Come Join 5S Farms for our second Open Farm Days On Saturday August 16th

This is a great chance to get up close to some of our livestock, and a full in depth view of the Butchershop. This is where we process all the animals on site for a full beginning to end, Farm to Table experience for our customers. 5S Farms is a fully licensed Butchershop and retail location. We will being doing some meat processing Demo's through the day and Hosting a BBQ for lunch.

Our farm will be open to visitors on Saturday, August 16th  2025 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for free tours and demonstrations:

EVENT ACTIVITES

• BBQ, Homemade Burgers as well as Hotdogs & Taco in a bag 11am-3pm (Cash and Card accepted)
• Retail store open from 9am-5pm (We offer Steaks, Burgers, Jerky, Sausages, Bacon, Flour, jams, Tallow lotions, soaps and much more)
• 1/2 Pig cutting demo. learn how to breakdown a 1/2 pig from whole carcass into edible steaks and pork chops.
• Free Glitter tattoos 10am-4pm

Pig Cutting demo will be approximately 90 minute session. Will demonstrate how to break down a half of a pig into the cuts you would see at your local grocery store and some cuts most major retail chains do not offer. Will give a guided breakdown of the processes, the tools used and regulations that govern our butchershop as well as the knowledge so that the consumer can not only make smarter choices on what they eat, but what best suits their families. All visitors will be able to tour the butchershop during these sessions and spend as little or as much time as they like, whether its just watching or asking questions.  

ALCLA Native Plants is a native plant nursery founded in 1992 and operating in Carstairs since 2023.

We offer genetically diverse, sustainably sourced native plants and seeds—featuring over 200 species of wildflowers, grasses, and shrubs native to Alberta, on Treaty 7 Territory. We also provide custom growing and educational services.

Native plants are climate-adapted, drought-tolerant once established, and essential for supporting pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. They’re also stunningly beautiful—and many have edible and medicinal properties.

All of our plants and seeds are free of chemical pesticides.

ARAS Community Growing Patch

It is a vibrant community garden space where people come together to grow vegetables, fruits, and flowers while learning from one another through weekly workshops and hands-on experiences. Regular programs include Saturday learning sessions and our Lil Wigglers “mom and me” garden group on Wednesdays.

During Alberta Open Farm Days, we’ll offer:

• U-dig vegetables for sale (including beets and more)

• Guided tours of our seasonal projects like the lasagna garden, potatoes in straw, and Three Sisters planting

• Local vendors, community demos, and

• The Strathcona County Bookmobile, with family-friendly activities

It’s a welcoming, interactive day for all ages — come see what we’ve been growing together!  

We are excited to be participating again this year!

We welcome you all to our homestead, where we're operating a CSA style market garden.

We will be running free tours of our property hourly.

Again this year we will have the delicious sourdough creations from Three Sisters! We are excited to have our new cows for you to meet!

• You will also meet out adorable Nigerian Dwarf goats, piglets, lambs and turkeys!
• You will also get a tour of our gardens and learn about our no spray, low till systems.
• We will have a selection of in season veggies for sale. Our garlic will be fresh out of the ground as well!
• You will have the opportunity to purchase some feed. So you can go in to feed and play with the goats and lambs.

Cash works best however we have square as well for debit/credit. Please leave your four legged friends at home.  We do have farm dogs and they don't like competition for attention. We have electric fencing, assume all fencing is live and stay with the tour please.

We will focus on this year’s theme: Water.

This 45-minute wagon tour is perfect for anyone looking to unwind, connect or reconnect with how food is produced on our farm, and get to know us.

You will discover how important water is on our farm. How and why our solar pumping system is used to water our cattle from a well.  Also, what the daily water needs are for cattle.  You will get to meet our cows with their babies, watch them graze, and interact with each other. Get ready to soak up the sunshine, breathe in the fresh air, and have a ride through our pastures with a bonus ride by the pumpkin patch opening September weekends. When you know where your food comes from, the land that the cattle graze, the crisp prairie air that they breathe in, the ranchers that raise them since birth…Our beef is raised with love and care. Remember to bring a cooler, we will have our angus beef available for purchase.

