This is where we process all the animals on site for a full beginning to end -Farm to Table experience for our customers. 5S Farms is a fully licensed Butchershop and retail location. We will being doing some meat processing Demo's trough the day and Hosting a BBQ for lunch.

Beef Cutting Course will be approximately 3 hours per session and two sessions in total. Will demonstrate how to break down each quarter into the cuts you would see at your local grocery store and some cuts most major retail chains do not offer. Will give a guided breakdown of the processes, the tools used and regulations that govern our butchershop as well as the knowledge so that the consumer can not only make smarter choices on what they eat, but what best suits their families. All visitors will be able to tour the butchershop during these sessions and spend as little or as much time as they like, whether its just watching or asking questions.

On our farm we pride ourselves on maintaining ethical practices in raising a diverse range of animals, including chicken, beef, and pork.

Each animal is given ample space to roam and graze freely and we provide them with the highest quality feed and care. Our commitment to ethical farming practices ensures that our animals lead happy and healthy lives before they ultimately provide nourishment for our customers. We also raise beautiful brown leg horn layers. They start off as little chicks, and slowly mature into lovely hens. These beautiful birds not only contribute to our farm's vibrant atmosphere but also provide a source of high-quality farm-fresh eggs that our customers love. Visit our store to purchase these eggs laid by our happy hens, and experience the difference in taste and quality for yourself. All the animals on our farm are nourished with a specially crafted homemade feed that is prepared right here on our premises. We are a farm based distillery, where we grow our own wheat and barley in order to produce the best whisky in the world!* In addition to whisky, we make the some of the best gins in the country.**

• You will meet out adorable Nigerian Dwarf goats, piglets, and this year's newest addition lambs!
• You will also get a tour of our gardens and learn about our no spray, low till systems.
• We will have a selection of in season veggies for sale. Our garlic will be fresh out of the ground as well!
• You will have the opportunity to purchase some feed. So you can go in to feed and play with the goats and lambs.

Cash works best however we have square as well for debit/credit. Please leave your four legged friends at home.  We do have farm dogs and they don't like competition for attention. We have electric fencing, assume all fencing is live and stay with the tour please.

Aurora Alpacas is a family-owned alpaca ranch on 80 acres.

We purchased our 1st two alpacas in 2017 and since then, we have produced National, Supreme and Color Champions, which we are extremely proud of.

Currently we have 28 alpacas with 9 cria (babies) expected this summer.

If you are curious about alpacas & the amazing fiber products and how they are produced come visit us to learn & experience this unique livestock firsthand. Learn to love alpacas like we do by getting a chance to:

• ask questions and gain 1st-hand knowledge about what makes alpacas so unique
• take photos and watch them in the pasture and up close
• handle fiber shorn from the alpaca this past spring, and samples from the various stages of processing fiber into yarn
• watch spinning/weaving demonstrations
• visit the market to purchase yarn, alpaca products, and alpaca novelty items (debit/credit cards accepted).

We are so excited to be opening up our farm to all of you.

We can't wait to show you our piece of heaven, the coffee roaster and what we do to create our coffees.  We will have a variety of coffees available for purchase and can accept cash, debit and credit cards.   Our 400g bags are available for $18.00 and include our Sealegs Sumatran, Country Roads Columbian, Beans Brazillian, and our NEW Backroads Blend.  We will also have our signature flavours Murphy's Irish Cream, Kilts on Grogg and some new flavours to welcome to the line up; these 200g bags are available for $12.00. Family is very important to us, so come and meet ours.

• Learn about how we roast coffee and about how beans are classified based on where they are grown and much much more.

We will have lots of games for the kids, coffee samples and some tasty treats from our friends at Twisted Fork; a farm to table restaurant in our community.

Come and visit our 71 acre facility, take a moment to admire the artistic community painted murals at our gates before you climb aboard our wagon ride to learn about local history, agricultural societies and things we have growing at BADAS.  Get off at our Urban Agriculture Centre and participate in nature activities and games, take a pollinator and community garden tour, or relax in nature and enjoy some lunch from our BBQ fundraiser.

Explore our 2 acre Urban Agriculture Centre (UAC) including food forest, passive solar greenhouse with tool library, pollinator gardens, school demonstration garden and 104 community garden plots. Water is a key to the success of our gardens, our 2 acre pond and wetland area supports a diversity of wildlife and insects as well as our gardeners. While you are here you can purchase local soil amendments made locally by Annelida Soil Solutions worms and soil experts or a native flower to support habitat in your backyard, or for a friend. 

This year we are excited to host a Bumble Bee Box Building workshop hosted by and supporting the Alberta Native Bee Council (ANBC). 

The ANBC Bumble Bee Box Workshops are interactive events that combine education and hands-on activities to support the conservation of Alberta’s native bumble bees. Participants learn about the importance of pollinator habitats and build their own bumble bee nesting boxes to take home. This activity requires pre-registration and costs $100, 30 spaces available, tickets will be available May 2025.

Farm Tours

Farm tours are free and last about 30 minutes. We take a walk through the farm, learn about soil health, beneficial insects and plants, solarization, crop rotation, and much more.

Sturgeon Moon Dinner- SOLD OUT

Begin the evening with a tour of our family flower farm, and then dine in the field amongst the flowers. Dinners will showcase seasonal produce from our farm, and neighboring farms, with the meal being prepared before you by professional Chefs. Round out the night with sweets in the garden where you might be able to catch a glimpse of the full moon and stars. The August Full moon is called the Sturgeon Moon - The sturgeon moon got its name from the large number of sturgeon fish found in the great lakes in eastern Canada. This dinner will feature locally sourced fish with additional menu items curated to reflect the best of what is in season.

Free Admission for all!

Alberta Open Farm Days is a collaborative, province-wide, two-day event that allows Albertans to experience the farm and understand where their food comes from. It is a backstage pass to meet the farmer, experience ag tourism in Alberta, and taste local foods directly from the producer.

The Bar U Ranch will host demonstrations, discovery tables, and Horse Drawn Wagon Rides.

We grow all of our own fruit for use in making of the wines We make 4 wines, The Barb (rhubarb wine) The Rhuby (rhubarb strawberry wine) The Other Red (raspberry wine) and The Jewel (sour cherry wine)

The Barrhead District Seed Cleaning Co-op Ltd is a farmer owned Cooperative.

It provides Seed Processing services which include cleaning (removal of weed seeds and impurities), upgrading of commercial grain, seed treating as well as seed sales on behalf of local growers.

For Alberta Open Farm Days we will provide FREE guided tours of the Plant with In depth explanations of the processes involved to ensure excellent seed quality.

There will be displays of the different types of grain we process as well as displays of germination and disease tests.

The Eastern Irrigation District (EID) is providing 2 guided Bassano Dam Tours

Tours run Saturday, August 17th at 10:00 a.m and 1:00 p.m. sharp.

Limited spots are available so pre-registration is required and can be done by calling the EID Office at 403-362-1400 starting Monday July 15th. The tour provides an opportunity to observe and learn the importance this 110-year old structure plays in the agricultural industry and the District. You will get the chance to walk under the Bow River, check out the new Emergency Spillway, and walk across the main spillway structure to have a closer look at the gates, hoists, and friction wall. The tour cannot accommodate strollers, wheelchairs, or anyone with limited mobility due to the nature of the facility.    

Beck Farms was established in 1986 and has since then been mastering the art of cultivating carrots for over 30 years.

