen ducks. The farm also showcases Gotland and Icelandic Sheep and Rainbow Trout. Our 2026 guided farm tours provide a real time focus on why ancient breeds of livestock have a place in agriculture today as we explore these historical livestock through interactive demonstrations of carding and felting, viewing the rare and unique Soay (one of the world's oldest sheep breeds), Navajo Churro, Gotland and Icelandic Sheep, meeting our livestock guardian dog “on the job”, and learning about aquaculture. With our farm's location on the lands and waters of the Blueberry Springs Trout Hatchery, we are offering a close look at the process of raising rainbow trout along with the water and pasture needs of farms, communities, and our province. Throughout tours, the farm shares awareness of the challenges in current drought conditions, water quality, and effective water and pasture management.

• Janina, "the city girl with a romantic view of farming" is a member of the Soay and Boreray Sheep Society from the UK and the Livestock Conservancy.  She is a passionate shepherdess, teacher, musician and naturalist who will tour you about the farm and regale you with names and stories of these rare and unique "critters".
• John is a fish farmer, shepherd, tradesman, bee keeper and musician who is a strong advocate for water stewardship. He is a river man, canoeist and has a passion for everything about water!
• Beulah is an educator, world traveler, and the fibre arts mentor and artisan who'll involve you in felting, fibre fun, carding and other close up looks at the fleeces of our Soay and Icelandic sheep.

At Hamingja - Heritage Farm & Nature Preserve, we are sincerely grateful to live, learn, work, and travel within Treaty 6 and we recognize and  honor this ancestral and traditional homeland of the Nehiyaw, Dene, Niitsitapi, Saulteaux, Stoney Nakoda, and members of the Metis Nation of Alberta who live, carry the knowledge of, and travel these lands for time immemorial.  

Hammerstrap Industries Inc. is excited to welcome visitors on Saturday, August 15 between 11am - 3pm.

Lemonade will be available for guests upon arrival, and you will get a short introduction of how Hammerstrap came to be and its impact on the farming community - both locally and nationally. We will have a tractor led hay ride with a guide to give our visitors an overview of the yard and the equipment available. One of the aspects will be to show how the equipment has evolved over the years and the changes that has created in farming. If you are curious about any of the equipment, just ask! There will be a few pieces of equipment - like antique tractors - available for photos, along with some props to have some fun with the picture.

As groups go for the wagon ride, you can put your name in a draw for one of our Hammerstrap hats and we will make a draw at the end of every ride!

At Harmonic Hills, we offer immersive, land-based education rooted in permaculture, herbalism, and regenerative living.

Welcome to Kootenai Brown Historical Park in Pincher Creek, Alberta!

We have 6 and a half acres, beautifully manicured with over 35 historical buildings, packed with artifacts, for visitors to explore. Our museum highlights the history of our area from the 1870s to 1960s here in the beautiful foothills of Southern Alberta. Join us for a day in the Village and step back in time. We also have a café that is serving up lunch! Everyone is welcome to our historical village, except the dog. Please leave pets at home.

Kross Farm produces incredible vegetables with no watering, minimal weeding and no chemicals (herbicides or fertilizers).

We use regenerative practices to protect our soil which in turn creates healthy plants that produce huge amounts of vegetables. We support the entire ecosystem around our vegetables which in turns a beautiful check and balance that keeps the pest insects as well as disease and disorders in check for us, no chemicals required!

On Open Farm Days, visitors can tour the farm and be introduced to chemical free, water free and weed free growing!

Visitors can also purchase fresh vegetables fresh from the field! A hands on no till class will be offered for a separate registration fee.

Lakeside Farmstead Cheese is locally crafted in Sturgeon County, Alberta using our very own single-source milk.  We are excited to offer quality products produced sustainably at the farm—food we are proud to serve on our table and yours.

Lakeside Farmstead will be providing FREE tours of our Calf Barn!

This will allow visitors to see the care of the calves, heifers and cows on our farm. There will be an overview of not only our dairy program but also our beef program as well.

• We will also be providing a tour of our cheese facility for a nominal fee of $10/persons over 13 years old. This will include a look into how we produce cheese and the ageing process.

Hi my name is Sylvia. I am the owner of the Lone Pine Ranch Bed and Breakfast. With the support of volunteers from all over the world I run a herd of cattle and the B&B. When you come and visit our place our 3 dogs Jake, Shiloh and Willow will be the first ones to meet you, they love to welcome everyone of our guests personally. But there are many more animals to see: Alpacas, llamas, sheep, chickens, ducks, pigs, cats, guinea fowl, donkeys, a horse and a pony call the Lone Pine Ranch home. We are an active cattle ranch, cows, calves and bulls are here, but not necessarily in sight. Besides all the animals, we also run a Bed & Breakfast. Visitors can explore our cozy cabins and check out our dining room treats. There will also be a Country Market and Garage Sale at the ranch on Sunday the 16th of August with a variety of vendors from the region and Edmonton. Outdoor activities will include a roping station, horseshoe pitching, glitter tattoos and other games. Everyone is welcome to check out and observe the animals. There are eggs to collect in the chicken coop and we provide snacks so you can feed to the donkeys. Things to do:

• We will have pasture tours of rotational grazing to show the benefits to the animals and the soil.

• We will also show how chicken tractors can aid in growing healthier chicken for consuming.
• We will have raw wool to see the raw product that gets turned into the clothes we wear and how wool can help the environment and has many uses.