Come take a stroll through our mixed farm near Sylvan Lake—home to friendly horses, curious donkeys, and a few other furry companions.

We run a mixed farm with horses, donkeys, and a few other furry friends near Sylvan Lake. Our freeze-dried shop specializes in preserving locally grown fruit and vegetables, turning seasonal harvests into delicious, shelf-stable snacks and ingredients you can enjoy anytime. While you're here,  we'll be teaching about the process of freeze drying food, enjoy petting the animals and sampling some of our delicious freeze-dried fruits and veggies, made with love from locally grown produce.

Grow North Gardens is a garden center and cut flower farm in Fairview.

We grow, harvest and arrange beautiful seasonal cut flowers in our flower field to fill bouquets from June to October. During Alberta Open Farm Days we will be doing tours of our flower field with an overview of great Alberta cutting garden plants including the annuals, perennials and shrubs that form the backbone of our bouquets, we will talk all things plant health and IPM programs.  

At Harmonic Hills, we offer immersive, land-based education rooted in permaculture, herbalism, and regenerative living.

Our Open Farm Days programming will include:

• Guided Plant Walks and Forest Bathing through the aspen parkland to learn about local medicinal plants and wild foods

Jackson Homesteaders is one of the oldest farms in Alberta that is still in operation on the original homestead.

We reside on the original piece of land that Thomas Jackson first occupied in 1883, after originally arriving in 1881 with Richard Ottewell. The Jacksons have a proud farming heritage and our farm has received two Century Farm awards. We invite you to come tour our farm and learn about how our operation runs. We farm 3200 acres in Strathcona County and the Edmonton area, and we partner with extended family to work another 1800 acres in Killam AB. Jacksons also run a horse boarding business, run a community garden, as well as have a small herd of Dexter-cross cattle.

• We'll be having farm tours running all weekend

• As well as up-close encounters with the horses, ponies, chickens, ducks and cows.

The tours will be for all-ages. You'll learn about the crops we grow, how we grow them, the machinery we use and some of the proud history of our farm. We'll have games for the kids and hotdogs available for purchase. Porta-potties will be on-site as well. Because it was such a success last year, we are inviting local artisans to set up and sell their wares, so please come out to support some local artists! We are located immediately north of Hwy 16, north of Sherwood Park on Clover Bar Road.  

Welcome to Little Feet Homestead.

We are excited to be participating in out first Alberta Open Farms Day. We are a 1st generation Homestead located 15 minutes East of St Paul. We are a small family run Homestead that focuses on self AND community sufficiency. We grow a large portion our own food, raise and process our own livestock, and teach others in the community how to be more self and community sufficient through our in person, hands on workshops. We offer workshop in Canning, Preserving, Raising and Butchering Small Livestock. Join us on Sunday August 17th for some great activities and learning opportunities.

**While we love and have plenty of animals we kindly ask you leave any pets at home. Also know we are a working homestead and do have 2 friendly farm dogs.

Throughout Alberta Open Farm Days Medieval Manor Gardens will be providing:

• Nature tours and tours of our greenhouse, poultry operations, horses, sheep, and field management.

• Dragonfly Spirit CreeAtions (Indigenous culture sharing), Fescue Naturalization (native landscaping), LILSA (Lake Isle and Lac Ste. Anne Stewardship Society), Fuhr Estate Winery and Craft Distillery will be present along with more vendors and organizations TBA.

Though there is no charge to attend and our gates will be open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm both the Saturday and Sunday, We recommend that people book their spots for tours ahead of time to avoid possibly being turned away if we are at capacity. Schedule:

Welcome to Niznik Ranches!

