The Eastern Irrigation District invites you to explore the vital role water plays in southern Alberta agriculture with exclusive guided tours of the historic Bassano Dam.

Tours run at 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. sharp each day.

Spots are limited. Call the EID Office at 403-362-1400 to reserve your place. Deadline to register is Wednesday, August 12 at 5:00 P.M.

Why Water Matters
Constructed more than 110 years ago, the Bassano Dam – owned and operated by the EID – remains a vital part of Alberta’s irrigation infrastructure. This tour will explore how water is diverted from the Bow River to supply agriculture throughout the Eastern Irrigation District, helping transform southern Alberta’s prairie landscape into productive farmland.

• Cross the main spillway structure to view gates, hoists, and the friction wall up close

• Tour our Emergency Spillway adjacent to the Bassano Dam

Accessibility Notice
Due to the nature of the facility, the tour is not suitable for strollers, wheelchairs, or persons with limited mobility. It includes a significant amount of walking, over six flights of stairs, and steep walkways.

• Directions:

  From the town of Bassano proceed south on 11th Street (graveled) following the road to the right (west) where it becomes TWP Road 21-2. Continue west for 1.6 kilometers and turn left (south) onto RR 18-5. Proceed south approximately 3.2 kilometers (crossing the bridge over the canal). At the top of the hill continue straight through the intersection. Continue on this main road as it turns to the right (west) all the way to the Bassano Dam parking lot.