The farm is run by a family team consisting of Shelley & Rod Bradshaw and their two sons. Their main focus is on producing and packing only the highest quality products. The farm has expanded its offerings over the years and now also grows Cole crops, Beets, Dill, Parsnips, Peppers, Eggplant, and Preserves. Beck Farms takes great pride in their work and strives to provide their customers with fresh, delicious produce.

Come join Beettam Acres in their first annual Alberta Open Farms Days

Where you and your family get to explore the exciting world of our Market Garden and Greenhouse! Established in 2021, Beettam Acres was founded with the dream of providing our customers with locally grown, great-tasting produce. Today, we are accomplishing that through our no-till regenerative gardening practices. Our plants can access more naturally occurring nutrients and minerals by ensuring we create healthy living soil. We also create prime conditions for many beneficial insects, which help create a natural ecosystem in our gardens. Our goal as a zero-till operation is to continue to be completely chemical-free. This means that we don't use any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides on any of our products. Our customer base has continued to grow and expand, and so have we here at Beettam Acres, which is growing to meet the demands of those customers. We love to show people what we are doing and teach others how to be great stewards of the land. Our farm will be open to the public both Saturday, August 17th, and Sunday, August 18th, from 9 to 7; entrance to the farm is FREE! Because if you can't, Beettam... grow em'

Welcome to our U-Pick!

You are welcome to take a self directed tour of our fruit, veggie and flower u-pick farm on August 17 and 18 and pick your way through our beautiful gardens!

We are a family farm growing U pick fruits and vegetables since 2009 starting with our first crop of strawberries which promptly got hit with hail!  Days later there hung the strong scent of berry juice, shock and heartbreak in the air.  What an education! Crops can be gone in minutes - frost on blossoms, drought and heat, hail and snow, it's crazy. What a business to be in!  But it's not always horrible and we still enjoy nurturing seedlings and seeing them mature into something people enjoy picking. After a long Alberta winter's wait, the rush of Spring begins with planning and planting, tending, weeding, watering and sky watching.  As crops produce the best flavors cool Alberta nights offer, the invitation goes out via word of mouth and social media videos to come over and pick, pick pick!  In 2023 we added more picking pleasure for our customers:  a u pick flower garden! Even though we are open to the public from 7am to 8pm everyday during the production months, we thank Alberta Open Farm Days and Servus Credit Union for extending another layer of invitation to come explore rural Alberta and Billyco Junction Gardens where we can be found tucked right between our major urban centers. We raise grass fed bison in as natural an environment as possible. Grass fed bison has the best health attributes if you're looking for meat that is low fat, low cholesterol, high in iron, and high in omega 3 fatty acids!

The Brooks and District Museum

We are situated on 7 acres within the City of Brooks. The 19 historical buildings, 23 antique tractors, and close to 70 outdoor farming and oil & gas implements perfectly encapsulate the area's unique spirit. Our displays pay tribute to farming & ranching, the CPR and EID, as well as the North-West Mounted Police and John Ware. Enjoy a self-guided tour through this hidden gem.

Open Farm Day activities will include:

• a parade of the antique tractors around the museum grounds
• a look into the farming life of early settlers to the area with hands-on opportunities to make ice-cream and butter, along with doing laundry without machines.
• play old-fashioned games without technology and practice your roping skills on the calf that won't get away.

 

The museum will have Popcorn, Sno Cones, and Cotton Candy available for purchase.

Broxburn Vegetables & Cafe is a biological vegetable farm!

We also have a strawberry & raspberry u-pick, a local produce store, and a "plant to plate" cafe showcasing vegetables grown on our farm.

OFD Activities include:

• Free greenhouse tours at 11am and at 1pm.
• $3 hayrides between 10am and 3pm.
• Free jump house from 10am till 3pm.
• Free vegetables samples.
• Strawberry and raspberry picking will be open from 8am till 5pm for $4.50 per pound.

We are a local family run dairy farm

We are located just 2 miles north of Bentley, Alberta. We have been in operation at this location since 1987. The barn we are in now was built in 2017 and includes a complete robotic milking setup. We currently have a milking robot that milks the cows, a feeding robot that delivers feed to the animals 24/7, and robotic manure collection units that clean up after the animals 24/7.

We will have farm tours throughout the day showcasing the latest and greatest in the dairy industry on how milk is produced.

Canadian Co-operative Wool Growers Ltd.

(CCWG Livestock Supplies) isn't just a farm store that helps keep animals healthy and fed! We are a Canadian farmer-owned co-operative that focuses on wool marketing for sheep producers. We collect wool from all over Canada, grade it and sell it to the world market. We also sell Canadian-made woolen/sheepskin products to help promote the industry. We work closely with our sheep producers to make sure that Canadian wool reaches its’ maximum potential in the fleece and fibre market. The complexity of wool processing is the reason that wool is graded before it is sold. Medium wool goes to the woolen system and becomes sweaters, knitting yarn and tweed fabrics. The finer wool enters the worsted system, undergoing an additional process called combing and drawing which removes short ends and further straightens the long, smooth fibres. This wool makes the finest of wool fabrics. Coarse wool is streamed into the carpet system. The co-operative grades and markets close to 3 million pounds of raw wool each year, with the majority of this coming from Québec, Ontario and Alberta. Each of the three general classes of wool (fine, medium and coarse) are sold wherever the best prices are available The usual practice is to shear in the spring before lambing. An expert shearer using power equipment similar to barber clippers only larger, can shear a sheep in less than five minutes, rolling off the fleece in one piece. Fleeces are sacked and shipped to CCWG for grading and marketing.

On Saturday August 17, 2024 from 10 am to 3 pm come join us to learn about sheep and the wool industry!

This 1 1/2-hour wagon tour is perfect for anyone looking to unwind, connect or reconnect with how food is produced on our farm, and get to know us. We will focus on this year’s theme: Water.  

You will discover how important water is on our farm. How and why our solar pumping system is used to water our cattle from a dugout.  Also, what the daily water needs are for cattle.  You will get to meet our cows with their babies, watch them graze, and interact with each other.

Get ready to soak up the sunshine, breathe in the fresh air, and have a ride through our pastures with a bonus ride by the pumpkin patch opening September weekends.

When you know where your food comes from, the land that the cattle graze, the crisp prairie air that they breathe in, the ranchers that raise them since birth…Our beef is raised with love and care. Remember to bring a cooler, we will have our angus beef available for purchase.

The Coaldale and District Agricultural Society

We strives to promote the importance of agriculture to the general public in our growing rural community. We believe that it is important to have a community that is aware and understanding of where their food comes from, as well as the countless hours worked to be able to grow it and get it to their tables. As a society we are working hard to achieve this, and one of our main ways is by hosting our annual bus tour.

The 2024 CDAS Bus tour will be stopping at five different agricultural stops.

Including, 845 Spud Farms (potato farm), Vaselenak Holdings Ltd. (sugar beet farm), the Hemp Hub (hemp farm), CCWG Livestock Supplies (wool and livestock supplies), and KCL Cattle Company (feedlot and beef production).

The tour will start at 9:30am at 845 Spud Farms and end at approximately 4:30 pm at 845 Spud Farms.

There will be a lunch included for all participants of the tour.

We have honey bees!

We sell honey, beeswax, honey comb, and even have an observation hive.