Come tour our 105 year old 5th generation farm and ranch in the County “Where Water Works Wonders." Niznik Ranches is a mixed operation with farm land, grass for grazing, black angus cattle, as well as Angus Wagyu cross cattle. On Niznik Ranches we irrigate our crops with water diverted off the Bow River. In the early years we used contour flood irrigation, moving to machine levelled flood, wheel moves, ditches were replaced with gated pipe, and pivots that advanced from high pressure to high efficiency low pressure pivots. Come learn about irrigation, pet, brush, & ride horses, see farming implements old and new, enjoy cattle grazing grass on rich ecosystems, cattle handling systems, and learn the ways we use the gift of water to grow some of the best crops and grazing pastures in western Canada!

The Olds College Smart Farm is made up of more than 3,000 acres of land

It is used for crop and forage production including state-of-the-art equipment and technology, 1,000-head capacity feedlot, commercial cow/calf herd, Purebred Red Angus herd and sheep flock — as well as expertise and leadership in ag tech research and development. The Smart Farm also has access to greenhouses, labs, incubator space, a brewery, the National Meat Training Centre, plus additional infrastructure at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology. Primarily focused on five main areas of applied research — autonomous agricultural equipment, sensors, data utilization, technology development and validation, and regenerative agriculture — the Smart Farm is working towards providing producers with real-life applied research to help them make informed decisions about implementing technology in their own operations.

We will offer bus tours of the Smart Farm and walking tours of the Campus, people are free to explore our Brewery, Meat Shop and Wetlands on their own.

Come and join us for our first Alberta Open Farm Days!

We will be open Saturday August 16th 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and Sunday August 17th  10:00 am until 5:00 pm

Pitchfork Gardens opened in 2020. We grow a variety of vegetables plus strawberries and raspberries for you to pick. We grow the normal to the wild, well as wild as vegetables can get. As the season runs from spring into the fall the types of vegetables change with the season. We grow the following but not limited to: apples, beets, beet greens, beans, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, dill, fennel, garlic, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers -sweet and hot, potatoes, raspberries, shallots, strawberries, tomatoes The exact varieties are numerous for all types. For example we have 20 different tomatoes, 15 different peppers, 5 types of beans, two types of peas, 5 types of onions, 3 types of leeks and 4 types of types.

Activities during the Open Farm Days Event

• PLANT A DRAGON (dragon's tongue bean) and take it home with you to watch it grow
• hot dog and a pop for $5, donated to the County of Lamont Food Bank
• garden tours, may encounter rough terrain, rocks, gravel
• visit the honey bee hives, bee careful as they are hard at work and protected with an electric fence
• pick your own veggies, most veggies should be available at this time of the year, some may be limited quantity

We grow wheat, barley, rye, canola, and peas—and raise pigs, sheep, and chickens—with a strong focus on sustainability, education, and family fun.

ALUS (Alternative Land Use Services) will showcase how farmers and ranchers create nature-based solutions on their land to build climate resilience and enhance biodiversity for the benefit of communities and future generations. Including a bat detector so you can hear the bats chatting from our bat houses! Burnt Water Roasters will roast fresh coffee at our farm to sample right here or to take home. We will have a special Barrhead Open Farm Day flavor to be enjoyed hot or cold. Bring the whole family for a farm-filled day of learning, exploring, and connecting with nature and agriculture.    

The Red Brick Common has been preserving and promoting the history and culture of Stony Plain and the surrounding area for over 50 years.

During Open Farm Days:

come explore our living museum that reflects the local agricultural history of Stony Plain and Western Canadian pioneer life. There will be many activities happening on site during Open Farmers Days which include:

Rocking T Farms is a first generation regenerative family farm.