We will have a kids area to do crafts, and learn about the importance of farming. We will have an area to share information about the importance of regenerative farming and also about how small scale farming also can assist us in ethically raising animals that are happy and healthy. The store will be open for purchases. Bring a cooler! We will have hand washing stations and hand sanitizer and ask that good hand hygiene be used to reduce risks to our animals.

Musee St. Paul Museum is 2 museums in one that is proud to participate in Open Farm Days !

We will be having a number of activities that illustrate farming in the early days on the Alberta prairie.

Activities:

• petting zoo,
• cream separating demonstrations, churning ice cream once the cream is separated,
• making butter demonstrations and the ever popular hay ride for kids of all ages.
• Admission to the museum grounds is sponsored by St. Paul Community Futures so participants can access all the activities free of charge.

 

The Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre is a set of preserved grain elevators located in Nanton.

The Centre’s goal is to preserve these three remaining prairie icons to educate visitors about Nanton’s and Alberta’s agricultural history. As often as possible, tours are conducted by former grain elevator managers or employees, who are a wealth of information about these “skyscrapers of the prairies” that were so closely tied to the well-being of Alberta communities for so many years.

• Participants will enjoy tours of the restored Pioneer grain elevator and see the rare 1927 Alberta Wheat Pool twin elevators.
• Weather permitting, we will be holding engine runs featuring a 1/4 scale Case steam tractor model as well as a Fairbanks grain elevator engine.

Our farm stand will be open from 10 am to 6 pm Friday to Monday all season long, including over Open Farm Days. We will have tours of our farm starting at 12 pm, 2 pm and 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday and the family will be available at the farm stand all weekend long to answer your questions! As we are a working farm we ask that you please leave your own pets at home to support bio-security and minimize disruption to our animals.

We've taken up shop in the old fire hall in the hamlet of New Sarepta!

The building was destined to be knocked down, but we saw value in keeping the structure, which has played a large role in the history of our hamlet. Inside, we take local honey (some of it our own and some from neighbours) and local berries and ferment the world's oldest fermented adult beverage: Mead. You may have read about mead in Viking novels or TV shows.

We offer tours and tastings so people can become acquainted with the place mead has in human history.

Alberta produces some of the world's best honey, so why not also build a meadery industry at least that's what we think.

The Olds College Smart Farm is made up of more than 3,300 acres of land for crop and forage production including state-of-the-art equipment and technology,

1,000-head capacity feedlot, commercial cow/calf herd, Purebred Red Angus herd and sheep flock — as well as expertise and leadership in ag tech research and development. The Smart Farm also has access to greenhouses, labs, incubator space, a brewery, the National Meat Training Centre, plus additional infrastructure at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology. As technology continues to influence the way we live, work and farm, smart farms and technology development have a critical role to play in the global grand challenge of feeding a growing population with fewer resources while reducing the environmental impact. During your visit to Olds College, you will board a bus to tour past Campus Buildings and learn about programs at Olds College, pass by the Wetlands, then continue through our Feedlot, past the horse corrals and sheep barn, then through some of the research fields and finish at the Smart Farm Operations Centre.

At One Tree Ranching, home of OTR Meats & More, we are bringing the ranch to Patricia for Alberta Open Farm Days! Our goal is simple: to help people better understand where their food comes from in a way that is fun, informative, and maybe even a little unforgettable. Instead of offering a traditional farm tour, we will bring a couple of our Texas Longhorn cattle to the field across from OTR Meats & More. Visitors will have the opportunity to see these incredible animals and learn what makes the breed so unique, and discover how we raise and care for our cattle. Ask questions, hear honest answers, and experience a real, live connection to Alberta agriculture. From Ranch to Retail — How Your Beef Gets Here Join us by the field for a short talk about our Longhorn cattle. We will explain how they are raised, what makes the breed different, and how the beef travels from our ranch to the freezers at OTR Meats & More. Meat Matters — Beef Education You’ll Actually Use Learn practical ways to prepare and cook Longhorn beef with a live cooking demonstration. We will share helpful tips about choosing cuts, cooking lean Longhorn beef properly, and getting the most from the meat in your freezer. Visitors will also receive a freezer checklist and weekly meal planner to take home, making family meals and grocery planning a little easier.  Ask a Rancher — Real Conversations A real-life rancher will be available to answer questions, share stories, and talk openly about ranch life, raising cattle, and the work that goes into producing food. We will also be showing a short video introducing the Texas Longhorn breed and sharing the history of how Longhorn cattle came to Canada.

Origin Malting & Brewing in Strathmore will be hosting an "Ales & Artisans Market" in collaboration with Vintage and Vines Markets.

We have invited a few of our Malt Barley customers who will be providing samples and selling delicious beer, we have also invited local makers from all over the Strathmore area to join us! We will have the free market run from 11am-4pm on both days. We will also be hosting free Malt & Brewery Tours every hour from 12-4pm both Saturday and Sunday, to learn about the history and the farm that supplies Origin Malting & Brewing with all of their Barely!

We are a collaborative farm that produces fresh veggies, flowers, eggs, and honey.

We believe in building community surrounding food and offer a CSA veggie box subscription. We are offering tours of the site focusing on sustainability. This includes sharing our story and the benefits of collaboration, water conservation practices, and seed production. We will also be highlighting our composting practices with animal integration. Our site makes use of food waste which our chickens and pigs help compost. We also take in arborist waste to help build soil and conserve water through deep mulching. The flower u pick and farm stand will be open and we will be inviting other local vendors out for a mini market. Food will also be available on site from a mobile food vendor.

