Experience Alberta Presents: A Glimpse of Life on the Farm

Welcome to Chicks N Chaps!

Join us on Sunday, August 16th  from 11 am to 3:30 pm at our charming mixed farm, just 35 minutes east of Edmonton in Strathcona County. Bring a picnic lunch, find a scenic spot to share with friends, and try your hand at a game of bunnock, a unique game with ties to the equine world! Our farm is only a 12-minute drive to Elk Island Park’s west gate so why not drop in at the farm.

Learn from the Experts 

Our focus this year is to share information with you.  Frank will share his passion for apples with you   He planted his apple orchard, Addicted to Apples, over the past several years and has over 10 varieties of apples   What is the difference?  What hurdles did he encounter on his journey? Presentation begins at 11:30.

We are thrilled to host Bryanna and a portion of her flower farm BarOA Farms on our site. Flower farms are blooming everywhere but it takes more than pretty blooms to operate a flower farm.  Hear from Bryanna about her journey into the business and how she has transitioned her original dream into what Bar OA is today.  Bryanna will present at 12:30.

Brock will highlight what it has been like on his journey to becoming a grain farmer – starting with nothing but a passion. This passion to share what a farmer goes through led to Akers Acres program – farming vicariously through Farmer Brock.  The  crop this year is wheat. Why did he choose the crop, and seeds he did and what goes does it take to grow and harvest the crop so you can have flour for your bread and baking?  Presentation begins at 1:30 .

Speaking of baking…did you know the dream of Edmonton’s Fifendekel Pie Shop Cafes, is connected to the farm?  Hear the Fife story.  You may even leave with a new recipe idea. Presentation begins at 2:30.

There will be an opportunity to try your hand at some unique creations (nominal fees apply) and leave the farm with more than just information.

Remember to bring your camera and if you like to paint it will be the perfect time for Plein air.