Rocking T Farms is a regenerative family farm. We produce pasture raised pork and cover-crop finished beef, with plans of starting a market garden and producing cover crop seed. All health starts in the soil microbiome. Without soil health there is no plant health, no animal health, and ultimately, no human health. We do our best to contribute to the health of our eco-system through our farming practices. Rotational grazing and cover crops are at the forefront of that. Our pigs are moved on a daily basis to not only spread manure and wake up the soil, but to also prepare the land for a light tillage pass that can then be seeded with diverse cover crops. During spring and summer the cows are moved on our perennial pastures, where they feast on a beautiful mix of legumes, grasses and brassicas. In the fall, to allow our perennials ample time to set root and recover for winter, we move the cows onto the previously seeded cover crops to finish them for the last few weeks before their butcher dates.

Join us for a day of walking through our pasture and learning about regenerative agriculture.

Bring a good pair of shoes, or come with bare feet if you like, and come for a walk with us. Grab a coffee and hang out in the garden, learn where and how your food is produced. Dig a hole and look at what is happening below. Connect the dots, connect to the land and enjoy a day outside!    

Welcome Back...

Our family operates a closed Hereford cow herd calving annually. Located approx. 60 miles north of Edmonton just off of the Ft. McMurray highway, we are part of the lush semi-wooded Parkland Region which surrounds our farm. Our pastures and hay lands are pesticide and herbicide free. The beef animals we raise from birth are hormone and anti-biotic free. We also practice responsible farm animal care and follow humane livestock management and handling techniques.

• We will be offering farm tours of our farm as well as set up for retailing of our farm products.

• Our farm is a mixed farm , tours will include our cattle livestock tour as well as a tour of what we grow...grain, forage crops, and vegetable crops.

Join the Starland County Agricultural Service Board and partners on Saturday, August 16, 2025, for a fantastic day touring local farms and operations in the county.

The tour will be followed by a long table dinner at Barney's Adventure Park, where a local chef will serve a delicious catered meal made with local meat and produce. Get ready for a fun-filled tour and a delightful long table dinner with great company. Tour stops include Pioneer Canola Plots, Crooked Lakes Livestock & Grain, Cloverleaf Hutterite Colony Gardens, Starland Seed Cleaning Plant, and Bio-Agtive Emissions Farming. The long table dinner will feature multiple courses, staged John Deere equipment for touring, a western band, a photo booth, and yard games. The Farm on Dead Horse Flats & Peace River Petals is a mixed-use farm.

We raise cattle and pigs with regenerative techniques, as well as operate a small-scale flower farm, market garden, and UPICK. Growing animals and plants in a Northern environment brings a lot of challenges and we are up to the task! We manage our land without the use of any pesticides or herbicides. We believe that with careful attention to the land, it will tell you what is needed. Over time, our pastures will be grazed by the cattle using AMP-grazing methods (Adaptive Multi-Paddock), which will ultimately feed the soil and return it to its former glory. Our gardens are managed using beneficial insects and feeding the natural biology of the soil through intentional cover-cropping and animal inputs. Happy soil = happy plants & animals! We focus primarily on raising heritage breeds of pigs and cattle, as they are more suitable to our unforgiving climate and harsh winters. Grass-fed and pasture-raised, these animals are given the best possible life before their one inevitable bad day. The Lilac Row is a cut-flower family farm in near Coaldale Alberta.

We offer fresh seasonal bouquets, full wedding services, and specialize in creating unique events such as flower U-Picks, workshops, and classes. Our on-farm flower U-Pick gives guests the opportunity to choose, cut, and arrange their own bouquets with the help of your farmer florists. We also host on-farm private and public events. Hosting an event yourself? We can also bring the blooms to you with our flower trailer named Sarah!

We are thrilled to invite guests to our farm for a complimentary garden tour, where we'll discuss our cut flower production and the challenges of growing flowers in Southern Alberta. Guests can purchase one of our fresh bouquets to take home or simply enjoy conversations about gardening and ask any questions they may have.

The Little Market Farm lives up to its name. Our small 4 acre farm produces a large variety of vegetables in a small footprint. We grow in soil, without the use of synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Our produce is nutrient dense and delicious.

 Your day at our farm will include a farm tour of our greenhouse, farm store, vendor market and cheeky chickens.