Activities:

• Get lost in our 9 acre corn maze or try your luck at our gem mining plant.
• We carry fresh produce and fruit depending on what's available in season, we also produce goods like pies, juice, flour, pancake and waffle mix and wines, ciders, and meads with what we grow.
• We will have live local music and wine tastings and fruit pressing for juice at the winery with horse drawn wagons through the orchard.
• A farmers market with other local farms and vendors, and food trucks as well 18 flavors of hard ice cream, mini donuts, fresh baked pizza, candy apples, cotton candy, popcorn and Friceys ice cream treats made with our own fruit, grown right here in our orchard.

We are a direct to consumer meat producer, so we will of course have frozen meat available for purchase. We raise grass-fed and finished beef and heritage pastured pork. From ground beef to brisket, bacon to pork shoulders and everything in between, there is something for every meat lover out there. Bring a cooler along if you'd like to purchase some of our meat. We also have tallow products that we make here on the farm. There will be food and drinks available for purchase on site. Dreamcatcher Nature Assisted Therapy is a psychology practice!

We are located on a beautiful 40-acre ranch in Ardrossan, Alberta. We provide a variety of psychological services, an online academy for certifying professionals in Animal Assisted Services, as well as for screening, training, and certifying therapy dogs, and we offer Tourism experiences that include our Time on the Land Program, goat yoga, a magical forest, guided animal tours, and more!

This year, on Sunday, August 18th, we are participating in both the Alberta Open Farm Days event and the Alberta Roadside Stand Tour!

Event Activities:

• Animal Demonstration: Learn all about Animal Assisted Services by our Owner and Founder, Eileen Bona as she demonstrates the healing power of animals in therapy. 
• Interactive Animal Stations: Drop by our animal stations to meet our critters and learn all about their stories, behaviors, and how they help people in therapy!
• Tractor Hayride Tours: Hop aboard for a bumpy but fun hay ride through our back 40 pastures to get a full land view of our gorgeous 40-acre lot!
• Nature Yoga: On top of the hill you will get a beautiful view of the animals and the event below while being led through a series of relaxing yoga poses by our certified yoga instructor.
• Magical Forest Trails: Take a walk through our magical forest, see how many gnomes and fairies you can spot, or bring a picnic to enjoy with your family!
• Craft Station: Scavenge for your craft materials in our magical forest and create your very own nature-inspired craft to take home with you! 

Know Before You Go!

Admissions to the event is FREE, however, there may items or experiences that are available to purchase. We prefer cash, but we do have a square reader on-site that relies on wi-fi and can be finicky, otherwise we also accept e-transfer. For courtesy, we ask that guests do not enter no-go zones such as the house up at the top of the driveway, inside the office (unless guided by staff/volunteer), in animal pens (without a staff/volunteer present), or cross the lines marked in the magical forest.

Arrival:

• There will be parking attendants at the end of the driveway and in the parking lot, they will be wearing yellow reflective safety vests.
• Parking may be limited, please carpool if possible, please follow instructions from our parking attendants. Guests may be turned away at the gate if capacity has been reached, this is to adhere to bylaws and ensure road safety.
• Please DO NOT park in the neighbors driveway! Vehicles may be towed at the owners expense or their cars may be moved by the home owner.
• There will be a greeter at the end of the driveway, they will hand out materials, stamp passports (road stand tour), and direct you where to go.
• Once inside the event, there will be a market booth stand where you can check-in, ask questions, or purchase items.
• Event staff & volunteers will be wearing orange shirts with our logo and says "volunteer" on them, please feel free to ask them for help, guidance, or anything else!

Other:

• There will be signage around the event that include: safety rules, waiver & photo acknowledgement, bathrooms, activities, etc.
• There is a wheel-chair accessible washroom on-site for all guests to use.
• We also have first-aid kits on-site and there will be staff/volunteers who are trained in first-aid.
• While we do our best to be wheel-chair & stroller accessible, there may be some areas out of our control that are hard to maneuver (e.g., magical forest trails).

Safety:

• For the safety of your animals and ours, please DO NOT bring your dogs/pets! We may turn you away at the gate if you bring your pet as we cannot allow guests to leave their pets in their vehicles unsupervised.
• Please DO NOT enter the animal pens without a staff/volunteer present.
• Guests must be wearing closed-toe shoes if entering animal pens.
• For safety reasons, please do not bring any animal treats into the pens or feed them human food (it might hurt their bellies), you may be able to feed them treats over the fence.
• Animal fence lines will not be monitored or supervised, if interacting with the animals over the fence, please proceed with caution and do so at your own risk.
• Please do not climb the goat play structures, or hay and straw bales as these have not been secured for climbing and the goat structures are rickety, old, and you may get hurt.
• Our magical forest has a very healthy root system, the trails do have tripping hazards, please watch your step while walking through the forest.
• Parents must accompany their children for all activities and kids must be supervised at all times!
• All guests are responsible for their own safety & their children's - our staff/volunteers will do their best to keep people safe while interacting with the animals, please follow their rules and respect the animals.
• By attending this event, you are accepting full liability of any and all risks involved.

Recommendations:

• Bring sunscreen and bug spray (especially for the magical forest).

WE LOVE GARLIC!

We’ve been growing garlic for around 15 years and selling it for 10 years. We have the perfect climate for growing gorgeous and tasty varieties of hardneck garlic. That’s the kind that has solid, strong cloves with a central stalk that comes up early in the summer and makes an ‘umbel’ that is full of little bulbs called ‘bulbils’. Our generally cool nights and short growing season seem to suit the plants perfectly – they emerge early in spring which can look a lot like winter in our area. Scapes form quickly in late June, bursting open in mid-July, if they aren’t removed, and the bulbs are ready from late-July to early-August, and are well cured by mid-September. We eat the bulbs starting in July as the new bulbs taste so great. We have a small herd of Highland Cattle on our natural grass pasture. They’re raised very quietly and we sell the calves live for those who enjoy their beauty and as freezer beef for those who appreciate the lean smaller carcass. We feel strongly about our soil health and about natural, regenerative growing practices. We do our work by hand and don’t use any chemical fertilizers or weed killers. We enjoy the variety of bug and bird life here and try to support and maintain the healthy ecosystem.

Welcome to Gathered and Grown Family Farm, where our coffee is cold, boots are muddy, and hearts are full.  Our little farm offers something for everyone from subscription boxes of eggs and farm fresh veggies, right down to the chance to suit up and inspect a beehive.  As we grow, so do your opportunities to come and spend some time with us, be it on a field trip, one of our drop in or registered programs, a festival, or just picking up produce. We hope you leave us knowing a little bit more about your food and the environment that produced it. We are so glad you popped into our little corner of the internet and hope to see you on the farm soon!

We will be offering hourly tours which will include meeting our animals, visiting our garden, exploring our greenhouse and pastures, and hearing all about the mission of our farm.

In addition to tours visitors will have the opportunity to collect eggs, feed animals, face painting and glitter tattoos, make buttons, and suit up to visit the beehives (at additional costs).

Breathe in the history on a guided tour of the 1930s log home and Pegg’s plant collector garden.

Follow the self-guided tour with photos and artifacts to see how early pioneers farmed. Step into the farmstead kitchen to recall the days when harvesting and preserving wild fruits and garden produce was vital to families.

The George Pegg Botanic Garden is a 12 acre portion of the original Pegg family farmstead that was established in 1913. Young George developed a keen interest in plants and birds, which continued into his adulthood. His work was a valuable contribution to the record of Alberta’s native plants. George’s original garden of mature trees and ornamental perennials is the centrepiece of this site. As a Provincial Historic Resource, Pegg Garden preserves many of the original buildings- reminding us of the pioneers who established this agricultural community.

