Come Join 5S Farms for our second Open Farm Days On Saturday August 16th

This is a great chance to get up close to some of our livestock, and a full in depth view of the Butchershop. This is where we process all the animals on site for a full beginning to end, Farm to Table experience for our customers. 5S Farms is a fully licensed Butchershop and retail location. We will being doing some meat processing Demo's through the day and Hosting a BBQ for lunch.

Our farm will be open to visitors on Saturday, August 16th  2025 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for free tours and demonstrations:

EVENT ACTIVITES

• BBQ, Homemade Burgers as well as Hotdogs & Taco in a bag 11am-3pm (Cash and Card accepted)
• Retail store open from 9am-5pm (We offer Steaks, Burgers, Jerky, Sausages, Bacon, Flour, jams, Tallow lotions, soaps and much more)
• 1/2 Pig cutting demo. learn how to breakdown a 1/2 pig from whole carcass into edible steaks and pork chops.
• Free Glitter tattoos 10am-4pm

Pig Cutting demo will be approximately 90 minute session. Will demonstrate how to break down a half of a pig into the cuts you would see at your local grocery store and some cuts most major retail chains do not offer. Will give a guided breakdown of the processes, the tools used and regulations that govern our butchershop as well as the knowledge so that the consumer can not only make smarter choices on what they eat, but what best suits their families. All visitors will be able to tour the butchershop during these sessions and spend as little or as much time as they like, whether its just watching or asking questions.  

ALCLA Native Plants is a native plant nursery founded in 1992 and operating in Carstairs since 2023.

We offer genetically diverse, sustainably sourced native plants and seeds—featuring over 200 species of wildflowers, grasses, and shrubs native to Alberta, on Treaty 7 Territory. We also provide custom growing and educational services.

Native plants are climate-adapted, drought-tolerant once established, and essential for supporting pollinators, birds, and other wildlife. They’re also stunningly beautiful—and many have edible and medicinal properties.

All of our plants and seeds are free of chemical pesticides.

Welcome to Anohka Distillery!

We are a farm based distillery, where we grow our own wheat and barley in order to produce the best whisky in the world!* In addition to whisky, we make the some of the best gins in the country.**

The Long Grass Studio provides the land and space for Estrella Farms to produce this golden nectar.

We harvest 100's of litres of honey from our hives.

• You'll have a chance to suit up and visit the hives - then pick up a jar or tub of this great tasing honey to take home. Doesn't get any fresher than this!

• The Long Grass Studio has a kiln and fires up pottery on a daily basis. We'll even have a few pots to look at!

ARAS Community Growing Patch

It is a vibrant community garden space where people come together to grow vegetables, fruits, and flowers while learning from one another through weekly workshops and hands-on experiences. Regular programs include Saturday learning sessions and our Lil Wigglers “mom and me” garden group on Wednesdays.

During Alberta Open Farm Days, we’ll offer:

• U-dig vegetables for sale (including beets and more)

• Guided tours of our seasonal projects like the lasagna garden, potatoes in straw, and Three Sisters planting

• Local vendors, community demos, and

• The Strathcona County Bookmobile, with family-friendly activities

It’s a welcoming, interactive day for all ages — come see what we’ve been growing together!  

We are excited to be participating again this year!

We welcome you all to our homestead, where we're operating a CSA style market garden.

We will be running free tours of our property hourly.

Again this year we will have the delicious sourdough creations from Three Sisters! We are excited to have our new cows for you to meet!

• You will also meet out adorable Nigerian Dwarf goats, piglets, lambs and turkeys!
• You will also get a tour of our gardens and learn about our no spray, low till systems.
• We will have a selection of in season veggies for sale. Our garlic will be fresh out of the ground as well!
• You will have the opportunity to purchase some feed. So you can go in to feed and play with the goats and lambs.

Cash works best however we have square as well for debit/credit. Please leave your four legged friends at home.  We do have farm dogs and they don't like competition for attention. We have electric fencing, assume all fencing is live and stay with the tour please.  

Aurora Alpacas is a family-owned alpaca ranch on 80 acres.

We purchased our 1st two alpacas in 2017 and since then, we have produced National, Supreme and Color Champions, which we are extremely proud of.

Currently we have 28 alpacas with 9 cria (babies) expected this summer.

If you are curious about alpacas & the amazing fiber products and how they are produced come visit us to learn & experience this unique livestock firsthand. Learn to love alpacas like we do by getting a chance to:

• ask questions and gain 1st-hand knowledge about what makes alpacas so unique
• take photos and watch them in the pasture and up close
• handle fiber shorn from the alpaca this past spring, and samples from the various stages of processing fiber into yarn
• watch spinning/weaving demonstrations
• visit the market to purchase alpaca products, yarn and alpaca novelty items

We've also invited some local vendors to share in the fun - other products on site include pottery, hand-made soap and more.

Open both Saturday & Sunday - experience everything alpaca!  They are simply irresistible.

Sunday August 17 - El Mero Mero Food Truck will be on site.

We look forward to sharing our amazing alpacas with you!

Bookings are NOT required as there is lots of space for parking, but feel free to register ahead of time if you want.

Welcome to Alberta Open Farm Days.

We are so excited to be opening up our farm to all of you.

We can't wait to show you our piece of heaven, the coffee roaster and what we do to create our coffees.  We will have a variety of coffees available for purchase and can accept cash, debit and credit cards.   Our 400g bags are available for $18.00 and include our Sealegs Sumatran, Country Roads Columbian, Beans Brazillian, and others as well.  We will also have our signature flavours Murphy's Irish Cream, Kilts on Grogg and some new flavours to welcome to the line up; these 200g bags are available for $12.00. Family is very important to us, so come and meet ours.

• Learn about how we roast coffee and about how beans are classified based on where they are grown and much much more.

We will have lots of games for the kids, coffee samples and some tasty treats from our friends at Twisted Fork; a farm to table restaurant in our community.

Farm Tours

Farm tours are free and last about 30 minutes. We take a walk through the farm, learn about soil health, beneficial insects and plants, solarization, crop rotation, and much more.  

We are an Alberta Cottage Winery

We grow all of our own fruit for use in making of the wines We make 4 wines, The Barb (rhubarb wine) The Rhuby (rhubarb strawberry wine) The Other Red (raspberry wine) and The Jewel (sour cherry wine)

Activities:

• You can participate in mini tours of the winery facility (free)
• Enjoy meeting our animals sheep, chickens, donkeys and cows (free)
• Purchase a glass of wine and stroll through our Barrtizan Market that will include many unique vendors
• Bottles of the wines will be available for purchase

Looking for an interesting place to visit? Discover the Barrhead Centennial Museum!

Step back in time and explore the rich history of Barrhead and life on the farm. Our museum features a fascinating collection of agricultural equipment, including binders, threshing machines, breaking plows, and vintage haying tools. Wander through our authentic farmhouse and see what daily life looked like in the early days. Then, continue your journey through time as you visit our recreated law office, general store, and one-room schoolhouse.

Activities:

We will be providing information about our local history. Our museum also gives plentiful information about water conservation and will be hosting spinners, weavers and have a rope making demonstration. Also enjoy finding our mystery item for the bingo activity! You'll also find captivating displays of local wildlife, insects, and birds, offering a glimpse into the natural world of the region. Our self-guided tour takes you from the prehistoric era through Indigenous and trapper history, into the arrival of European settlers and the story of the Klondike Trail. Hear the stories of the people who helped shape the community—preserved and shared within our museum walls.        

A tour of seed cleaning facility.

It provides Seed Processing services which include cleaning (removal of weed seeds and impurities), upgrading of commercial grain, seed treating as well as seed sales on behalf of local growers.

For Alberta Open Farm Days we will provide FREE guided tours of the Plant with In depth explanations of the processes involved to ensure excellent seed quality.

There will be displays of the different types of grain we process as well as displays of germination and disease tests. Booths from GRO (Gateway Research Organization) and 20/20 seed labs, demonstrating the value of seed grain cleaning. Pictures, displays and tours of how the five machines in the plant operate to remove weeds, dust and debris from producers grain brought from the field so it can be seeded next year in their production practices.