Sunday (ticketed event):  Farm-to-Table Cheddar Cheese Pierogi Making Class Join us for a hands-on farm-to-table experience and learn how to make our signature organic cheddar cheese pierogi from scratch. Your experience begins with a walk through our certified organic farm, where you'll learn about our family's story, organic farming practices, and how we truly "grow pierogi from the ground up and then harvest fresh potatoes,  You'll then head into our commercial kitchen to prepare the filling, make the dough by hand, roll, fill, and pinch your own traditional Polish pierogi. After the class, enjoy freshly cooked pierogi topped with butter and onions, then take home the pierogi you made to enjoy later.

We will be open Saturday August 15th 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and Sunday August 16th  10:00 am until 5:00 pm

Pitchfork Gardens opened in 2020.
We grow a variety of vegetables plus strawberries and raspberries for you to pick. We grow the normal to the wild, well as wild as vegetables can get. As the season runs from spring into the fall the types of vegetables change with the season.

We grow the following but not limited to: apples, beets, beet greens, beans, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, dill, fennel, garlic, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers -sweet and hot, potatoes, raspberries, shallots, strawberries, tomatoes The exact varieties are numerous for all types. For example we have 20 different tomatoes, 15 different peppers, 5 types of beans, two types of peas, 5 types of onions, 3 types of leeks and 4 types of types.

Pottery by Heather Studio is a working production studio, producing a complete line of functional porcelain pottery.

The pottery is hand thrown and fired in a gas kiln, making for unique and varied colourations. During Open Farm Days, Heather will be doing throwing demonstrations and taking visitors step by step through the process. She will be explaining where clay comes from, how pieces are made, how they are finished and firing of the work in the kilns. It is a magical process that is spellbinding. Being that the pottery studio is the full family income, there will also be discussions of owning and operating and marketing a unique business. The front of the studio property is a large sustaining vegetable garden. Produce is grown and put away for the winter months. The garden will be available to walk through. We also grow tomatoes along the side of studio and everyone loves to talk tomatoes and gardening.

Prairie Gardens Market Gardens will be offering free wagon rides and nature walks at our U-pick Strawberry and Vegetable Garden Site, located 1 km north of Prairie Gardens. Come find out what grows here, how we farmers live with the land, and what's in season in August at our farm's veggie and berry patch. From 10 am - 4pm, come for hourly guided foraging walks in the Payhonin Forest to meet our storyteller, Bill Bertschy at the TIPI for drumming and signing.

August is a time of abundance at the farm -

you'll find row upon row of beautiful and affordable farm grown vegetables which you can U-pick for by the bucket (Costs vary by crop). Dig your own potatoes, harvest your own mixed basket of veggies, or you may even find some u-pick strawberries or raspberries if you come early in the day! While you are at the farm, explore the Payhonin National Healing Forest on our lands, in Treaty Six Territory. "We are all Related" is so evident when you go for a walk along the shady forest trails. You'll escape into nature, and feel the earth under your feet. The breeze brings the fragrance of the forest to you as the leaves at the tops of the trees gently whisper. You feel like you are a million miles away from the concrete jungle as you learn about the "Rooted Nation" in the forest, along with the wild ones who share their forest with us; you can visit the sweet grass patch, learn how to identify its' heavenly scent and the protocols of harvesting and braiding it; and you'll enjoy a sample of sweet grass tea with Bill. You'll learn about the Indigenous ways of knowing and the seven grandfather teachings through storytelling and land-based hands on activities with songs and drumming with the help of an indigenous storyteller at the tipi in the forest. You can support the farm and our indigenous storytellers by purchasing vegetables or leaving a donation for the Rock Soup Kitchen, and Indigenous led food security project.

The Priddis & Millarville Fair is unique in Canada as the longest-running, community-supported, old-time country Fair.

Located at the Millarville Racetrack.

The Fair is the place to come to learn about Alberta's agricultural heritage. Established in 1907, the Fair offers friendly competition in a variety of bench exhibits, equestrian events, livestock shows for beef cattle, sheep and dairy goats.  The Millarville Racetrack is also home of the Millarville Farmers' Market that runs in conjuction with the Fair.  The Farmer's Market, normally a Saturday only event, runs all weekend for Fair weekend only. Come to the Garden to see exhibits from the wild world around us - bats, hummingbirds and the ever popular Poop Identification Station where you can test your knowledge of scat and tracks of wild animals. The Barns have Goats, Sheep, Llamas and Alpacas on display and in competition. The Poultry classes can be seen in the Quonset. The bench exhibits that have been judged for ribbons, and prizes are in the Arena. You can view the work of local artisans, gardeners, photographers, cooks & bakers, and woodworkers. Artistic pasture art, aka licked salt blocks and honey that have been judged, are also on view.  Don't miss a visit with the live Birds of Prey in the Arena. We have antique engines and tractors, and Model As and Model Ts, that span the generations. Horse riding competitions include light horse English, Western, and Gymkhana. Contests include pie and watermelon eating, rooster crowing, tractor pulls, a farm chore relay and hale bale tossing...

• Face painting, visiting the honey bees, watching stock dog demonstrations, or visiting Food Trucks. You can also paint a rock, decorate a cookie and visit the Sheep Creek Weavers, who are hosting a fleece to shawl competition, demos and interactive activities.
• The Millarville Historical Society has many photos and wonderful historical collections on display.