Stay for one of our tours. There will be a small group of local vendors selling their products. Shop our farm store and save yourself a trip to the grocery store. Grab a snack, take a seat and enjoy the view.  A safe space to explore and some activities will be available for the kids. While your here visit the World Famous Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington. Our farm will be open to visitors Saturday August 16th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. **We have guardian dogs and chickens so we ask that you leave your pooches at home.**

The Venue of New Hope offers a unique blend of facilities, featuring a charming barn that serves as both a cafe and events rental space.

Attached to our barn is our greenhouse and a patio area where guests can relax with a coffee while witnessing the cultivation of our own food and plants for the cafe and venue. Experience the pleasure of the outdoors within our indoor setting. Additionally, we are actively engaged in vermicomposting with Red Wiggler Worms. Learn how this system can be implemented in your gardens and homes to manage compostable items effectively. Witness the efficiency of these hardworking worms as they enrich the soil, resulting in faster and larger produce compared to traditional outdoor vegetable beds.

Upon visiting the Venue, you will receive a starter pack of red wigglers and guidance on creating your own vermicomposting gardens. Let us demonstrate the dedication of these tiny creatures in enriching your garden soil and nourishing your houseplants while handling the composting process for you.

 

Come and enjoy a quintessential farm experience!

From the abundant trees and wildlife to our flower field and vintage barn, we think you will love it here as much as we do. We specialize in growing herbs and cut flowers. In particular, we focus on tea herbs including calendula, echinacea, chamomile, valerian, skullcap, lavender, lemon balm, peppermint, beebalm, tulsi, and ashwagandha. Cut flowers include sunflowers, amaranth, zinnias, scabiosa, snapdragons, peonies, statice, nigella, and yarrow, among others. We will be open for visitors on both August 16 & August 17, from 10 am to 4 pm each day. At 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm we will be hosting a talk about what we grow and why we grow it, with a focus on how plants improve our lives. 

Our u-pick will be closed but we will have a bouquet bar where you can select flowers and create your own bouquet to take home. We will also have both fresh and dried herbs available.

Feel free to bring a picnic lunch, wander around the farm, and visit with the chickens. We can't wait to see you and welcome you to our farm!  

We offer free, guided walking tours of our farm throughout the day, guided by one of our family members; Rod, Andria, Jessica or Briana.

Our other family members, Janet, Derrick and others will be assisting with registration, lunch and kids play area. Rod and Janet started farming in the Dapp area in 1989 and have implemented many practices and management systems to improve the soils, vegetation, and wildlife of the farmland while also growing the farm business into a successful operation that is now in transition to the next generation. We raise cattle, poultry and hogs for our farm-direct meat business and we will have a variety of products available to purchase and take home that day! So we suggest that you bring a cooler or box!

Wild Country Gardens is made up of a fruit and vegetable farm

We are open Saturday and Sunday! Can't wait to see you.

We are nestled in a beautiful forested area near Wildwood, Alberta just off of Yellowhead Highway. Our orchard consists of over 3000 fruit trees and bushes, all planted by us over the last 16 years. The Gardens feature approximately 2500 heads of garlics and a large variety of vegetables and herbs which we use for making our products.

We will be offering guided tours of our farm explaining our farming practices and what is working for us. The tour can take as long as 30 minutes and up to 1 hour depending on the group.

We also offer the opportunity to shop in Wild Country Gardens Farm Store which is filled with Alberta made products all made by us, such as preserves: jams, syrups, pickles, sauerkraut and pepper jellies, Frozen fruits (Haskap, Saskatoons, Cherries) $6 per lb, New to our farm is our Freeze Dried Products: Fruit Snacks, Fruit Smoothie Mixes, Fruit, Vegetables and Herbs; Local Made Soaps, Candy, and Ice Cream Treats. Our Puschens are one of a kind. Made and designed by Paulette, they are crocheted slippers with leather soles lined with sheepskin and accented with deer antler buttons.   Coffee will be on all day.