Come join us for an afternoon of fun!

On our farm where we raise Chickens, Pigs and Cattle, all on pasture or in the forest.

We will do guided Farm Tours at 1:30 pm, 3:00pm, and 4:30pm followed by equipment tours for whoever is interested.

• Starting at 5:30 we will have a fire pit going (or BBQ depending on weather) and everyone is welcome to bring a picnic supper and something to roast on the fire.
• There is a swing set and some lawn games available for kids (or adults) to play with.
• You are also welcome to explore the farm on your own or visit with one of us by the Tent. Coffee, Lemonade and Water provided.
• If you stay long enough into the evening we might put you to work helping with chores!

The tours will involve quite a bit of walking through pasture and forest. Closed toed shoes are recommended. Also come prepared for the weather and please leave pets at home.

We would kindly ask that you stay out of animals pens unless a farm team member is with you.

Come On Down to Hartell Homestead

The Hartell homestead is a mixed farm with highland cattle, ducks, chickens and goats. They also boast a large market garden and have the first farm store in the foothills on site. We sell beef, pork, bison, eggs and lots more from right here in the foothills. Swing on in to see all the animals learn about where your food comes from and take home some truly local ingredients grown here in the foothills.

Tours are every hour on the hour and are free.

Healing Homestead is a second generation family owned and operated mixed livestock farm located in Parkland County, AB.

We specialize in breeding, raising and conserving Heritage Breed poultry (Chickens, Turkeys and a Peacock or two!) pasture raised heritage pork and new this year our herd of Alpacas. Our farm runs with the well-being in mind for the land and the animals we steward. The nutrient-density of our food is a direct reflection of the health of the ecosystem that produced it. Our thriving farm ecosystem produces nourishing chicken, turkey, pork, eggs, and produce. Zero chemicals, pesticides & hormones. All animals are fed a Corn & Soy Free diet.

Healing our bodies with nutrient dense food inspired our new on farm Exclusive Gluten Free Bakeshop. Using high protein & fiber rich Alberta produced flours to make delicious GF Baked Goods. During Open Farm Days you can come out NW of Olds and check out how that grain from the field becomes the main, and most important, ingredient in your favorite local craft beer!

While we love craft beer, we ARE NOT a brewery. This is often a very easy mistake for many folks to make as the craft of malting barley is not well known, or wide spread. So join us for a tour and to learn about malting!

We do have some malt available for purchase but please reach out in advance if you hope to pick any up for your home brewing ventures so we can ensure we have what you want! Email alex@hogarthmalt.ca if this is something you are hoping for.

Jackson Homesteaders is one of the oldest still-operating homesteads in Alberta

We reside on the original piece of land that Thomas Jackson first occupied in 1883. The Jacksons have a proud farming heritage and invite you to come tour our farm and learn about how our operation runs. We farm 3200 acres in Strathcona County and the Edmonton area, and we partner with extended family to work another 1800 acres in Killam AB. Jacksons also run a horse boarding business, as well as have a small herd of Dexter-cross cattle.

• We'll be having farm tours running all weekend

• As well as up-close encounters with the horses, ponies, chickens, ducks and cows.

The tours will be for all-ages. You'll learn about the crops we grow, how we grow them, the machinery we use and some of the proud history of our farm. We'll have games for the kids and hotdogs available for purchase. Porta-potties will be on-site as well. We are also hoping to have some local artwork available for viewing and sale (if all goes well with the planning!). We are located immediately north of Hwy 16, north of Sherwood Park on Clover Bar Road.

Lakeside Farmstead Cheese is locally crafted in Sturgeon County, Alberta using our very own single-source milk.  We are excited to offer quality products produced sustainably at the farm—food we are proud to serve on our table and yours.

Lakeside Farmstead will be providing FREE tours of our Calf Barn!

This will allow visitors to see the care of the calves, heifers and cows on our farm. There will be an overview of not only our diary program but also our beef program as well.

• We will also be providing a tour of our cheese facility for a nominal fee of $10/persons over 13 years old. This will include a look into how we produce cheese and the ageing process.

Our Farm Store will be open to the public.

Leduc's Only Brewery!

Come for OFD and stay for our Fundraiser!

As the only brewery in Leduc, we take great pride in providing delicious beer that is lovingly crafted using real ingredients from real farms. We are also grateful for the opportunity to give back to our community, which includes returning spent grains to local farmers. We will have FREE brewery tours led by our head brewer, Dave, during Open Farm Days.

• This will be the first time that Dave has led tours, and he has over 15 years of experience brewing beer.
• You will be able to sample some of the grains, malts, or hops that go into our brews, be able to tour the facility and learn about the brewing process, and be able to sample some of the beers that are included in the tour.

The tours run at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., with a maximum of 20 people per tour, so make sure to arrive early.

*Children are welcome to visit the brewery and play any of our many games, such as the foosball table and shuffle board, but they are not permitted to take the tour. Not only will Green Work Farms impart their expertise on sustainable farming, but they will also introduce you to some unusual chicken pals!

Saturday Evening starting at 5:30 pm we will be holding a fundraiser for The Thaddeus Lake Music Foundation. This event will include food, live music- The Rule of Nines, and silent auction!

Little Daisy Florals is a 2.5 acre cut flower farm.

In 2024 we are growing over 200 different colour and varieties of flowers to be cut and enjoyed in hand tied bouquets.

During Alberta Open Farm Days, we will be giving tours of the flower farm, allowing opportunities for U-Picks (additional cost), and learn about growing cut flowers and gardening in a Zone 3 climate.

Little Farm on Wall Street is a flower farm and soy candle shop owned and operated by the Krook family in Clearwater County, AB.

Join us for a day exploring the flowers, learning about our growing practices, touring the workshop, and shopping the farmers market and studio shop. Question and answer tour times with Brittany will be offered at the marked location.

Tour times will be 11am, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm, and 4pm.

• We offer u-pick for purchase and will have food truck options on site for both snacks and meals.

Welcome to Manual Labour Beer Co.!

After a life of hard work, mastering a number of different careers, Richard McLeod was ready for our next challenge and turned to his long-time hobby of home-brewing for inspiration. He dreamt up his ideal beer menu and brewery, then spent the better portion of 18 months bringing it to life with help from his wife, Nicole, son, Ethan, and father, Archie, who all work with him at the brewery to this day. Manual Labour Beer Co is a microbrewery on the edge of suburban and rural life, in the heart of Strathcona County, Alberta. They celebrate the hard work you complete everyday, from pushing the lawnmower, to finishing an honest day's work, to doing the dishes, to simply putting on a pair of real pants! They produce a wide range of beer styles, from light lagers to dark stouts, so that every individual can find a beer they love. The taproom is a friendly neighbourhood gathering spot where locals can connect with each other and celebrate their daily victories.

For Open Farm Days, Manual Labour is putting on an interactive display to showcase the brewing process and highlight exactly how they work with their neighbours to create great beer and great community.

We are a regenerative mixed animal family farm!

We seek to heal our bodies and our soil by implementing regenerative practices such as rotational grazing, pasture raising animals, and feeding healthy locally sourced food. We aim to reduce the need for medication and chemicals in our food. We do not feed antibiotics, use hormones for growth, or vaccinate our animals that we sell to eat.

We raise pigs, sheep, cattle, chickens, turkeys, and ducks. We have a small on-farm store and website to purchase healthy food for your family.