In celebration of this year’s Alberta Open Farm Days theme, “Water,” the Eastern Irrigation District invites you to explore the vital role water plays in southern Alberta agriculture with exclusive guided tours of the historic Bassano Dam.

Beck Farms was established in 1986 and has since then been mastering the art of cultivating carrots for over 30 years.

Welcome to our U-Pick!

You are welcome to take a self directed tour of our fruit, veggie and flower u-pick farm on August 16 and 17 and pick your way through our beautiful gardens! Produce is neatly labeled to better understand how and what the plants are.

We are a family farm growing U pick fruits and vegetables since 2009 starting with our first crop of strawberries which promptly got hit with hail!  Days later there was a strong scent of berry juice, shock and heartbreak in the air.  What an education! Crops can be gone in minutes - frost on blossoms, drought and heat, hail and snow, it's crazy. What a business to be in!  But it's not always horrible and we enjoy nurturing seedlings and seeing them mature into something people enjoy picking. After a long Alberta winter's wait, the rush of Spring begins with planning and planting, tending, weeding, watering and sky watching.  Cool Alberta nights produce the best tasting crops!  And when it’s time, the invitation goes out via word of mouth and social media videos to come over and pick, pick pick!  In 2023 we added more picking pleasure for our customers:  a u pick flower garden! Even though we are open to the public from 7am to 8pm everyday during the production months, we thank Alberta Open Farm Days and all the advertiser’s for extending another layer of invitation to come explore rural Alberta and Billyco Junction Gardens where we can be found tucked right between our major urban centres. Open Farm Days Connection — Water in Focus

Bridgeland Distillery will participate in Open Farm Days on August 16–17, 2025, offering free tours—canceling usual paid tours to open up specially for guests. Thanks to their registration, visitors can “book a tour” through their website, now offered for free on those days . The theme of this year’s event? Water—focused on how farms and food systems rely on it. Bridgeland fits the bill beautifully, with every step—from mash to bottle—woven around water.

During the free two‑day event, guests can:

• See the mash tuns where barley + glacier water meet
• Smell fermentation rising, balanced by water temperature and yeast activity.
• See the copper stills where the final spirit is produced.
• Taste the results: whisky, brandy, and small‑batch grappa, all proofed and presented with water clarity in every sip.

We will take you on a tour of our facility with a great explanation of the Brandy, Whisky and Grappa making process, followed by a tasting of 3 products of your choice. The Brooks and District Museum

We are situated on 7 acres within the City of Brooks. The 19 historical buildings, 23 antique tractors, and close to 70 outdoor farming and oil & gas implements perfectly encapsulate the area's unique spirit. Our displays pay tribute to farming & ranching, the CPR and EID, as well as the North-West Mounted Police and John Ware. Enjoy a self-guided tour through this hidden gem.

Open Farm Day activities will include:

• a parade of the antique tractors around the museum grounds
• stroll the grounds and take a look into the farming life of early settlers to the area, including one of the first pivots used in the area, and how it changed the landscape of farming
• water activities for children and families

Step into a piece of prairie history at the Brooks Aqueduct

A Historic Site built by the irrigation division of the Canadian Pacific Railway in the early 1910s. Once a vital part of an ambitious irrigation network, this impressive structure stretches nearly a kilometer across the prairie landscape.

During Open Farm Days, explore the site, learn about early irrigation innovations, and discover how water helped shape agriculture in Southern Alberta. A must-visit for history buffs, families, and anyone curious about how the land was transformed for farming over a century ago!

Enjoy a tour, fun games, raffle prizes, and some locally made snacks!

TOURS

There will be two formal tours held on Saturday, each led by Christina Robinson, a Heritage Conservation Technologist with the Government of Alberta. Christina holds a PhD in Archaeology, with her research focused on the Brooks Aqueduct Historic Site!

Each tour will be approximately 40 minutes long and will take you through the fascinating history of the site—plus some fun facts along the way.

• Tour 1: 11:00 am

• Tour 2: 2:00 pm

*Visitors are encouraged to come for tours, but are more than welcome to stop in at any time!

Vouchers for a FREE Piston Broke Brewery tasting will be handed out to everyone that participates in a tour!

Who is Christina Robinson?

Christina Robinson grew up in West Yorkshire, UK, which has a wealth of industrial heritage from mining to cotton mills which developed her love for industrial archaeology. Her career as an archaeologist in the UK gave her the opportunity to work on sites that covered all aspects of the industrial past, from glass-blowing factories and dry docks to coal company housing. Her passion for industrial archaeology followed her to Canada, where she has almost completed her PhD on the Brooks Aqueduct here in Alberta. Most recently, Christina has become a Heritage Conservation Technologist with the Government of Alberta, where she cares for such sites as the Brooks Aqueduct, Turner Valley Gas Plant, Leitch Collieries, and Greenhill Mine.

The Bruderheim Agricultural Society preserves the history of our community and provides educational programs related to urban agriculture.

Join us as we tour residential vertical gardens and urban agriculture, native plant gardens at the Interpretive Centre and the community garden.

• View and hear about the changes in farm machinery through the years- from horse drawn equipment to what we have today.
• Learn about the work of a farrier and see first hand how they work on animal hoofs.
• Tours to local greenhouse, pollinator gardens and a vertical urban garden and how chickens are integrated
• Working dog demonstrations will be offered throughout the day.
• A visit to the local museum will take you back in time, learning about the farming as it was in the 1930 - 1960 era.
• Join us at the handicraft market at Walker School and sampling of local foods.

During Open Farm Days

We will be providing a brisket lunch and doing equipment demos (Tractors, spray drones)  

We will focus on this year’s theme: Water.

Tour will depart at: 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:30 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:30 pm

This 45-minute wagon tour is perfect for anyone looking to unwind, connect or reconnect with how food is produced on our farm, and get to know us.

You will discover how important water is on our farm. How and why our solar pumping system is used to water our cattle from a well.  Also, what the daily water needs are for cattle.  You will get to meet our cows with their babies, watch them graze, and interact with each other. Get ready to soak up the sunshine, breathe in the fresh air, and have a ride through our pastures with a bonus ride by the pumpkin patch opening September weekends. When you know where your food comes from, the land that the cattle graze, the crisp prairie air that they breathe in, the ranchers that raise them since birth…Our beef is raised with love and care. Remember to bring a cooler, we will have our angus beef available for purchase.

We run a mixed farm with horses, donkeys, and a few other furry friends near Sylvan Lake. Our freeze-dried shop specializes in preserving locally grown fruit and vegetables, turning seasonal harvests into delicious, shelf-stable snacks and ingredients you can enjoy anytime. While you're here,  we'll be teaching about the process of freeze drying food, enjoy petting the animals and sampling some of our delicious freeze-dried fruits and veggies, made with love from locally grown produce.

The Coaldale and District Agricultural Society

We strive to promote the importance of agriculture to the general public in our growing rural community. We believe that it is important to have a community that is aware and understanding of where their food comes from, as well as the countless hours worked to be able to grow it and get it to their tables. As a society we are working hard to achieve this, and one of our main ways is by hosting our annual bus tour. The third annual Coaldale Ag Society Open Farm Days Bus Tour has arrived! This event is a full day guided bus tour showcasing the best of agriculture in the Coaldale area. Lunch is included on the tour and families are welcome!

The 2025 CDAS Bus tour will be stopping at four different agricultural stops.

Stops include: 1: Potato Farm and Storage Facility 2: Family Owned and Operated Sugar Beet Farm 3: Modern Beef Feedlot 4: Organic Greenhouse/Farm Please arrive with your ticket(s) at 845 Spud Farms (5km south of Coaldale on AB-HWY 845) by 9:45am for registration on August 16th.

The tour will start at 9:30am at 845 Spud Farms and end at approximately 4:30 pm at 845 Spud Farms.

There will be a lunch included for all participants of the tour.

Cost for bust tour and lunch: $10 - Individual $20- Family    

We have honey bees!

We sell honey, beeswax, honey comb, and even have an observation hive.