Since 2019, we have been Canada's only dedicated fibre farm to be certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World. With our flock of endangered heritage breed Border Leicesters - the breed was featured in the movie "Babe" - and a small troop of alpacas, we use our flerd to carefully manage the land we steward, including eight hectares of native prairie, a small outpost in a critically-endangered prairie ecosystem. We believe in building community and have worked extensively with many partners, including the University of Calgary, the Alberta University of the Arts, Emily Carr University of Art + Design as well as our amazing conservation partners like MultiSAR and Cows and Fish as well as other community members (we call them our fibre friends) like our amazingly supportive handspinners and weavers, artists, makers and more. We prioritize climate resilience and rare breed conservation as we work hard to raise our heritage breed sheep in an environment where they will not only thrive, but they'll also become a critical part of building healthy soil, water and carbon cycles. As much as we can be, we are an inclusive environment and welcome guests from every walk of life. For those of our guests who may require a quiet Sensory Space, we are pleased to provide an opportunity to ground yourself, catch your breath and re-establish your equilibrium. • All day there will be regular tours for the homestead-curious! Take a tour of our small-scale regenerative farm as Tara walks you through a "day in the life" for our resident pastoralists! Free.
• At NOON - Join shepherd and Livestock Guardian Dog breeder Jacquie Turuk from Shars and Sheep and Honeybees as she answers questions and teaches our guests about our incredible dogs, Brian and Clio, and others like them. For millennia, humans have worked with these incredible breeds to safely raise livestock in environments like our very own grasslands. Some of the things you may discover - how long have humans been working with dogs on open rangelands? What do these dogs do? How are guardian dogs different from pet dogs? Should guardian breeds be pets? Free.
• Dr. Steven Tannas, our very own grasslands and conservation expert, will be guiding two different Grassland Walking Tours on Saturday at 10:30AM and again at 1:30PM.  Get your hands dirty at as we explore the ecology of native prairie grasslands and some straight talk about what it takes to actually restore native grasslands once they've been altered. Fingers crossed Dr. Tannas' father will join us - Clare Tannas is one of the pioneers in this important work and has stories to tell! Wear good boots and be prepared to walk. Tour duration is 45 minutes. Free.
• From 10:15AM to 11AM, we are so excited to welcome artist Geneva Haley, AKA Pasture Land (be sure to check her out on Instagram) for our first-ever Botanical Drawing Workshop. Geneva will take our guests out to a rare patch of native grassland and use drawing as a tool for slowing down and noticing our surroundings more carefully, learning how both artists and scientists use observation to better understand what they're looking at. You'll learn to see the prairie in a whole new way. Absolutely no previous drawing experience is necessary! Participants will be introduced to some botanical drawing techniques that help translate observation onto the page. Everyone will leave with observation exercises they can continue using long after the workshop, whether on a farm, in their backyard, or on a lunch break in the city. Registration required, cost $35/each, all supplies provided. Ages 12 and up, walking shoes and comfort on uneven terrain required.

• All day, join the talented artists from the Heritage Weavers and Spinners Guild as we host a Spin-In and Demonstration!! You can try your hand at a drop spindle, or, for those of you who are spinners yourselves, BYOW and join the circle! All textile artists - knitters, weavers, spinners, crocheters, embroidery artists or otherwise, bring your latest work-in-progress, a chair (or blanket) and pull up your own patch. Everyone is welcome to join us. Free.
• 11AM and 2PM, come along with Wildlife Biologist Brook Sagan, our original auditor for MultiSAR (Multiple Species at Risk) and the Prairie Conservation Forum will be here to guide guests through an engaging and super-fun tour that will introduce you to some of the endangered plants and animals of the grasslands! You'll need your nose, your eyes, your ears and some good walking shoes! Tours at 11AM and 2PM. Free and great for kids!
• Sit down for a Q&A with our alpaca mentors, Barry and Shirley Charters and let's talk about all things alpaca. As one of the earliest farms to bring alpacas to Alberta almost 30 years ago, Barry and Shirley have a lot of stories to tell and had to learn a lot of important lessons the hard way. Now with retirement (or what passes for it among farmers) coming on fast, Barry and Shirley spend some time talking about things like mentorship and how relationships and community shape success. Free.
• 10:15AM - 11AM Geneva Haley will be leading her second Botanical Drawing Workshop out into our native prairie landscape on Sunday morning. Bring comfy shoes, eyeballs and the ability to sit quietly and be led through a range of exercises which will help you see the grasslands in a whole new way. We'll practice paying closer, more unbiased attention; asking better questions; and making sense of details we might otherwise walk right past. All supplies are provided, workshop is approximately 45 minutes long. Registration required, cost $35/per person. Ages 12 and up.
• Homestead tours with Tara - wanna hear about the time I was charged by a grizzly bear? True story. Or maybe you'd like to know how things work day-to-day and get to know some of the unique personalities that populate our fields and pastures. Whether your interest is horses, sheep or alpacas - even Jimmy the Rooster is pretty darned interesting when he wants to be - I'm happy to show you around and answer questions! Tours happen pretty much on demand and all day long. Free.

Quiet Hills Ranch is a family run beef cow and calf farm, which grows a lot of hay.

We are a commercial cow calf operation and wellness centre.

Rocking T Farms is a first generation regenerative family farm.

We rotationally graze pigs, cows, goats, and sheep in a closed loop system, where each animal contributes to the forage quality for the next one. Cover crops play a central role in not only regenerating our soils, increasing bio diversity, but are also vital to increase animal health, nutrient density of our meats and ultimately human health. We do like to joke that everybody on this farm is a little bit dense. Our closed loop system goes further than just the nutrient density of our meat produced on farm. The manure produced by our animals in the winter ends up in a highly active compost pile that then serves as the basis for our no-till garden and produces nutrient dense vegetables, herbs and teas. Join us for a walk around the farm, kick your shoes off if you want to and enjoy a low-stress day out and about. Have questions about folliar applications, soil health, the soil or human micro-biome? We are more than happy to talk about it all day long! There will be coffee to sustain you and on your way out, don't forget to grab some eggs and veggies, local honey and throw your name on a list for our next available pasture raised meats.