Things to do:

• We will have pasture tours of rotational grazing to show the benefits to the animals and the soil.
• We will have a kids area were kids can interact with animals in a safe environment.
• We will also show how chicken tractors can aid in growing healthier chicken for consuming.
• We will have raw wool to see the raw product that gets turned into the clothes we wear and how wool can help the environment and has many uses.

We will have a kids area to do crafts, and learn about the importance of farming.

We will have an area to share information about the importance of regenerative farming and also about how small scale farming also can assist us in ethically raising animals that are happy and healthy.

The store will be open for purchases. Bring a cooler!

We will have hand washing stations and hand sanitizer and ask that good hand hygiene be used to reduce risks to our animals.

Medicine Hat Brewing Company is a family owned craft brewery!

We are located inside the city limits of Medicine Hat Alberta. At this brewery we create numerous styles of craft beer for the patrons of Medicine hat and all of Alberta. Our brewers use Alberta 2 row pale malted barley for the majority of our brews but also mix in other varieties for different flavors.

On Saturday August 17th during the Alberta Farm Days,

Our brewery will be hosting the public to come in and tour our facility for the day, our full service kitchen on site will have some special food features for the day and we always have some delicious cold craft beer on tap that we produce right on location. Come in and enjoy a house made hot pretzel with cheese sauce on the patio and pair it with a tasting flight of different craft beer styles of your choosing. Enjoy Alberta Open Farm Days!

We offer workshops and tours and provide related products to inspire action in better stewarding the environment we live in and share with others.

Throughout Alberta Open Farm Days Medieval Manor Gardens will be providing:

During the Open Farm Days, in addition to our usual offerings, we will be hosting a special meat smoking demonstration and guided tours of our indoor vertical garden. Musee St. Paul Museum is 2 museums in one that is proud to participate in Open Farm Days !

We will be having a number of activities that illustrate farming in the early days on the Alberta prairie.

Activities:

• petting zoo,
• cream separating demonstrations, churning ice cream once the cream is separated,
• making butter demonstrations and the ever popular hay ride for kids of all ages.
• Admission to the museum grounds is sponsored by St. Paul Community Futures so participants can access all the activities free of charge.

The Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre is a set of restored grain elevators located in Nanton.

The Centre’s goal is to preserve these three remaining prairie icons to educate visitors about Nanton’s and Alberta’s agricultural history. As often as possible, tours are conducted by former grain elevator managers or employees, who are a wealth of information about these “skyscrapers of the prairies” that were so closely tied to the well-being of Alberta communities for so many years.

• Participants will enjoy tours of the restored Pioneer grain elevator and see the rare 1929 Alberta Pool twin elevators.
• Weather permitting, we will be holding engine runs featuring a 1/4 scale Case steam tractor model as well as a Fairbanks grain elevator engine.

We've taken up shop in the old fire hall in the hamlet of New Sarepta!

The building was destined to be knocked down, but we saw value in keeping the structure, which has played a large role in the history of our hamlet. Inside, we take local honey (some of it our own and some from neighbours) and local berries and ferment the world's oldest fermented adult beverage: Mead. You may have read about mead in Viking novels or TV shows.

We offer FREE tours and tastings so people can become reacquainted with the history and place mead has in human history.

Alberta produces some of the world's best honey, so why not also build a meadery industry at least that's what we think.

Pitchfork Gardens opened in 2020. We grow a variety of vegetables plus strawberries and raspberries for you to pick. We grow the normal to the wild, well as wild as vegetables can get. As the season runs from spring into the fall the types of vegetables change with the season. We grow the following but not limited to: apples, beets, beet greens, beans, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, dill, fennel, garlic, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers -sweet and hot, potatoes, raspberries, shallots, strawberries, tomatoes The exact varieties are numerous for all types. For example we have 20 different tomatoes, 15 different peppers, 5 types of beans, two types of peas, 5 types of onions, 3 types of leeks and 4 types of types.

Activities during the Open Farm Days Event

• PLANT A DRAGON (dragon's tongue bean) and take it home with you to watch it grow
• hot dog and a pop for $5, donated to the County of Lamont Food Bank
• garden tours, may encounter rough terrain, rocks, gravel

Join Prairie Hill Farms for their first annual Open Farm Days!

Prairie Hill Farms Ltd. (PHF) is a food plant manufacturing facility established in 2020 in Picture Butte, Alberta, Canada. We process food and beverages, with our main products being BBQ sauces, juice, jams/spreads, syrups, and other preserves. Our tours are family friendly, fun and educational. There will be facility tours occurring every hour starting at 9 in the morning as well as berry field tours that will be open throughout the day! During these tours you will be learning about all the varieties and health benefits that come along with haskap berries, how our products are produced, and so much more! Our farm will be open to visitors on Saturday, August 17th, 2024 from 9am to 3pm for free tours.

The Priddis & Millarville Fair is unique in Canada as the longest-running, community-supported, old-time country Fair.

Located at the Millarville Racetrack.

The Fair is the place to come to learn about Alberta's agricultural heritage.

Come to the Farm Yard and see llamas, miniature horses, sheep, cows, and goats. There is even a Poop Identification Station to test your knowledge of scat and tracks of wild animals.

The Barns have Goats, Sheep, and Rabbits on display and in competition. The Poultry classes can be seen in the Quonset.

The bench exhibits that have been judged for ribbons, and prizes are in the Arena. You can view the work of local artisans, gardeners, photographers, and woodworkers. Artistic pasture art, aka licked salt blocks that have been judged, is also on view. There are Wildside exhibitors in the arena. You can visit live birds of prey, make a flappy bat, and learn about hummingbird tagging.

We have antique engines and tractors, and Model As and Model Ts, that span the generations.
Horse riding competitions include light horse English, Western, and Gymkhana.

Contests include pie and watermelon eating, rooster crowing, tractor pulls, and hale bale tossing...

Face painting, visiting the honey bees, watching stock dog demonstrations, or visiting Food Trucks. You can also paint a rock, decorate a cookie, experiment with digital art, and visit the Sheep Creek Weavers, who have tents set up for demos and interactive activities.
The Millarville Historical Society has many photos and wonderful historical collections on display.
Agriculture For Life is bringing their interactive trailer to help you Know Your Food.
Our markets are open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. With products made, baked, or grown in Alberta, you can support local Farmers and Crafters at our markets.

Our theme is "Country Fun for Everyone" and we're very serious about our fun!

We are the Thiessen Family and have been growing cut flowers since 2019.

We sell our flowers through a bouquet subscription program, markets and u-picks. We mostly grow all our flowers in fields and have one high-tunnel in production.

Quiet Hills Ranch is a family run beef cow and calf farm, which grows a lot of hay.

We are located within the Beaver Hills Biosphere and have rolling grasslands and forests on our land.

We provide unmatched agriculture inspired experiences for mental health and learning including equine therapy and the Equus Experience, and cattle experiences including the Ultimate Bullfighting Experience.