Activities:

• Get lost in our 9 acre corn maze or try your luck at our gem mining plant.
• We carry fresh produce and fruit depending on what's available in season, we also produce goods like pies, juice, flour, pancake and waffle mix and wines, ciders, and meads with what we grow.
• We will have live local music and wine tastings and fruit pressing for juice at the winery with horse drawn wagons through the orchard.
• A farmers market with other local farms and vendors, and food trucks as well 18 flavors of hard ice cream, mini donuts, fresh baked pizza, candy apples, cotton candy, popcorn and Friceys ice cream treats made with our own fruit, grown right here in our orchard.

We have 3/4 sections of land- half is forested half is hay meadows- there are 10 km of trails for hiking. *Adaptable trailrider for people who need assistance to tour the trails.

Six generations of family farming later, we operate a mixed farm consisting primarily of vegetables, cattle, and traditional grain crops. We are known for Alberta's largest asparagus patch, freshly hand-picked super sweet garden peas, and lots of other great vegetables.

We are offering free tours* to our veggie fields on Saturday August 16, 2025!

• Come learn all about our farm and vegetable production in Alberta and try your hand at picking super sweet shelling peas, green & yellow beans, broad beans and more (based on availability).

• After the tour pop into our Country Store for some great hand-picked fresh vegetables, handmade take and bake fruit and savoury pies, preserves, Angus beef and so much more!

• Please note we are not open on Sunday. 

Our Country Store is all about home grown goodness! We offer farm-direct seasonal farm gate sales of our home grown sweet and tender Asparagus Mid May until the end of June, freshly picked garden peas July & August and many other veggies. In the freezer, you can pick up Edgar Farms home raised, hormone- and antibiotic-free, grass fed Angus beef. Also there are naturally fermented veggies, asparagus, green pea and borscht soups and ready-to-bake homemade fruit & savoury pies. The preserves shelves are brimming with a large selection of handmade preserves using traditional recipes and our own home grown ingredients with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. Everything is natural as it should be. Don’t forget your cooler! The Country Store is open 10 AM – 5 PM Monday to Saturday, Closed Sundays, from early May until early September.

ElliS Nature Centre keeps alive a tradition of caring for the land that's all about sustainable farming, studying and helping native birds like Mountain Bluebirds and Tree Swallows, and promoting environmental education and conservation. Situated on the original 1906 farmstead of the Ellis Family, it’s a non-profit set up to carry on Charlie Ellis’s vision of conservation farming. People of all ages get to connect with nature and learn about our research, which now includes partnerships with Alternative Land Use Services, Grey Wooded Forage Association, and Regenerative Agriculture Living Labs. Our farm team—made up of tenants, staff, and board members—works on creating and putting into action adaptive multi-paddock grazing plans. Our big goal is to implement AMP grazing on all grazing paddocks. As a demo farm, we want to raise awareness about conservation agriculture and show how it’s possible to raise cattle while also protecting biodiversity, water quality, and soil health.

Events On Saturday 16th:

Central Alberta Forage & Livestock Association will have a demonstration of rotational grazing tools including soil sampler, water infiltration demonstrations, and Ellis Nature Centre provide a tour of our AMP grazing paddock set up throughout the day.

Learn about watersheds with the Red Deer River Watershed Association's interactive watershed activity 

Activities for children include rotational grazing  game occuring all day.

Sunday 17th activities Ellis Nature Centre will lead a Riparian Grazing field walk to discuss how and when to graze riparian areas to keep them healthy. Drop in chicken and honey interactive workshops will run between 11-3pm. Learn about watersheds with the Red Deer River Watershed Association's interactive watershed activity 

Activities for children include a rotational grazing  game from 10-4pm.

Chicks n Chaps Farm is home to the Airbnb Heartland Bunkhouse. This year, we're inviting guests to visit our new farm location, and get a behind-the-scenes look at how we're building a farm to not only raise our growing cattle herd, but to grow community as well.

Only a short 25 minute drive east of Edmonton, nestled in the Beaver Hills Biosphere, you will find a small farm with a BIG heart for people, animals, the local community and regenerative farming practices. With this year's theme of WATER, your visit will include some hands on stations about how water plays a vital role in everything we do, because after all - water is the lifeblood of every farm.

We will also have:

• a "dirt zone" for kids to play with diggers, tractors, and bouncy animals
• animals that you can meet up close - cows, pigs, horses, a mini donkey and more.
• a farm stand where you can purchase our products

Because we are a direct to consumer meat producer, we will of course have frozen meat available for purchase. We raise grass-fed and finished beef and heritage pastured pork. From ground beef to brisket, bacon to pork shoulders and everything in between, there is something for every meat lover out there. Bring a cooler along if you'd like to purchase some of our meat. We also have tallow products and spice blends that we make here on the farm. There will be food and drinks available for purchase on site. when Field Stone Fruit Wines became the first business to be granted a license under Alberta’s new estate winery regulations, which allowed fruit growers to manufacture and sell fruit wines. Today, we’re not only the first, but the largest and most award-winning, artisanal fruit wine producer in the province. We’re proud to tell you that all Field Stone wines are crafted from Alberta-grown fruit, at least 75-percent of which is grown on the winery’s own orchard. Step back into the past with a visit to the original Pegg family farmstead, established in 1913.

Join us to learn about the challenges our early farmers faced and the inventive ways they provided water for raising livestock and doing daily household chores. Young George developed a keen interest in plants and as an adult he made valuable contributions to the record of Alberta’s native plants. His original plant collector’s garden is the centerpiece of this site. Also on site: Meet our talented artists at the 11th Annual Art in the Garden Show and Sale. Maverick’s Donuts is selling delectable works of art that will delight your taste buds.

Come join us for an afternoon of fun!

On our farm where we raise Chickens, Pigs and Cattle, all on pasture or in the forest.

We will do guided Farm Tours at 1:30 pm, 3:00 pm, and 4:30 pm followed by equipment tours for whoever is interested.

• Starting at 6pm we will have a fire pit going (or BBQ depending on weather) and everyone is welcome to bring a picnic supper and something to roast on the fire.
• There is a swing set and some lawn games available for kids (or adults) to play with.
• You are also welcome to explore the farm on your own or visit with one of us by the Tent. Coffee, Lemonade and Water provided.
• The 4:30pm guided tour will include our evening chore time where we will feed and water animals, move cows to fresh grass and collect eggs from the layers!

The tours will involve quite a bit of walking through pasture and forest. Closed toed shoes are recommended. Also come prepared for the weather and please leave pets at home. We would kindly ask that you stay out of animals pens unless a farm team member is with you. ***We have some new and Exciting things planned for this year! Grey Owl Meadery is nestled on the edge of the foothills and boreal forests of West Central Alberta.

Our goal is to create meads from locally sourced clover and wildflower honey that pair well with food and competes with mainstream wine. Relax on the patio with a sharing platter or pizza along with a glass of wine or one of our non-alcoholic beverages.

Grow North Gardens is a garden center and cut flower farm in Fairview.

We grow, harvest and arrange beautiful seasonal cut flowers in our flower field to fill bouquets from June to October. During Alberta Open Farm Days we will be doing tours of our flower field with an overview of great Alberta cutting garden plants including the annuals, perennials and shrubs that form the backbone of our bouquets, we will talk all things plant health and IPM programs.  

The Gull Lake Honey Company is a family-run honey farm committed to keeping strong and healthy bee colonies.

We produce a variety of honey and beeswax products, as well as provide an opportunity for agri-tourism and honey bee education. During your visit to our farms you can experience/enjoy:

Welcome to Hamingja (Icelandic for Happiness) - Heritage Farm & Nature Preserve

A hobby farm for awareness & preservation of the ancient Scottish Soay Sheep breed, landrace Icelandic chickens and a showcase for the importance of healthy waters to farms and our world. Our 2025 guided farm tours provide a real time focus on riparian habitat health and offer suggestions for co-existence with beavers as well as providing the usual tours of our site, historical livestock, interactive demonstrations, i.e. carding and felting, viewing the Soay and Icelandic Sheep, meeting our livestock guardian dog “on the job”, and learning about honeybees. With our farm's location on the lands and waters of the former Blueberry Springs Trout Hatchery, we are also offering a close look at the water needs of farms, communities, and our province with fostering awareness to current drought conditions, water quality, and effective water management.  Water is the Farm's Lifeblood!