What was once home to a grain and cattle farm has now been transformed into a unique country get away with many different things to see, do, and experience.

Come stay at the campground nestled in the trees beside a spring-fed pond, check out the Farm Yard Mini-Golf course, fish for fresh trout (catch and release), pick berries, or order fresh pie, jam, and other treats from Nana’s Kitchen.

Spend time with real working sled dogs and experience a part of Canada that even many people here no longer truly know.

At Rocky Wolf Ranch, visitors will be introduced to our sled dogs, with a particular focus on the Canadian Eskimo Dog — a rare, original Canadian breed of significant cultural and historical importance. These dogs have shaped life in the North over generations and were essential for transportation, hunting, and survival under extreme conditions. Today, they are largely unknown even within Canada and, with only around 400 animals worldwide, are among the most endangered sled dog breeds. During the visit, guests will learn about the history, breeding, training, and daily work of these dogs. They will experience how a sled dog team functions, how the dogs communicate with each other, and what fundamentally sets them apart from typical companion animals. In a guided and safe environment, visitors will have the opportunity to observe the dogs up close and interact with them. This provides insight into behaviour, pack dynamics, and the unique relationship between humans and working dogs.

During your visit, you can:

• Meet our friendly team of working sled dogs, including the rare Canadian Eskimo Dog.
• Discover the history, cultural significance, and conservation of one of the world's rarest and most endangered dog breeds.
• Learn how we care for more than 30 working sled dogs throughout the year.
• Join one of our guided kennel tours, offered every hour (10:00, 11:00, 12:00 etc.) and lasting approximately 30 minutes. During these tours, you'll learn about the dogs, their history, training, equipment, and daily life as a working team. This schedule ensures that every visitor has the opportunity to take part in a guided introduction, while questions are always welcome throughout the day.
• Meet our puppies (if available) and learn about responsible breeding and preservation.
• Ask questions and speak directly with the people who live and work with the dogs every day.
• Coffee, bottled water, and cookies are available for a small fee. Our dogs have already submitted their wish list – including extra cozy blankets for our seniors, new toys for the puppies, and future improvements around the kennel.

This experience is intentionally calm and authentic. It is not about entertainment, but about genuine understanding — of the dogs, their history, and their future.

Meet your Hosts

Kilyan has been involved in sled dog racing and working sled dogs for nearly 30 years. A multiple European Champion and World Championship bronze medallist, he has dedicated much of his life to the sport and the preservation of northern working dogs.

In addition to competing internationally, Kilyan serves as a Race Marshal for the FISTC, supporting sled dog races around the world, and as Sled Dog Racing Coordinator for the Canadian Eskimo Dog Club, where he is actively involved in promoting and preserving this remarkable breed.

With decades of hands-on experience in breeding, training, and working with sled dogs, he enjoys sharing his knowledge and giving visitors an authentic insight into life with a professional sled dog team.

Anna is a professionally trained horse trainer and riding instructor from Germany with more than 25 years of experience working with horses and animals. She also competed successfully in sled dog racing with Alaskan Malamutes, earning a bronze medal at the European Championships.

Her passion for working dogs, animal welfare, and conservation eventually led to the creation of Rocky Wolf Ranch.

She is committed to educating visitors about the Canadian Eskimo Dog, its history, behaviour, and importance as one of Canada's oldest and rarest native dog breeds. Through Rocky Wolf Ranch, she hopes to inspire greater appreciation and support for the preservation of this extraordinary breed.

Please do not bring dogs or other pets. Even the friendliest visitor dogs can cause unnecessary stress for our working sled dogs, and the experience can also be overwhelming for visiting dogs.

If you are travelling with your dog and, due to the summer temperatures, it is not safe to leave them in your vehicle, please speak with us when you arrive. While we do not have shaded parking, we may be able to provide a secure kennel for your dog during your visit, subject to availability.

Our vision is to bring our community and visitors together to learn about local agriculture and where our food comes from.  All products at this market are locally grown and greatly cared for.

We will have tables set up where you are able to taste test, grind wheat into flour,  learn about our products and how they are grown, as well as how our farmers raise their animals.  Listen to some farming stories and adventures. The plan is to bring in a few 4-H members along with their showcase projects such as riding demonstrations, canine projects and other skills.   Come and enjoy watching our hard working and dedicated students  show their skills. We will have 2 vendors that will be BBQing either Chicken Burger (locally grown chicken) and Beef Burgers (locally grown Beef) for purchase.   So please if you would love try some locally grown products please bring some cash along and enjoy our locally grown products.

We are a 40,000sq ft greenhouse located east of Carstairs, Alberta. We grow two different types of cucumbers, eight types of tomatoes, hot peppers, bell peppers, butter lettuce, and kale. We also grow 12 acres of field vegetables.

What sets us apart from other greenhouse and garden growers is that we grow all our vegetables WITHOUT the use of synthetic pesticides. Our kids can walk into the greenhouse and eat fresh veggies right off the vine.