Their farm demonstrates a new way of living where health, happiness, and sustainability are the goals, and abundance is on the horizon. This beautiful five-acre permaculture demonstration farm has the potential to host events, workshops, and courses, while offering affordable, comfortable, all-inclusive accommodations. The resort creates a friendly, comfortable atmosphere that enhances social interaction, connections with the natural world, and confidence in themselves as an informed consumer. We are surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes including forest, open fields and a nice view of snow-capped mountains. Up until 2019, Red Deer County’s Agricultural Services Board (ASB) hosted 17 consecutive agricultural tours as a way to showcase local farm and agricultural operations. However, 2019 was the last year of that tour. Now, we’re excited to bring a whole new tour experience for everyone to enjoy! Not only will we visit three unique farms, but we have the opportunity to converse with farmers one-on-one and taste their produce through talented chefs who promote using locally sourced ingredients as a dining experience set at the stunning Canyon Ski Resort to finish off the night. Our farm stops include: Garlic Goodness- A family farm with rich, organic soil where hardneck garlic thrives in six distinct varieties: Chesnok Red, German Red, Music, Prairie Fire, Russian Red, and Yugoslavian. Alongside our bountiful garlic harvest, we cultivate potatoes and onions, all nurtured without the use of chemicals or pesticides. Our commitment to natural farming practices ensures that our vegetables and garlic burst with robust, authentic flavors. Nestled on our farm is a small herd of Highland and Highland crossbred cattle roam freely, grazing on grass and hay. We take pride in offering sides and quarters of beef raised without hormones or antibiotics, expertly cut and wrapped to your specifications. Originally from Calgary, we made the bold leap to rural life to raise our family and cattle. RichEarth Acres is a small Alpaca farm with a focus on the Fibre Arts.

Our focus is on creating and making useful and purposeful items with alpaca fibre.

• Come and meet our herd of Alpacas, watch and join in on demonstrations on how the wool is processed from animal to wearable items, like mittens, sweaters and socks.
• Try your hand at preparing fibre and spinning with a drop spindle. We will also have demonstrations on weaving and locker hooking.
• See our local children's author and her alpaca book, "The First Day the Snow Fell" , inspired by the farm.

Our main grain supplier is Schneider Farms, a fourth-generation farm located three miles from the distillery. Our products are packaged in a distinctive trademarked bottle that is a replica of the Leduc #1 drilling rig, paying tribute to our rich history of both agriculture and resource development in Alberta. It is Alberta in a Bottle. Our aim is the be a leader in the craft industry and foster partnerships with other local businesses while producing the highest quality spirits possible for our customers. We offer tours and tastings, and both private and semi-private events. Our distillery is located on a working hobby farm, utilizing the land and the livestock.

For 2024 Alberta Open Farm Days we will be hosting hourly tours as usual.

Rocking T Farms is a regenerative first generation family farm.

We are producing pasture raised, rotationally grazed pork, grass-fed and cover-crop finished beef, rotationally grazed goats and pasture raised eggs. Our main goal is to rejuvenate the place we are lucky enough to call home. Rotationally grazing pigs and letting them root up the sod, smoothing it out with a disk after them and seeding a highly diverse cover crop after them which will be used to finish our beef, we aim to break up monocultures of willows, strawberries and timothy and increase bio-diversity. Our health relies on the health of our soils, the health of our plants and the health of the animals we ultimately consume. Soil health is, therefore our main priority. With rotational grazing practices, we ensure our pastures don't get overgrazed and manure is spread out evenly on all our grounds and not concentrated in a few spots. We embrace the different manure types as much as we want diversity in our animals and plants.

Join us for a day of moving animals, walking through our pasture and learning about regenerative agriculture.

We love to share what we have learned so far of soil health, animal health and ultimately, human health; the connection between the soil microbiome and the human microbiome. Start the day with a yoga session, grab a cup of coffee and enjoy a day on the farm.

Our family operates a closed Hereford cow herd calving annually. Located approx. 60 miles north of Edmonton just off of the Ft. McMurray highway, we are part of the lush semi-wooded Parkland Region which surrounds our farm. Our pastures and hay lands are pesticide and herbicide free. Shipwheel Cattle Feeders Ltd. is a 4 the generation farm owned and managed by the Holtman Family.

We are a 40,000sq ft greenhouse located east of Didsbury, Alberta. We grow two different types of cucumbers, eight types of tomatoes, hot peppers, bell peppers, butter lettuce, and kale. We also grow 12 acres of field vegetables.

What sets us apart from other greenhouse and garden growers is that we grow all our vegetables WITHOUT the use of synthetic pesticides. Our kids can walk into the greenhouse and eat fresh veggies right off the vine.

We guarantee the quality of our product, if you’re not happy we’re not happy.

When the Alberta Wheat Pool company announced the demolition of the Grain Elevator in 1995, the Society stepped in, purchasing the 1958 Grain Elevator for $1, thereby preserving it as a lasting legacy of the Agricultural history of the area. Today it is a Provincial Historic Resource and a functioning museum, visited by several thousand visitors from all over.

Many of our vegetables are grown right here on our chemical-free farm, located just southeast of Red Deer. On our farm we are dedicated to creating healthy, living soil and practicing sustainable farming methods. We avoid synthetic fertilizers, fungicides, and pesticides. We use cover cropping, crop rotations, and hand/mechanical weeding to manage weeds and nutrition our farm. Come see how we grow our food and learn about sustainable farming and land stewardship!

Stettler District Agricultural Society welcome our community and visitors from all areas of the Province to our Exhibition Grounds to recognize Open Farm Days.

This year in recognition of the Alpaca and the contribution and importance that they make to Alberta Agriculture we have both live animals and vendors that market the products derived from the Alpaca.

• We are also hosting a Bench Show in conjunction with the Open Farm Day event, this will include all categories - Horticulture, Baking, Sewing, Knitting/Crochet, Photography, scrap booking and art. Open to Adult and Junior divisions.
• We partner with our Stettler Public Library as a leg of their Amazing race, we provide an information sheet on the featured sector of the Agricultural industry for 2024, in order to receive their clue for the next site they have to answer a short question page, this year being about the Alpaca.
• The County of Stettler are providing a Barbecue for Open Farm Days, open for free to the community and all visitors.

We will be participating in open farm days on Sunday.

Come take a stroll through patches of sunflowers and wildflowers or enjoy a walk through the pumpkins. Sunflower & Swallow is a small place people come during the summer to have their photos taken or pick a bouquet of flowers.

You will be able to bring your children and take a look at small farm animals and walk through the flowers. We will have crafts for kids, a park for them to play at and a scavenger hunt to participate in.

• We will have u-pick flowers for sale and a local florist on site to help you arrange them.
• Depending on crops we should also have some produce for sale as well.
• We provide all the tools you will need to pick flowers so just bring yourself.

 

For 27 years we have enjoyed these amazing animas, alpacas are not pets, they are simply beautiful animals that are enjoyed from a distance.  

When visiting the farm you will see alpaca mom's (dam's) alpaca dad's (sire's) and their beautiful babies (cria). They might be racing around the pen or enjoying an afternoon nap, regardless you will love them

Sunnyhill like's to keep their alpacas calm and stress free, visitors are not allowed in the pen. **No dogs allowed (alpacas are terrified of strange dog's)**

Alpaca has the perfect fleece for making cozy yarn, yes you read right, alpaca yarn is super soft naturally and hypoallergenic.
Twisted Sisters Mill takes the annual shearing from Sunnyhill and produces the yarn right here on the farm. 100% local natural product.

Renee Henry co-owner of the Twisted Sisters, will provide mill tours.

 On the tour you  will see and learn how this amazing exotic fibre is turned into beautiful yarn and roving's.   Mill Tours will be once per hour each day:

Saturday 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30. 

Sunday 11:30, 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30. 

*You must be 12 years of age to go on the tour, we are asking for a donation - cash only that will be donated to the food bank.

Welcome to the Cherry Farm!