There are interactive opportunities for children and families to:

• feed the rainbow and brook trout in the Big Pond
• participate in actual water sampling and analysis to determine water health
• enjoy a children's "fishpond" discovery game (there just may be small prizes...)
• become part of "Team Beaver" by building a miniature beaver pond onsite, personally discovering the engineering abilities and restorative effects of beavers on the wetlands.
• feed our Rouen ducks
• view aquatic insects, wetland wildlife and how they connect with the farm
• access  current resource materials
• view a display of a cross-section of an aquifer and its waters at our "Water Table".
• **Interested in becoming more involved with water conservation? We feature information about local watershed groups, Cows & Fish (co-existence with beavers) and ways to participate in caring for our waters.
• take a short walk to the nearby Blueberry Creek National Healing Forest, one of two Alberta forest sites officially designated towards Truth & Reconciliation, and take the opportunity to explore the labyrinth there

Your Open Farm Hosts welcome you:

• Janina, "the city girl with a romantic view of farming" is a member of the Soay and Boreray Sheep Society from the UK and is a passionate shepherdess, teacher, musician and naturalist who will tour you about the farm and regale you with names and stories of these rare and unique "critters".
• John is a fish farmer, shepherd, tradesman, bee keeper and musician who is a strong advocate for water stewardship. He is a river man, canoeist and has a passion for everything about water!
• Beulah is an educator, world traveler, and the fibre arts mentor and artisan who'll involve you in felting, fibre fun, carding and other close up looks at the fleeces of our Soay and Icelandic sheep.

Healing in Nature, we provide opportunities for all ages to connect with land, waters & life. There will be light snacks, water and coffee available at low cost (cash only), but you are also welcome to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the Valley visit! **No dogs or pets please due to livestock onsite. Artisans and vendors on site offer Indigenous Art as well as rewilding with Alberta wild plants. At Hamingja - Heritage Farm & Nature Preserve, we are sincerely grateful to live, learn, work, and travel within Treaty 6 and we recognize and  honor this ancestral and traditional homeland of the Nehiyaw, Dene, Niitsitapi, Saulteaux, Stoney Nakoda, and members of the Metis Nation of Alberta who live, carry the knowledge of, and travel these lands for time immemorial.    

At Harmonic Hills, we offer immersive, land-based education rooted in permaculture, herbalism, and regenerative living.

Our Open Farm Days programming will include:

• Guided Plant Walks and Forest Bathing through the aspen parkland to learn about local medicinal plants and wild foods
• Permaculture Garden Tours & Mushroom Bed Tours that highlight soil health, companion planting, and seasonal food production

  The Hartell homestead is a mixed farm with highland cattle, ducks, chickens and goats. They also boast a large market garden and have the first farm store in the foothills on site. We sell beef, pork, bison, eggs and lots more from right here in the foothills.

Swing on in to see all the animals learn about where your food comes from and take home some truly local ingredients grown here in the foothills. our local distillery will also be setting up a cocktail gardens on the farm for August 16th if your thirsty and above 18 go sit and enjoy the view with our friends from eau Claire craft distillery.

This year we are excited to be hosting for 2 days.

HH Farmstore is a husband-and-wife-owned shop near Goodfare, Alberta. We offer a carefully chosen selection of farm and livestock supplies, homesteading tools, and locally made goods. From fencing gear and feed essentials to handmade preserves, soaps, and other rural living products, our store supports practical, sustainable lifestyles.

We are open Sunday as well for the store but the market is only Saturday! Feel free to come take a browse of the store on Sunday as well. 

We are excited to partner with a local indigenous group to teach the traditional love of bison.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery, you pick vegetable garden, and stock of individually packed bison to purchase. As part of the experience, we are welcoming Nimihitowan by ck for two cultural demonstrations at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.   

Jackson Homesteaders is one of the oldest farms in Alberta that is still in operation on the original homestead.

We reside on the original piece of land that Thomas Jackson first occupied in 1883, after originally arriving in 1881 with Richard Ottewell. The Jacksons have a proud farming heritage and our farm has received two Century Farm awards. We invite you to come tour our farm and learn about how our operation runs. We farm 3200 acres in Strathcona County and the Edmonton area, and we partner with extended family to work another 1800 acres in Killam AB. Jacksons also run a horse boarding business, run a community garden, as well as have a small herd of Dexter-cross cattle.

• We'll be having farm tours running all weekend

• As well as up-close encounters with the horses, ponies, chickens, ducks and cows.

The tours will be for all-ages. You'll learn about the crops we grow, how we grow them, the machinery we use and some of the proud history of our farm. We'll have games for the kids and hotdogs available for purchase. Porta-potties will be on-site as well. Because it was such a success last year, we are inviting local artisans to set up and sell their wares, so please come out to support some local artists! We are located immediately north of Hwy 16, north of Sherwood Park on Clover Bar Road.

Welcome to Kootenai Brown Pioneer Village in Pincher Creek, Alberta!

We have 6 and a half acres, beautifully manicured with over 30 historical buildings, packed with artifacts, for visitors to explore. Our museum highlights the history of our area from the 1870s to 1960s here in the beautiful foothills of Southern Alberta. Join us for a day in the Village and step back in time. Lakeside Farmstead Cheese is locally crafted in Sturgeon County, Alberta using our very own single-source milk.  We are excited to offer quality products produced sustainably at the farm—food we are proud to serve on our table and yours.

Lakeside Farmstead will be providing FREE tours of our Calf Barn!

This will allow visitors to see the care of the calves, heifers and cows on our farm. There will be an overview of not only our diary program but also our beef program as well.

• We will also be providing a tour of our cheese facility for a nominal fee of $10/persons over 13 years old. This will include a look into how we produce cheese and the ageing process.

Join us for a day exploring the flowers, learning about our growing practices, touring the farm, and shopping the farmers market and studio shop. Question and answer tour times with Brittany will be offered at the marked location.

• We offer u-pick for purchase and will have food truck options on site for both snacks and meals.

We are excited to be participating in out first Alberta Open Farms Day. We are a 1st generation Homestead located 15 minutes East of St Paul. We are a small family run Homestead that focuses on self AND community sufficiency. We grow a large portion our own food, raise and process our own livestock, and teach others in the community how to be more self and community sufficient through our in person, hands on workshops. Join us for a delightful day of wine tastings and tours of our orchard and winery

Our FREE tasting and tour are at 12:00pm , 1:30pm, and 3:00pm.

Stroll through the orchard to see where our haskaps come from.  We will have a food truck on-site. Don’t miss out on the complimentary local Haskap ice cream!  

The first thing you will meet on our ranch are 3 of our 4 dogs. Jake, Shiloh and Willow greet every guest personally.

But there are many more animals to see. Alpacas, llamas, sheep, chickens, ducks, pigs, cats, guinea hens, donkeys, a horse and a pony call Lone Pine Ranch home. We are an active cattle ranch. Cows, calves and bulls are here, but not necessarily in sight. Everyone is welcome to see and observe the animals. There are eggs to collect in the chicken coop and we provide snacks you can feed to the donkeys. Besides all the animals, we also run a Bed & Breakfast. Visitors can explore our cozy cabins and check out our dining room treats.

There will also be a Country Market and Garage Sale at the ranch on Sunday the 17th of August with a variety of vendors from the region and Edmonton. Outdoor activities will include a roping station, a sandbox for kids, horseshoe pitching, glitter tattoos and other games.

We are looking forward to welcoming you to our ranch!  

We are a regenerative mixed animal family farm!

We seek to heal our bodies and our soil by implementing regenerative practices such as rotational grazing, pasture raising animals, and feeding healthy locally sourced food. We aim to reduce the need for medication and chemicals in our food. We do not feed antibiotics, use hormones for growth, or vaccinate our animals that we sell to eat. We raise pigs, sheep, cattle, chickens, turkeys, and ducks. We have a small on-farm store and website to purchase healthy food for your family.

Things to do:

• We will have pasture tours of rotational grazing to show the benefits to the animals and the soil.
• We will have a kids area were kids can interact with animals in a safe environment.
• We will also show how chicken tractors can aid in growing healthier chicken for consuming.
• We will have raw wool to see the raw product that gets turned into the clothes we wear and how wool can help the environment and has many uses.