-from carrots and cucumbers to peas and even our own strawberries. As part of Alberta Open Farm Days, we welcome visitors to experience firsthand how food is grown from seed to harvest. Guests will learn about every step of the process, including sourcing seeds, planting, watering, crop care, and harvesting, as well as the equipment and systems we use on our farm. Visitors will also have the opportunity to tour our facility where we dehydrate our own apple chips, learning how the fruit is brought from our farm in the Okanagan and transformed into a finished product. Our goal is to help people better understand what they are eating, what goes into their bodies, and the care behind every product we grow. The Spirit Hills winery tours and tastings are family friendly, fun and educational. The entire tour is indoors and led by one of our star team members. You will learn about: Rocky Mountain Foothills flowers, bees and wine production. Throughout the tour you will get to sample a variety of delicious flower wines and have a chance to purchase some. As a team, we personally like to take the time to share with you the story of our flowers, bees and wines so that next time when you have a sip of our flower wines you can taste the love, care and dedication that went into crafting the delicate flavours and aromas. After the tour you can enjoy a glass of wine or wine cocktail and enjoy our amazing view of the foothills! Fire roasted pizza's will be available for purchase as well. When the Alberta Wheat Pool company announced the demolition of the Grain Elevator in 1995, the Society stepped in, purchasing the 1958 Grain Elevator for $1, thereby preserving it as a lasting legacy of the Agricultural history of the area. Today it is a Provincial Historic Resource and a functioning museum, visited by several thousand visitors from all over.

The St. Paul Agricultural Society has been bringing local agriculture, history, and people together for over 110 years.

  Come take a stroll through patches of sunflowers and wildflowers or enjoy a walk through the pumpkins. Sunflower & Swallow is a small place people come during the summer to have their photos taken or pick a bouquet of flowers.

You will be able to bring your children and take a look at small farm animals and walk through the flowers. We will have crafts for kids, a park for them to play at and a scavenger hunt to participate in.

• We will have u-pick flowers for sale and a local florist on site to help you arrange them.
• Depending on crops we should also have some produce for sale as well.
• We provide all the tools you will need to pick flowers so just bring yourself.

For 28 years we have enjoyed these amazing animas, alpacas are not pets, they are simply beautiful animals that are enjoyed from a distance. When visiting the farm you will see alpaca mom's (dam's) alpaca dad's (sire's) and their beautiful babies (cria). They might be racing around the pen or enjoying an afternoon nap, regardless you will love them Sunnyhill like's to keep their alpacas calm and stress free, visitors are not allowed in the pen. **No dogs allowed (alpacas are terrified of strange dog's)** Alpaca has the perfect fleece for making cozy yarn, yes you read right, alpaca yarn is super soft naturally and hypoallergenic. Twisted Sisters Mill takes the annual shearing from Sunnyhill and produces the yarn right here on the farm. 100% local natural product.

Renee Henry co-owner of the Twisted Sisters, will provide mill tours.

Welcome to the Cherry Farm!

The Cherry Farm is home to 600+ cherry trees, 150 haskaps, 60 apple trees, 14 highbush cranberries, and choke cherries; all available for u-pick at different times throughout the summer and fall. Some cherry varieties will be ready to pick at Open Farm Days. Have you ever picked a cherry off the tree? There is nothing quite like it. Our trees are all under 7 ft tall, so even toddlers can experience the joy of picking fruit. There will be some great photo opportunities on your visit.

Throughout the Open Farm Days weekend you may experience orchard tours, pruning demonstrations, u-pick and of course some great cherry eats-

Did you know that we have small batch ice cream made using the fruit from our orchard? You will want to make sure to try it while you are there! There are six flavors to choose from including Cherry Almond, Cherry Cheesecake, Vanilla Cherry, Black Forest and Haskap, and rhubarb crisp.

We will have pulled pork or on a bun for purchase.

 

The Farm on Dead Horse Flats & Peace River Petals

Welcome to The Farm on Dead Horse Flats. We are Mike & Shi, 1st generation farmers who moved from the West Coast in the spring of 2022. We are located between Dawson Creek BC and Spirit River AB, in the heart of Saddle Hills County.

Keeping with the 2026 theme of ‘Rangelands and Pastoralists’ we will focus on the regeneration of our once neglected pasture. We replanted the field in 2025 with 20 different varieties of grasses and legumes. Last year, we partnered with ALUS to restore local habitat bring back wildlife diversity (Read more about ALUS below). By increasing the biodiversity, it helps the ecosystem become more balanced and increases resilience in an ever changing climate.

The Farm on Dead Horse Flats uses only regenerative practices, focusing on the soil health first and foremost. We are low-till, understanding that tilling is sometimes inevitable and if done strategically, beneficial. We raise cattle, pigs and chickens as well as operate a small-scale flower farm, market garden, and UPICK. This year, we added some beehives to the lineup.

We manage our land without the use of any pesticides or herbicides. Our gardens are managed using beneficial insects and feeding the natural biology of the soil through intentional cover-cropping and animal inputs. We focus primarily on raising heritage breeds of pigs and cattle, as they are more suitable to our unforgiving climate and harsh winters. Grass-fed and pasture-raised, these animals are given the best possible life before their one inevitable bad day.

At The Farm on Dead Horse Flats, we are passionate about access to local food. When food is shipped across the globe, before it has reached its peak, you lose valuable nutrients in the process. The difference between a store bought, and locally grown strawberry is palatable, don’t you agree?

But don’t take my word for it - come out and see it for yourself!

Guided tours at 12, 2 & 4 PM. This is a great option if you wish to get up close and personal with the animals.

Maps are available for self-led walks if you prefer.

This is our first year of AMP grazing our cattle. They will be intensively moved through smaller, temporary paddocks daily, which mimics the grazing patterns of the bison across the prairies.

We have Cows, old and new, a pig named George, Chickens and their Rooster and our newest addition - beehives!

Note: we are a working farm and there is uneven ground and friendly farm dogs

VINTAGE TRUCKS & MACHINES

We not only have the vintage farm machinery, we actually use it!