The Cherry Farm is home to 600+ cherry trees, 150 haskaps, 60 apple trees, 14 highbush cranberries, and choke cherries; all available for u-pick at different times throughout the summer and fall. Some cherry varieties will be ready to pick at Open Farm Days. Have you ever picked a cherry off the tree? There is nothing quite like it. Our trees are all under 7 ft tall, so even toddlers can experience the joy of picking fruit. There will be some great photo opportunities on your visit.

Throughout the Open Farm Days weekend you may experience orchard tours, pruning demonstrations, u-pick and of course some great cherry eats.

Did you know that we have small batch ice cream made using the fruit from our orchard? You will want to make sure to try it while you are there! There are five flavors to choose from including Cherry Almond, Cherry Cheesecake, Vanilla Cherry, Black Forest and Haskap. There will also be rhubarb punch, cherry cheese cake popsicles, haskap hand pies, cherry pies and preserves for sale. We are open for Open Farm Days Saturday August 17, 2024 from 10-7, Sunday August 18, 2024 from 1-5.

Special for Open Farm weekend:

• we have a large barn filled with tables to meet local artists and purchase art such as painting, beading, and pottery as well as baking, produce, served food and high tea.

A place to purchase locally grown farm-fresh products, ready-to-eat meals, preserves, or a place to enjoy a hot meal in our comfy, cozy, country kitchen. We offer family-style dining and individual plates.

We are a group of small farmers, neighbours, and committed believers in a local food system that makes sense. We work together cooperatively to support one another and offer guest meals made from products with a story grown here in Alberta. 

Our members are humble, but they raise beef, hogs, turkeys, potatoes, beets, tomatoes, garlic, pumpkins, and everything in between. We turn that into meatballs, perogies, burgers, pies, and cakes, and our ingredients are as homemade as you can get. 

We have the perfect space for workshops, clubs, private professional office events, and a learning environment. We can customize our space to make most gatherings comfortable, cozy, and memorable.

We invite you to join us on our centennial family farm in Red Deer County for a day of family fun picking your own produce!

Blaine, Leona, and their three sons work hard to grow a variety of delicious fruits, vegetables, and flowers. You can find everything from strawberries, raspberries, and lettuce to pumpkins, artichokes, and potted flowers. Spend the day with us during our summer and fall seasons to experience firsthand the joys of harvesting your own produce. And if you’re feeling hungry, you’re in for a treat!

The Kneehill Historical Museum is operated by the Kneehill Historical Society, a non-profit, CRA registered organization dedicated to preserving the history of the people, events, and culture of Kneehill County.

A Recognized Museum by Alberta Museums Association, Society members strive to uphold museum standards, as well as operate an accredited Alberta Visitor  Information Centre.  Staff are ready to help you with your inquires or questions  Tour throughout the six buildings plus railcars,  all housing thousands of artefacts.  Get the scoop on local resources at the Visitor Information Centre.  Hear about area stories kept in the history library--helped by a willing staff. The Lilac Row is a cut-flower family farm in near Coaldale Alberta.

We offer fresh seasonal bouquets, full wedding services, and specialize in creating unique events such as flower U-Picks, workshops, and classes.

Our on-farm flower U-Pick gives guests the opportunity to choose, cut, and arrange their own bouquets with the help of your farmer florists. We also host on-farm private and public events. Hosting an event yourself? We can also bring the blooms to you with our flower trailer named Sarah!

We are thrilled to invite guests to our farm for a complimentary garden tour, where we'll discuss our cut flower production and the challenges of growing flowers in Southern Alberta. Guests can purchase one of our fresh bouquets to take home or simply enjoy conversations about gardening and ask any questions they may have.

The Little Market Farm lives up to its name. Our small 4 acre farm produces a large variety of vegetables in a small footprint. We grow in soil, without the use of synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Our produce is non-gmo, nutrient dense and delicious.

 Your day at our farm will include a farm tour of our greenhouse, mushroom growing tent and cheeky chickens.

Stay for one of our demonstrations. There will be a small group of local vendors selling their products. Shop our farm and save yourself a trip to the grocery store. Grab a snack, take a seat and enjoy the view. Face painting and some activities will be available for the kids. While your here visit the World Famous Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington. Our farm will be open to visitors Sunday August 18th, 2024 from 10am to 4 pm. **We have guardian dogs and chickens so we ask that you leave your pooches at home.**

Have a relaxing self guided walk through the farm and view some of our Yaks, alpacas, and Turkeys! Visitors will learn a variety of Yak facts as well as get to visit our on farm display store of all the great yak products we sell across Alberta!

• We will also be offering a delicious $5 hot yak lunch ( cash only).
• Yak hotdog and pop or water $5 or a bowl of our famous Yak Chili with a pop or water $5 Our hot lunch will be available all day while supplies last!

Cash is preferred but we do accept debit or Credit in the farm store. Plan to bring a cooler as we have a variety of delicious frozen yak meat available! Other products available; Yak tallow skin care products, variety of yak blend clothing, Yak wool sock, mugs, hoodies, yak stuffies, stone bracelets from Nepal and raw Yak fiber for carding and spinning. Our farm will be open to visitors on Saturday, August 17th 9-7pm and August 18th 9am-7pm This is a working farm with dogs on site please No Pets Allowed on site. Please unsure children are accompanied by sufficient supervision. Please avoid running and screaming around the yaks to unsure the best hands on experience.

Opened in late 2015, Theoretically Brewing is the passion project of two pals: Kris and Kel. Kris is a Chemistry Instructor and glass blower at the University of Lethbridge, and Kel is a local historian with a passion for beer. The Brewery focuses on the recreation of older styles with modern ingredients, taking inspiration from European brewing methods and styles while highlighting locally grown Canadian ingredients. Theoretically Brewing Co is an LGBTQIA+ owned business with deep ties to Southern Alberta, the local live music scene, and has many wonderful programs and events going on all the time!

Thompson Farm is a family farm, focusing on producing premium quality freezer beef.

We raise Speckle Park cattle, a breed developed in Canada, which is known for its efficiency of production, as well as producing beef with amazing marbling, taste, and tenderness. Our vision is to create quality, locally raised beef, while engaging in responsible land management practices and maintaining the well-being of our animals. With a mind to our footprint, we have several ongoing conservation projects with more planned.

During our Open Farm Day, we will have a food truck on site with meals available to purchase.  They will have a full menu, including dishes prepared with the farm-raised beef we are proud to produce.  They will begin serving at 11:00am. Check out the details HERE

From the abundant trees and wildlife to our flower field and vintage barn, we think you will love it here as much as we do.

We specialize in growing herbs and cut flowers. In particular, we focus on tea herbs including calendula, echinacea, chamomile, feverfew, valerian, skullcap, lavender, lemon balm, peppermint, beebalm, tulsi, and ashwagandha.

Cut flowers include sunflowers, amaranth, zinnias, scabiosa, snapdragons, peonies, statice, nigella, and yarrow, among others.

We will be open for visitors on both August 16 & August 17, from 10 am to 4 pm each day. At 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00 we will be hosting a talk about what we grow and why we grow it, with a focus on how plants improve our lives. We will also be demonstrating essential oil distillation, and will have hydrosols available for purchase.

Our u-pick will be closed but we will have a bouquet bar where you can select flowers and create your own bouquet to take home. We will also have fresh herb bundles available.

Feel free to bring a picnic lunch, wander around the farm, and visit with the horses and chickens.

The Trochu and District Museum will be exhibiting heritage farm tools and photos at the Trochu Arboretum as well as at their downtown location.