We will have a kids area to do crafts, and learn about the importance of farming. We will have an area to share information about the importance of regenerative farming and also about how small scale farming also can assist us in ethically raising animals that are happy and healthy. The store will be open for purchases. Bring a cooler! We will have hand washing stations and hand sanitizer and ask that good hand hygiene be used to reduce risks to our animals.  

Our focus is connecting people back to the land through nature and regenerative agriculture experiences

We offer workshops and tours and provide related products to inspire action in better stewarding the environment we live in and share with others.

Throughout Alberta Open Farm Days Medieval Manor Gardens will be providing:

• Nature tours and tours of our greenhouse, poultry operations, horses, sheep, and field management.
• Our Dragon Wagon mobile market stand will be open.
• Dragonfly Spirit CreeAtions (Indigenous culture sharing), Fescue Naturalization (native landscaping), LILSA (Lake Isle and Lac Ste. Anne Stewardship Society), Fuhr Estate Winery and Craft Distillery will be present along with more vendors and organizations TBA.

Though there is no charge to attend and our gates will be open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm both the Saturday and Sunday, We recommend that people book their spots for tours ahead of time to avoid possibly being turned away if we are at capacity. Schedule:

Musee St. Paul Museum is 2 museums in one that is proud to participate in Open Farm Days !

We will be having a number of activities that illustrate farming in the early days on the Alberta prairie.

Activities:

• cream separating demonstrations, churning ice cream once the cream is separated,
• making butter demonstrations and the ever popular hay ride for kids of all ages.
• Admission to the museum grounds is sponsored by St. Paul Community Futures so participants can access all the activities free of charge.

 

The Canadian Grain Elevator Discovery Centre is a set of restored grain elevators located in Nanton.

The Centre’s goal is to preserve these three remaining prairie icons to educate visitors about Nanton’s and Alberta’s agricultural history. As often as possible, tours are conducted by former grain elevator managers or employees, who are a wealth of information about these “skyscrapers of the prairies” that were so closely tied to the well-being of Alberta communities for so many years.

• Participants will enjoy tours of the restored Pioneer grain elevator and see the rare 1929 Alberta Pool twin elevators.

Come tour our 105 year old 5th generation farm and ranch in the County “Where Water Works Wonders." Niznik Ranches is a mixed operation with farm land, grass for grazing, black angus cattle, as well as Angus Wagyu cross cattle. On Niznik Ranches we irrigate our crops with water diverted off the Bow River. In the early years we used contour flood irrigation, moving to machine levelled flood, wheel moves, ditches were replaced with gated pipe, and pivots that advanced from high pressure to high efficiency low pressure pivots. Come learn about irrigation, pet, brush, & ride horses, see farming implements old and new, enjoy cattle grazing grass on rich ecosystems, cattle handling systems, and learn the ways we use the gift of water to grow some of the best crops and grazing pastures in western Canada!

O’Canada Bison Wool corp is an Alberta farm family owned company that brings the magic of bison wool to your feet, and bison tallow to your body!

Our Made in Alberta bison wool socks simply are incredible and work - whether you are outside to work or play in winter. Bison fibre is moisture-wicking, 10X warmer than other natural fibres and make socks that can’t be beat for warmth and durability. New for 2024 was our line of moisturizing bison tallow lotion and soaps. And in 2025 we began developing a line of bison filled batting - that can be used in quilting or other insulated products that we will be bringing to market this 2025 fall. Join us to get some of the bison magic in your life on Sunday August 17th as we take groups of interested folks around our shop. You will get a chance to see how the bison fibre is collected (shearing a hide) then get processed into different grades of fibre, and even check out our batting line production machine as well. Explore yarns, socks, and much more in our 1.5 hr tours. Our bison retail products, made 100% in Alberta/Canada will be available for sale. Our Tours are scheduled at 9:30, 11:00, 1:00, and 2:30 pm.  

The OH Ranch is one of the oldest ranches still in operation in southern Alberta!

We carry one of the two oldest brands that have been continuously registered and used in western Canada. The ranch is an authentic, living embodiment of western Canada's ranching heritage. During Open Farm Days, the ranch is open to the public to come out and learn about OH history, daily operations, cattle handling, rangeland management, beef production and environmental practices in the ranching industry. We've taken up shop in the old fire hall in the hamlet of New Sarepta!

The building was destined to be knocked down, but we saw value in keeping the structure, which has played a large role in the history of our hamlet. Inside, we take local honey (some of it our own and some from neighbours) and local berries and ferment the world's oldest fermented adult beverage: Mead. You may have read about mead in Viking novels or TV shows.

We offer FREE tours and tastings so people can become reacquainted with the history and place mead has in human history.

Alberta produces some of the world's best honey, so why not also build a meadery industry at least that's what we think.      

The Olds College Smart Farm is made up of more than 3,000 acres of land

It is used for crop and forage production including state-of-the-art equipment and technology, 1,000-head capacity feedlot, commercial cow/calf herd, Purebred Red Angus herd and sheep flock — as well as expertise and leadership in ag tech research and development. The Smart Farm also has access to greenhouses, labs, incubator space, a brewery, the National Meat Training Centre, plus additional infrastructure at Olds College of Agriculture & Technology. Primarily focused on five main areas of applied research — autonomous agricultural equipment, sensors, data utilization, technology development and validation, and regenerative agriculture — the Smart Farm is working towards providing producers with real-life applied research to help them make informed decisions about implementing technology in their own operations.

We will offer bus tours of the Smart Farm and walking tours of the Campus, people are free to explore our Brewery, Meat Shop and Wetlands on their own.

Pierogerie Polish Foods Inc., a family business deeply rooted in the love for pierogi. Our story begins in 1995 in Windsor, Ontario, where our grandparents' cherished recipes took center stage in a cozy Polish restaurant. In 2016, a new chapter unfolded for Pierogerie as we embarked on a journey to embrace an organic farm-to-table ethos. Our dream materialized on a charming farm just outside Edmonton, Alberta, where a commercial kitchen was built amidst fields of sustainably grown potatoes, onions, and cabbage – the heart and soul of our pierogi.

Certified organic in 2018 our farm in Strathcona County is not just a source of ingredients; it is a commitment to sustainable and regenerative agriculture, soil health, and nutrient-rich goodness. We take pride in knowing that each bite of our pierogi not only satisfies taste buds but also contributes to a healthier planet.

Dandelions: On the Wildish Path to Well-being

Do you actually know how dandelions are beneficial and how to process them into usable states for your health? Join us as local herbalist Erin Armstrong from Wildish Well Beings shares information about proper dandelion identification, fascinating lore about this dandy flower, harvesting and processing different parts of the plant, and some of the medicinal properties of this incredible herbal ally.  We will sip on some dandelion coffee and you will walk away with a herbal creation that you made by yourself.

Come and join us for our first Alberta Open Farm Days!

We will be open Saturday August 16th 10:00 am until 6:00 pm and Sunday August 17th  10:00 am until 5:00 pm

Pitchfork Gardens opened in 2020. We grow a variety of vegetables plus strawberries and raspberries for you to pick. We grow the normal to the wild, well as wild as vegetables can get. As the season runs from spring into the fall the types of vegetables change with the season. We grow the following but not limited to: apples, beets, beet greens, beans, cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, dill, fennel, garlic, kale, kohlrabi, leeks, lettuce, onions, peas, peppers -sweet and hot, potatoes, raspberries, shallots, strawberries, tomatoes The exact varieties are numerous for all types. For example we have 20 different tomatoes, 15 different peppers, 5 types of beans, two types of peas, 5 types of onions, 3 types of leeks and 4 types of types.