Our workhorse of a ‘Deutz’ tractor was pulled out of a field after 20 years. A little TLC and it is our most reliable machine.

We have two 50’s era Chevy grain trucks. (They always make us nostalgic for bench seats) and a swather that would make grandpa proud.

Bonus points if you can spot a horse-drawn manure spreader

FLOWER GARDEN & UPICK

The blooms will be plentiful and will surely be a beautiful sight when you visit. Take a wander through the flowers, selecting your favourite to come home with you - a special reminder of a wonderful day.

Don’t be surprised when you see our honeybees in the garden. They are collecting pollen for the hives (join a tour, or take a map and a walk to observe them in action)

• We also have a huge 2400sq ft Scandinavian Antique store open everyday of the week.
• Kids very much welcome as they can meet the many adorable animals on the farm such as herding dogs, cats, horses, cattle, pigs, chickens, and ducks!

The Good Garlic Company is a family-owned garlic farm located in Lamont County, Alberta.

The Little Market Farm lives up to its name. Our small 4 acre farm produces a large variety of vegetables in a small footprint. We grow in soil, without the use of synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Our produce is nutrient dense and delicious.  Come and learn how this is done.

 Your day at our farm will include a informative tour of our farm and greenhouse, farm store, local vendor market, cheeky chickens and playful ducks.

Stay for one of our tours. There will be a small group of local vendors selling their products. Shop our farm store and save yourself a trip to the grocery store. Grab a snack, take a seat and enjoy the view.  A safe space to explore and some activities will be available for the kids. While your here visit the World Famous Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington or Kirk's Alpaca Farm nearby. From the abundant trees and wildlife to our flower field and vintage barn, we think you will love it here as much as we do. We specialize in growing medicinal herbs and cut flowers. Throughout the weekend we will be hosting talks about the traditional uses of some of the herbs we grow, and will be demonstrating how we distill essential oils and hydrosols. Hydrosols will be available for purchase, as well as fresh and dried herbs. Our u-pick will be closed but we will have a bouquet bar where you can select flowers and create your own bouquet to take home. This year we will be joined by the Agroforestry and Woodlot Extension Society (AWES) who will host talks about agroforestry, shelter belts and tree care. They will also have information for landowners on grants available for tree planting projects. We will be open for visitors on both August 15 & August 16, from 10 am to 4 pm each day. Times for talks and presentations will be confirmed shortly - please check back. Feel free to bring a picnic lunch, wander around the farm, and visit with the chickens. We can't wait to see you and welcome you to our farm!

  Family-run and built on equal parts horsepower and elbow grease, Toews & Bale turns good prairie grass into great hay. From alfalfa, Timothy, orchard grass mixes to custom-mixed grains, we bale it, stack it, and ship it near and far (yes, even as far as Florida).

They’ll be chatting about their incredible malting process and how they transform Alberta-grown barley into the high-quality malt that’s a key ingredient in our brewing. At Troubled Monk, we’ve always believed that great beer starts in the field. From grain to glass, we’re connected to the land and the hardworking farmers who make what we do possible. Twa Dugs Farm is a small family garlic farm located near Warburg, Alberta,

Where we grow three varieties of hardneck garlic, selling it and our homemade garlic products, at local markets and in our on-site farm store gift shop. We also create metal art and wood craft which is on display and for sale in our farm shop and sometimes we provide small craft classes there. For Open Farm Days on Saturday only, we are offering short farm tours at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, where we will show you around our garlic patches, describe how we got started growing and selling our garlic 10 years ago, and share any tips we have to grow great garlic. We are also happy to answer any questions if we can, and finishing up with a look around our farm gift shoppe. Please bear in mind, we have a long single track driveway through trees. Not only are we a preserve company, we also have a menu that you can enjoy locally produced food utilizing our preserves.  We use local ingredients and support our local farmers and producers.

Pioneer Outpost

Attention Fernie and Crowsnest bound travelers! Spice up your road trip and make the Pioneer Outpost a pit stop on your next drive down the Cowboy Trail. Located on the U Lazy U ranch 3km south of Chain Lakes Provincial Park, the Outpost is a perfect place to stretch your legs, take in some scenery and load up on Alberta's finest meats. Offerings will include the full line of Pioneer products, a selection of locally sourced pantry items and even firewood for your weekend adventure. Pasture raised beef is raised on our property. Our sons have a butchery and charcuterie business and we sell their product here.

We have 320 acres. We will have horse in a corral for people to visit. We will have some games for kids

 

Our family grows fresh local potatoes on our farm. Come and learn about how we grow and prepare potatoes for sale at farmers' markets.

You will get a chance to head out to the field and pick your own potatoes fresh from the ground. (We will also have freshly washed and bagged potatoes available if you don't want to get your hands dirty) Come share our enthusiasm for fresh local produce!

Come, See and Learn where your milk is coming from !

Come and see our wonderful dairy cows ! We are a local family run dairy farm with 140 milking cows. Located 25 Km West of Innisfail on Highway 54. Started the dairy in 2001.  Our cows live in a free stall barn. And we milk our cows in a 2 x 12 parallel milk parlor. We are raising our baby heifer calves as well.

• To give you an inside look of the dairy operation, we are giving tours of our dairy.

• There will be fun games and activities for kids and you can try to milk Daisy our milk cow too !

Taste the dairy with a glass of milk and a piece of cheese. And also, have a visit at The Dairy Saloon, Chapman's Ice cream, home made Apple Pie and Sylvan Star cheese will be available. Our facilities are wheel chair accessible as well. Hope to see you !

