Farm Type: Heritage Homestead and gardens

Region

Town

Nanton

The Coutts Centre for Western Canadian Heritage is a quarter section of land that includes the original homestead, extensive gardens and restored outbuildings. Launched in June 2011 thanks to a generous gift from the late Dr. Jim Coutts, the Centre preserves and celebrates the diverse heritage that is central to the spirit of the west, honouring both its namesake and the land he admired. Also features prairie gardens, picnic areas, and is a favourite wedding venue featuring a bandstand for local musicians. Located 10 minutes from Nanton and is managed by the University of Lethbridge.

Join us for History/Garden talks by Coutts Centre staff John Stoll and Kara Matthews highlighting the legacy of Jim Coutts and how his gardens, ideas, and homestead history are maintained, preserved and are thriving. The history is documented in the binders that are carefully protected in the archives of the Coutts Centre. The binders will be on display during Open Farm Day. Check out how research and information was collected before the days of google!