Activities during the Open Farm Days Event

• PLANT A DRAGON (dragon's tongue bean) and take it home with you to watch it grow
• hot dog and a pop for $5, donated to the County of Lamont Food Bank
• garden tours, may encounter rough terrain, rocks, gravel
• visit the honey bee hives, bee careful as they are hard at work and protected with an electric fence
• pick your own veggies, most veggies should be available at this time of the year, some may be limited quantity

Come back through the summer on weekends for U-pick Vegetables, Garlic, Dill, Pickling Cucumbers and Sweet Corn.  On Sundays, join in for indigenous Ways of the Land storytelling, drumming, or games. The Sunflower Patch is a beauty to behold over the Sept long weekend along with a U-pick Apple session. The Pumpkin Patch in the fall is home to our 39th Annual Falloween & Haunted Pumpkin Festival on weekends starting with Fall-o-ween on September 21, Pumpkin Fest every weekend in October. The Priddis & Millarville Fair is unique in Canada as the longest-running, community-supported, old-time country Fair.

Located at the Millarville Racetrack.

The Fair is the place to come to learn about Alberta's agricultural heritage. Come to the Farm Yard and see llamas, miniature horses, sheep, cows, and goats. There is even a Poop Identification Station to test your knowledge of scat and tracks of wild animals. The Barns have Goats, Sheep, and Rabbits on display and in competition. The Poultry classes can be seen in the Quonset. The bench exhibits that have been judged for ribbons, and prizes are in the Arena. You can view the work of local artisans, gardeners, photographers, cooks & bakers, and woodworkers. Artistic pasture art, aka licked salt blocks that have been judged, are also on view. There are Wildside exhibitors in the arena. You can visit live birds of prey, make a flappy bat, and learn about hummingbird tagging. We have antique engines and tractors, and Model As and Model Ts, that span the generations. Horse riding competitions include light horse English, Western, and Gymkhana. Contests include pie and watermelon eating, rooster crowing, tractor pulls, a farm chore relay and hale bale tossing...

• Face painting, visiting the honey bees, watching stock dog demonstrations, or visiting Food Trucks. You can also paint a rock, decorate a cookie and visit the Sheep Creek Weavers, who have tents set up for demos and interactive activities.
• The Millarville Historical Society has many photos and wonderful historical collections on display. Agriculture For Life is bringing their interactive trailer to help you Know Your Food.
• The Millarville Farmers' Market is open from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. With products made, baked, or grown in Alberta, you can support local Farmers and Crafters at our markets.

Welcome to our frontier!

Providence Lane Homestead is a small-scale regenerative farm located just 45 minutes northwest of downtown Calgary. Since 2019, we have been Canada's only dedicated fibre farm to be certified Animal Welfare Approved by A Greener World. With our flock of endangered heritage breed Border Leicesters - the breed was featured in the movie "Babe" - and a small troop of alpacas, we use our flerd to carefully manage the land we steward, including eight hectares of native prairie, a small outpost in a critically-endangered prairie ecosystem. We believe in building community and have worked extensively with many partners, including the University of Calgary, the Alberta University of the Arts, Emily Carr University of Art + Design as well as our amazing conservation partners like MultiSAR and Cows and Fish as well as other community members (we call them our fibre friends) like our amazingly supportive handspinners and weavers, artists, makers and more. We prioritize climate resilience and rare breed conservation as we work hard to raise our heritage breed sheep in an environment where they will not only thrive, but they'll also become a critical part of building healthy soil, water and carbon cycles. As much as we can be, we are an inclusive environment and welcome guests from every walk of life. For those of our guests who may require a quiet Sensory Space, we are pleased to provide an opportunity to ground yourself, catch your breath and re-establish your equilibrium. Please ask us and we will be happy to point you in the right direction! PARKING NOTE: We have plenty of parking across the road from the farm gate. • we will be showcasing a raw fleece-to-finished rug weaving process in a single day with our friends from Traceable Textiles in Edmonton - watch them as they skirt and sort one of our raw fleeces, spin it into yarn and then weave it into a richly-textured rug, all in a single day! The resulting rug will be part of our silent auction with proceeds to be donated to one of our provincial conservation organizations.
• we will have real-life archaeologists with us from 10 a.m. until noon. Meet our very dear friends Sam Judson, Masters student with the University of Calgary's archaeology department, and Brendan Many Bears of the Siksika Nation, a member community of the Blackfoot Confederacy and Treaty 7.  We are so excited and privileged to host these two incredible people as they guide participants on a land-based walking tour showcasing the importance of water to all Albertans, from the distant past all the way through today! Many Indigenous communities consider water a source of life. Learn how water shaped the land and the people who call Alberta home, since time immemorial.
• Browse our "Down The Lane" marketplace with a range of wool and sheep-based items from Marty Lynn Studio and including yarns from our own alpacas, finished garments, hand-made sheep's milk soap and more.

• join us for fibre demonstrations with Shannon, one of our weavers from Traceable Textiles. Shannon will show how to prep a fleece for spinning and with her hand carders and table loom, guests will be able to take a turn trying their hand at this ancient technology and craft.
• a guided tour of our riparian (wetland) zones with our friend Maddy from Cows and Fish Riparian Management Society. Learn how we use sheep to regeneratively manage these vital and delicate ecosystems. Maddy will be leading tours from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m, tours will be approximately every half-hour. Or so.
• needle-felt your very own Christmas ornament! Join Tara and Jillian at 1 p.m. as we walk you through a simple design and making process on one of our handmade 100 per cent alpaca ornament forms. Jillian will be sharing a little bit about why she loves to work with natural and undyed wool - you'll catch her passion! PLEASE NOTE: workshop 1 -2 pm, fee $24/person, first-come/first-served and we do have limited spaces. Please be aware, felting needles are SHARP. This workshop is available for anyone 9 years old and up. Children MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times.
• NEW WORKSHOP - EXPLORE FESCUE CORDAGE!! I’m so thrilled to have Mackenzie Kelly Frére with us! An associate professor at AUArts, Mackenzie is an incredibly gifted fibre artist - a weaver and spinner. For this workshop, Mackenzie will be teaching participants a simple cordage technique using our native fescues - it’s your chance to get up-close-and-personal with this critically endangered prairie ecosystem. Due to the sensitive nature of this part of the farm, participants for the cordage workshop will be limited. First come, first served, $10/person. Workshop begins at 2:30pm - bring good shoes for walking

We are a commercial cow calf operation and wellness centre.

We provide unmatched agriculture inspired experiences for mental health and learning including equine therapy and the Equus Experience, and cattle experiences including the Ultimate Bullfighting Experience. We also have diversifications in miniature and rodeo cattle to support these programs.

Rocking T Farms is a first generation regenerative family farm.

Rocking T Farms is a regenerative family farm. We produce pasture raised pork and cover-crop finished beef, with plans of starting a market garden and producing cover crop seed. All health starts in the soil microbiome. Without soil health there is no plant health, no animal health, and ultimately, no human health. We do our best to contribute to the health of our eco-system through our farming practices. Rotational grazing and cover crops are at the forefront of that. Our pigs are moved on a daily basis to not only spread manure and wake up the soil, but to also prepare the land for a light tillage pass that can then be seeded with diverse cover crops. During spring and summer the cows are moved on our perennial pastures, where they feast on a beautiful mix of legumes, grasses and brassicas. In the fall, to allow our perennials ample time to set root and recover for winter, we move the cows onto the previously seeded cover crops to finish them for the last few weeks before their butcher dates.

Join us for a day of walking through our pasture and learning about regenerative agriculture.

Bring a good pair of shoes, or come with bare feet if you like, and come for a walk with us. Grab a coffee and hang out in the garden, learn where and how your food is produced. Dig a hole and look at what is happening below. Connect the dots, connect to the land and enjoy a day outside!    

What was once home to a grain and cattle farm has now been transformed into a unique country get away with many different things to see, do, and experience.

Our family operates a closed Hereford cow herd calving annually. Located approx. 60 miles north of Edmonton just off of the Ft. McMurray highway, we are part of the lush semi-wooded Parkland Region which surrounds our farm. Our pastures and hay lands are pesticide and herbicide free. The beef animals we raise from birth are hormone and anti-biotic free. We also practice responsible farm animal care and follow humane livestock management and handling techniques.

Welcome to Shirley's Greenhouse!

We are a 40,000sq ft greenhouse located east of Didsbury, Alberta. We grow two different types of cucumbers, eight types of tomatoes, hot peppers, bell peppers, butter lettuce, and kale. We also grow 12 acres of field vegetables.