Experience a hands-on adventure with our friendly farm animals!

Meet and interact with Tibetan yaks, emus, alpacas, llamas, donkeys, goats and more!

Enjoy feeding and petting these delightful creatures while discovering fascinating facts about animals farmed throughout Alberta. Your farm visit is entirely self-guided, allowing you to explore at your own pace and create your own unique experience. During your self-guided visit, you'll interact with most animals from the gate, but you can enjoy a more up-close experience with the donkeys and goats. There will be water and popsicles for sale- cash only and FREE quad pulled hay ride every hour.

JOIN WHITE TREASURE FARM AND THE HENDERSON’S FOR OPEN FARM DAYS 

White Treasure Farm: A farm that raises 2 breeds of Goats: Angora for fiber production and LaManchas dairy & meat we grow Native Plants and Dahlias, Centennial Rocket Tomatoes

ACTIVITIES:

• An information session with each group visiting the pen. Topic raising goats, kidding out. Shearing
• Learn about hoof trimming, diet, carding & spinning raw mohair, handwashing mohair, steps from fleece to garments, animal to commercial Sale of raw Mohair
• Question & Answer period
• Sales Table for the purchase of socks, hides, raw mohair cleaned but not washed for Crafters, table for plants!

Farm will be open on both days from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm..

Schedule: Visitors will be asked to sign in on arrival.

• Visitors will then be taken to Pen #1 where the selected group are penned to take part in the information Session.
• There will be a host to then take you out the rest of the herd’
• You will complete the tour with washing demo and carding and spinning.

Visitors will then have an opportunity to visit the sales table. Accommodations Seating areas, picnic table. Bathroom avail in farm house. No public toilet. 2 hand washing stations 1 at viewing pen 1 by the demo table where the washing of mohair takes place. What does this visit mean to someone who has not stepped on to a farm before? A completely different life style then what they have in the city! Things you will learn:

• Much of the meat comes from the herd.
• Care of animals is a daily priority
• Certain procedures are seasonal shearing for example is done the first week in March and Labor day weekend.
• Kidding out takes place from Mid Feb To early April

It is a wonderful life style and a great place to raise children and at the other end of the spectrum to spend Ones retirement days. * Please no dogs*

Wild Country Gardens has become a destination farm, made up of not only fruit and vegetables, but a beautiful spot to just relax and enjoy the country atmosphere.

We are open both Saturday and Sunday! Can’t wait to see you. Nestled in a beautiful forested area near Wildwood, Alberta just off of Yellowhead Highway. Our orchard consists of over 3000 fruit trees and bushes, all planted by us over the last 20 years. Our Gardens offer the most unique surroundings, where you can spend hours relaxing and enjoying the country side. The garden have been switched over to No-till gardening which is a method of growing plants without disturbing the soil, using layering of organic matter to improve fertility and maintain soil health. This is only our second year of using this method and we are please with the results so far.  Our garden has a large variety of vegetables, mints and herbs which we use for making our products carried in our On Farm Store and Local Shops.

We will be offering guided tours of our farm explaining our farming practices and what is working for us. The tour can take as long as 30 minutes and up to 1 hour depending on the group.

You’ll have the opportunity to shop in Wild Country Gardens Farm Store which is filled with Alberta made products all made by us.   Products include our famous Freeze-Dried Fruit Smoothie Mixes, Freeze Dried Fruit snacks, Candy, Ice-cream Herbs and vegetables. Our shelves are also filled with our jams, jellies and syrups made with the fruit we produce on our farm. We use recipes for our pickles and sauerkraut that have been passed down for several generations and we offer our Pepper Jellies, Salsas and Antipasto made with our recipes. We carry a full selection of Herbal and Mint Teas all forged and grown by us. Our Local Made Soaps and Balms are all stocked up and new this year is our Tallow Soap Products which are in my opinion amazing. Our Puschens are one of a kind. Made and designed by Paulette, they are crocheted slippers with leather soles lined with sheepskin and accented with deer antler buttons. A $2 donation per meal sold will be donated to our local Women’s Shelter by Wild Country Gardens and The Poppy Grill and Deli and Catering both.  Look for our Donation Box Donation if you choose to donate.

The Windy Rafters Barn farm was homesteaded in 1905 and has the 6th generation on it now.

Presently operated as mixed farming with a few cattle. Our favorite focus is on what life was like when the area was homesteaded in 1905. Activities that highlight this focus are: TOURS: 1910 Work horse barn, 1905 one room school, replica 1905 homestead cabin, weaving shed, Hay wagon tour of the area and history.

Y Knot Farm will be offering a full 2-day family friendly farm experience! We will be providing tours of the orchard, garden, sawmill, and beekeeping operation! After your tour(s) sit and enjoy the live music or a beverage at Bigfoot Hotel. An amazing lunch will be made from farm ingredients and will be available for purchase while supplies last! We have hand selected vendors offering unique items for purchase including:

• Rooted Holistic offering farm strawberry jam, salves, colloidal silver, and whole wheat bread.
• Sage & Timber offering home baked goods, soaps, and crocheted creations.
• Essem Ceramics offering handmade pottery items.
• Shana James Photography providing mini photography sessions.

We will be running rain or shine Saturday and Sunday from 10-5 so dress accordingly and bring a lawn chair (and maybe umbrella) to sit and enjoy the live music and all the farm fun. We kindly ask that you please leave your pets home. **Two other neighbouring farms are also participating in the event so be sure to plan a day of it and also visit Good Food Farms and Out to Lunch Farmstead**