The Trochu Arboretum will be hosting an Open Farm Days Festival.

Our mission is to offer activities that align with "Grow a Farmer" where our the guests will get to experience all aspects of agriculture from Farm to Table.

The Trochu Arboretum will act as a hub for guests to Kneehill County exploring other Open Farm Day listings.

This is an indoor venue that will offer our guests the experience of a small town flower show and fair. This is a judged competition of flowers and vegetables submitted by locals of their best specimens from their garden. Come check our the best flowers and plants that this season has to offer.

Pioneer Outpost

Attention Fernie and Crowsnest bound travelers! Spice up your road trip and make the Pioneer Outpost a pit stop on your next drive down the Cowboy Trail. Located on the U Lazy U ranch 3km south of Chain Lakes Provincial Park, the Outpost is a perfect place to stretch your legs, take in some scenery and load up on Alberta's finest meats. Offerings will include the full line of Pioneer products, a selection of locally sourced pantry items and even firewood for your weekend adventure.  

We are a family farm growing potatoes for local Farmer's Markets as a member of Innisfail Growers.

Come out and learn how we grow our potatoes and prepare them for the markets.

You will have the opportunity to dig your own potatoes in the field (great for kids to learn where their food comes from) and learn about the history of our farm. There will also be pre-washed potatoes available for sale if you prefer not to play in the dirt.

Come, See and Learn where your milk is coming from !

Come and see our wonderful dairy cows ! We are a local family run dairy farm with 120 milking cows. Located 25 Km West of Innisfail on Highway 54. Started the dairy in 2001.  Our cows live in a free stall barn and the cows are milked in a  herringbone milk parlor. We are raising our baby heifer calves as well.

• To give you an inside look of the dairy operation, we are giving tours of our dairy.

• There will be fun games and activities for kids and you can try to milk Daisy our milk cow too !

And also, have a visit at The Dairy Saloon, ice cream and cheese will be available. Our facilities are wheel chair accessible as well. Hope to see you !

We are a first-generation family farm working to revitalize the small-scale farming lifestyle that is such an important part of Alberta's history. We grow and sell vegetables, herbs and flowers, and we bake, pickle, ferment and dehydrate to sell and store through the long winter months.

We also live completely off the grid, meaning that we have no power, water or gas lines to our property. Our power comes from solar panels and is stored in batteries, with a propane generator for backup as we learn how much infrastructure is needed to supply our power needs. We burn wood to heat our home and we capture and store as much rain water as we can to water our gardens.

Enjoy feeding and petting these delightful creatures while discovering fascinating facts about animals farmed throughout Alberta. Your farm visit is entirely self-guided, allowing you to explore at your own pace and create your own unique experience. During your self-guided visit, you'll interact with most animals from the gate, but you can enjoy a more up-close experience with the donkeys, goats and sheep. There will be water and popsicles for sale- cash only and FREE quad pulled hay ride every hour.

• You will complete the tour with washing demo and carding and spinning.

Visitors will then have an opportunity to visit the sales table. Accommodations Seating areas, picnic table. Bathroom avail in farm house. No public toilet. 2 hand washing stations 1 at viewing pen 1 by the demo table where the washing of mohair takes place. What does this visit mean to someone who has not stepped on to a farm before? A completely different life style then what they have in the city! Things you will learn:

• Much of the meat comes from the herd.
• Care of animals is a daily priority
• Certain procedures are seasonal shearing for example is done the first week in March and Labor day weekend.
• Kidding out takes place from Mid Feb To early April

Wild Country Gardens is made up of a fruit and vegetable farm!

We are nestled in a beautiful forested area near Wildwood, Alberta just off of Yellowhead Highway. Our orchard consists of over 2800 fruit trees and bushes, all planted by us over the last 16 years. The Gardens feature approximately 2500 heads of garlics and a large variety of vegetables and herbs which we use for making our products.

We will be offering guided tours of our farm explaining our farming practices and what is working for us. The tour can take as long as 30 minutes and up to 1 hour depending on the group.

We also offer the opportunity to shop in Wild Country Gardens Farm Store which is filled with Alberta made products made by us, such as preserves: jams, syrups, pickles, sauerkraut and pepper jellies; Freeze Dried Products: Candy, Ice Cream Treats, Fruit Snacks, Fruit Smoothie Mixes, Vegetables and Herbs; Local Made Soaps, Balms and Creams; Puschens which are crocheted slippers with leather soles lined with sheepskin and accented with deer antler buttons. Coffee will be on all day.

We are a family owned and operated bison, elk, longhorn, beef and wild boar farm.

We do have a few horses, dogs and cats as well. We make all our own feed as well we operate a farm store where we sell our farm raised, grain finished, government inspected bison, elk, longhorn, beef and wild boar meat. As well we have a large selection of canning, freeze dried items, leather work, sewing, gift ideas, seasonal local produce and so much more! Although due to farm biosecurity rules to keep our farm and other farms safe we do not offer tours but you will drive by pens of bison and elk. Plus the longhorns will be close looking for treats! The wild boar are also a main attraction to look at! The horses and dogs will also be available to pet. We will be available to answer any questions you may have. As well we have information boards with interesting facts about our unique animals. We have a large store yard so your more than welcome to come enjoy our farm, have a picnic lunch !

The Windy Rafters Barn farm was homesteaded in 1905 and has the 6th generation on it now.

Presently operated as mixed farming with a few cattle. Our favorite focus is on what life was like when the area was homesteaded in 1905. Activities that highlight this focus are: TOURS: 1910 Work horse barn, 1905 one room school, replica 1905 homestead cabin, weaving shed, Hay wagon tour of the area and history.

Join our family for our first Alberta Open Farm Days, sharing our bison ranch with you!

We started with the purchase of this property 2005 as first time ranchers with 8 bison. From there we have grown to have two herds in two different counties, grow our own hay and work to improve the soil health of our properties.

We are offering free tours to view the bison, our equipment, our handling system and our current soil improvement field growth.

We will be open Saturday August 17 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and Sunday August 18 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Our Meat store will be open during all hours. Offering a full selection of flash frozen vacuum sealed bison meat cuts, with no beef, pork or other products added. There will be some ready-to-eat refrigerated items such as pepperoni and jerky available. Dog bones will also be available.- Don't Forget to bring your cooler! We will also have bison skulls for sale, offer children's worksheets about bison, offer cooking and recipe cards and tips, and offer bison fibre to touch (did you know it's warmer than wool and softer than cashmere?). Portable toilet and hand sanitizer on-site. **Cash and e-transfers preferred, credit cards accepted.**

Walking Guided Tours will be offered as follows: - walking through fields on uneven ground. Wear walking shoes.

Viewing and explaining the equipment - little walking 10:00 am 11:30 am 1:00 pm Walk out to the bison handling system and see how it differs from cattle, then either return to the beginning, or continue on for a walk past bison to a field we planted this year to improve our soil health and to feed the bison in the fall. It is an exciting brassica blend that includes turnips, tillage radish, crimson clover, German millet, forage peas, Italian ryegrass, buckwheat and several other plants. Update August 1 - Due to the extremely hot July and lack of moisture, this field is only showing a few varieties that are struggling, and some have gone to seed(pods) or died. We are going to let our yearling bison into this field this week to start eating this as it will not last until fall as we had planned. You will still have a chance to walk out and view what the negative effects of an extremely dry hot summer has had on a new brassica crop, and likely see what plants the bison eat first. 10:30 am 12:00 noon 1:30 pm