What sets us apart from other greenhouse and garden growers is that we grow all our vegetables WITHOUT the use of synthetic pesticides. Our kids can walk into the greenhouse and eat fresh veggies right off the vine.

We guarantee the quality of our product, if you’re not happy we’re not happy.

Join us at Steel Pony Farm for Open Farm Days! We'll be hosting an educational farm tour at 11:00 AM on Sunday, August 17th—open to everyone and all ages. As a farm-based food hub, we work closely with local farmers and producers to offer year-round, locally curated food boxes filled with fresh vegetables, dairy, and pantry goods. Many of the veggies are grown right here on our chemical-free farm, just southeast of Red Deer. During the tour, you'll learn how we grow food using sustainable, regenerative practices—no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or fungicides. Instead, we focus on creating healthy, living soil through methods like cover cropping, compositing, and mechanical cultivation instead of herbacides. The event runs rain or shine, and there will also be a kids’ scavenger hunt and an opportunity to purchase Steel Pony Farm products after the tour. We can’t wait to welcome you to the farm!

Come take a stroll through patches of sunflowers and wildflowers or enjoy a walk through the pumpkins. Sunflower & Swallow is a small place people come during the summer to have their photos taken or pick a bouquet of flowers.

You will be able to bring your children and take a look at small farm animals and walk through the flowers. We will have crafts for kids, a park for them to play at and a scavenger hunt to participate in.

• We will have u-pick flowers for sale and a local florist on site to help you arrange them.
• Depending on crops we should also have some produce for sale as well.
• We provide all the tools you will need to pick flowers so just bring yourself.

When visiting the farm you will see alpaca mom's (dam's) alpaca dad's (sire's) and their beautiful babies (cria). They might be racing around the pen or enjoying an afternoon nap, regardless you will love them

Sunnyhill like's to keep their alpacas calm and stress free, visitors are not allowed in the pen. **No dogs allowed (alpacas are terrified of strange dog's)**

Alpaca has the perfect fleece for making cozy yarn, yes you read right, alpaca yarn is super soft naturally and hypoallergenic.
Twisted Sisters Mill takes the annual shearing from Sunnyhill and produces the yarn right here on the farm. 100% local natural product.

Renee Henry co-owner of the Twisted Sisters, will provide mill tours.

 On the tour you  will see and learn how this amazing exotic fibre is turned into beautiful yarn and roving's.   Mill Tours will be once per hour each day, tickets must be booked and paid for in advance $10.00 per person, all proceeds will be donated to the Leduc Food Bank

Welcome to the Cherry Farm!

The Cherry Farm is home to 600+ cherry trees, 150 haskaps, 60 apple trees, 14 highbush cranberries, and choke cherries; all available for u-pick at different times throughout the summer and fall. Some cherry varieties will be ready to pick at Open Farm Days. Have you ever picked a cherry off the tree? There is nothing quite like it. Our trees are all under 7 ft tall, so even toddlers can experience the joy of picking fruit. There will be some great photo opportunities on your visit.

Throughout the Open Farm Days weekend you may experience orchard tours, pruning demonstrations, u-pick and of course some great cherry eats-

Did you know that we have small batch ice cream made using the fruit from our orchard? You will want to make sure to try it while you are there! There are five flavors to choose from including Cherry Almond, Cherry Cheesecake, Vanilla Cherry, Black Forest and Haskap.

We will have pulled pork or beef on a bun for purchase.

     

The Farm on Dead Horse Flats & Peace River Petals is a mixed-use farm.

We raise cattle and pigs with regenerative techniques, as well as operate a small-scale flower farm, market garden, and UPICK. Growing animals and plants in a Northern environment brings a lot of challenges and we are up to the task! We manage our land without the use of any pesticides or herbicides. We believe that with careful attention to the land, it will tell you what is needed. Over time, our pastures will be grazed by the cattle using AMP-grazing methods (Adaptive Multi-Paddock), which will ultimately feed the soil and return it to its former glory. Our gardens are managed using beneficial insects and feeding the natural biology of the soil through intentional cover-cropping and animal inputs. Happy soil = happy plants & animals! We focus primarily on raising heritage breeds of pigs and cattle, as they are more suitable to our unforgiving climate and harsh winters. Grass-fed and pasture-raised, these animals are given the best possible life before their one inevitable bad day. Beef & Pork sales will begin soon! - We are a Canadian Certified Wildlife Habitat - Sunshine off 49 - Flower Patch & UPICK Our Grand Opening for our flower UPICK is this year and you will be able to see it in all its glory! We offer fresh seasonal bouquets, full wedding services, and specialize in creating unique events such as flower U-Picks, workshops, and classes. Our on-farm flower U-Pick gives guests the opportunity to choose, cut, and arrange their own bouquets with the help of your farmer florists. We also host on-farm private and public events. Hosting an event yourself? We can also bring the blooms to you with our flower trailer named Sarah!

We are thrilled to invite guests to our farm for a complimentary garden tour, where we'll discuss our cut flower production and the challenges of growing flowers in Southern Alberta. Guests can purchase one of our fresh bouquets to take home or simply enjoy conversations about gardening and ask any questions they may have.

The Little Market Farm lives up to its name. Our small 4 acre farm produces a large variety of vegetables in a small footprint. We grow in soil, without the use of synthetic herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers. Our produce is nutrient dense and delicious.

 Your day at our farm will include a farm tour of our greenhouse, farm store, vendor market and cheeky chickens.

Stay for one of our tours. There will be a small group of local vendors selling their products. Shop our farm store and save yourself a trip to the grocery store. Grab a snack, take a seat and enjoy the view.  A safe space to explore and some activities will be available for the kids. While your here visit the World Famous Gopher Hole Museum in Torrington. Our farm will be open to visitors Saturday August 16th, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. **We have guardian dogs and chickens so we ask that you leave your pooches at home.**

The Venue of New Hope offers a unique blend of facilities, featuring a charming barn that serves as both a cafe and events rental space.

Attached to our barn is our greenhouse and a patio area where guests can relax with a coffee while witnessing the cultivation of our own food and plants for the cafe and venue. Experience the pleasure of the outdoors within our indoor setting. Additionally, we are actively engaged in vermicomposting with Red Wiggler Worms. Learn how this system can be implemented in your gardens and homes to manage compostable items effectively. Witness the efficiency of these hardworking worms as they enrich the soil, resulting in faster and larger produce compared to traditional outdoor vegetable beds.

Upon visiting the Venue, you will receive a starter pack of red wigglers and guidance on creating your own vermicomposting gardens. Let us demonstrate the dedication of these tiny creatures in enriching your garden soil and nourishing your houseplants while handling the composting process for you.

Opened in late 2015, Theoretically Brewing is the passion project of two pals: Kris and Kel. Kris is a Chemistry Instructor and glass blower at the University of Lethbridge, and Kel is a local historian with a passion for beer. The Brewery focuses on the recreation of older styles with modern ingredients, taking inspiration from European brewing methods and styles while highlighting locally grown Canadian ingredients. Theoretically Brewing Co is an LGBTQIA+ owned business with deep ties to Southern Alberta, the local live music scene, and has many wonderful programs and events going on all the time!  

Thompson Farm is a family farm, focusing on producing premium quality freezer beef.

We raise Speckle Park cattle, a breed developed in Canada, which is known for its efficiency of production, as well as producing beef with amazing marbling, taste, and tenderness.  Check out our registered cattle at Wild Prairie Speckle Park. Our vision is to create quality, locally raised beef, while engaging in responsible land management practices and maintaining the well-being of our animals. On Saturday, August 16 we are open for casual tours all day long, with local vendors on site.

Children's activities are offered, opportunity to meet some of our livestock, including cattle, horses, chickens, dogs and cats.

We will have a food truck on site with meals available to purchase.  They will have a full menu, including dishes prepared with the farm-raised beef we are proud to produce.  They will begin serving around 11:00 am. Check out the details HERE

• Hop on a wagon tour through our fields and natural vegetation strips as we travel to visit our Speckle Park cattle on pasture.  These tours will be offered at regular intervals throughout the day.
• Local vendors will be on site.  Freezer beef will be available to purchase, as well as local vendors with seasonal vegetables and eggs. Don't forget your cooler!
• Kids' craft table and games.
• Activities with Battle River Watershed Alliance
• Virtual tour of our land in the Battle River Valley, which has been in our family for nearly 100 years.  It has been identified as an Environmentally significant area and a conservation priority.
• Demonstration of our *new* remote watering system aimed at promoting water conservation and protecting riparian health.

On Sunday, August 17 we are hosting our first Farm to Table Supper!

Join us for an amazing dining experience, prepared by Adam Wilson of Cherry Lane B&B, featuring our own farm-raised, dry-aged Prime Rib.  With locally sourced ingredients and featuring beverages from Detention Brewing and Troubled Monk , with wild berries hand-picked from natural habitat on the farm, this promises to be a meal to remember.  Live music and farm tours and a elegant table round out this dining experience. A limited number of tickets are available and can be purchased HERE.   Farm tours begin at 4:30 pm, cocktails begin at 5:30pm and supper is served at 6:30 pm. Homesteaded in 1902, our values are based on sustainable and responsible management.  Built in 1918, our barn has surpassed 100 years, and is still integral to our operation, though so much has changed around it in that time. We are always looking for ways to learn and improve to keep the land we are responsible for healthy for another century.

From the abundant trees and wildlife to our flower field and vintage barn, we think you will love it here as much as we do. We specialize in growing herbs and cut flowers. In particular, we focus on tea herbs including calendula, echinacea, chamomile, valerian, skullcap, lavender, lemon balm, peppermint, beebalm, tulsi, and ashwagandha. Cut flowers include sunflowers, amaranth, zinnias, scabiosa, snapdragons, peonies, statice, nigella, and yarrow, among others. We will be open for visitors on both August 16 & August 17, from 10 am to 4 pm each day. At 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm we will be hosting a talk about what we grow and why we grow it, with a focus on how plants improve our lives. 

Our u-pick will be closed but we will have a bouquet bar where you can select flowers and create your own bouquet to take home. We will also have both fresh and dried herbs available.

Feel free to bring a picnic lunch, wander around the farm, and visit with the chickens. We can't wait to see you and welcome you to our farm!  

We thought we'd open for tours, but with the rain holding off, it’s all hands, all hay, all weekend long ☀️

Family-run and built on equal parts horsepower and elbow grease, Toews & Bale turns good prairie grass into great hay. From alfalfa, Timothy, orchard grass mixes to custom-mixed grains, we bale it, stack it, and ship it near and far (yes, even as far as Florida).

Open Farm Days visitors can stroll the rows and see the farm in full colour, though if the weather’s right, you might catch us in the field cutting—because flowers wait for no one.

We offer free, guided walking tours of our farm throughout the day, guided by one of our family members; Rod, Andria, Jessica or Briana.

Our other family members, Janet, Derrick and others will be assisting with registration, lunch and kids play area. Rod and Janet started farming in the Dapp area in 1989 and have implemented many practices and management systems to improve the soils, vegetation, and wildlife of the farmland while also growing the farm business into a successful operation that is now in transition to the next generation. We raise cattle, poultry and hogs for our farm-direct meat business and we will have a variety of products available to purchase and take home that day! So we suggest that you bring a cooler or box!

The Trochu Arboretum will be hosting an Open Farm Days Festival.

Our mission is to offer activities that align with "Grow a Farmer" where our the guests will get to experience all aspects of agriculture from Farm to Table. We’re proud to welcome our friends from Hogarth Malt on site for the weekend as well! They’ll be chatting about their incredible malting process and how they transform Alberta-grown barley into the high-quality malt that’s a key ingredient in our brewing. At Troubled Monk, we’ve always believed that great beer starts in the field. From grain to glass, we’re connected to the land and the hardworking farmers who make what we do possible. Participating in Open Farm Days is our way of celebrating that connection and inviting you to learn more about the people, process, and passion behind every pour. Pioneer Outpost

Attention Fernie and Crowsnest bound travelers! Spice up your road trip and make the Pioneer Outpost a pit stop on your next drive down the Cowboy Trail. Located on the U Lazy U ranch 3km south of Chain Lakes Provincial Park, the Outpost is a perfect place to stretch your legs, take in some scenery and load up on Alberta's finest meats. Offerings will include the full line of Pioneer products, a selection of locally sourced pantry items and even firewood for your weekend adventure. Pasture raised beef is raised on our property. Our sons have a butchery and charcuterie business and we sell their product here.

We have 320 acres. We will have horse in a corral for people to visit. We will have some games for kids

 

Come, See and Learn where your milk is coming from !

Come and see our wonderful dairy cows ! We are a local family run dairy farm with 140 milking cows. Located 25 Km West of Innisfail on Highway 54. Started the dairy in 2001.  Our cows live in a free stall barn. And we milk our cows in a herringbone milk parlor. We are raising our baby heifer calves as well.

• To give you an inside look of the dairy operation, we are giving tours of our dairy.

• There will be fun games and activities for kids and you can try to milk Daisy our milk cow too !

And also, have a visit at The Dairy Saloon, Chapman's Ice cream, home made Apple Pie and Sylvan Star cheese will be available. Our facilities are wheel chair accessible as well. Hope to see you !

Our annual fall fair hosts the Beaverlodge Centennial Farmers Market, petting zoo, learning tent, carnival games, bench show, soapbox derby and so much more. This year there is four other groups within our area hosting activities for the day. The town of Wembley wanted to help create connections within our groups and have offered to have a bus to circulate between the four stops. Wembley Arts Cultural And Historical Society, Hildebrand Bison Farms and Haskap Berry Farms and the Wembley & Dist Agricultural Society cannot wait to host you and your families. Spend the day with us and enjoy dinner at the food trucks with a dance into the evening.  

The “Heritage Site” is a collection of locally acquired buildings situated just on the outskirts of Wembley.  The buildings range from 1927 to 1980.

On Saturday, August 16th the site will be open from 10:00am-4:00pm. Guests will be able to virtually tour all of the buildings, so don't forget your phone in the vehicle.  The are numerous spots on the site that make wonderful photo ops.  The drey barn and our stunning collection of sleighs and buggies will be open for viewing. The school and church will be host to a Quilt Show and Pie sale.

Meet and interact with Tibetan yaks, emus, alpacas, llamas, donkeys, a camel and more!

Enjoy feeding and petting these delightful creatures while discovering fascinating facts about animals farmed throughout Alberta. Your farm visit is entirely self-guided, allowing you to explore at your own pace and create your own unique experience. During your self-guided visit, you'll interact with most animals from the gate, but you can enjoy a more up-close experience with the donkeys, goats and sheep. There will be water and popsicles for sale- cash only and FREE quad pulled hay ride every hour.  

The Henderson’s have participated in Open Farm Days since its very first year.

White Treasure Farm: A farm that raises 2 breeds of Goats: Angora for fiber production and LaManchas dairy & meat we grow Native Plants and Dahlias, Centennial Rocket Tomatoes

Schedule: Visitors will be asked to sign in on arrival.

• Visitors will then be taken to Pen #1 where the selected group are penned to take part in the information Session.
• There will be a host to then take you out the rest of the herd’
• You will complete the tour with washing demo and carding and spinning.

Visitors will then have an opportunity to visit the sales table. Accommodations Seating areas, picnic table. Bathroom avail in farm house. No public toilet. 2 hand washing stations 1 at viewing pen 1 by the demo table where the washing of mohair takes place. What does this visit mean to someone who has not stepped on to a farm before? A completely different life style then what they have in the city! Things you will learn:

• Much of the meat comes from the herd.
• Care of animals is a daily priority
• Certain procedures are seasonal shearing for example is done the first week in March and Labor day weekend.
• Kidding out takes place from Mid Feb To early April

It is a wonderful life style and a great place to raise children and at the other end of the spectrum to spend Ones retirement days.   * Please no dogs*

Wild Country Gardens is made up of a fruit and vegetable farm

We are open Saturday and Sunday! Can't wait to see you.

We are nestled in a beautiful forested area near Wildwood, Alberta just off of Yellowhead Highway. Our orchard consists of over 3000 fruit trees and bushes, all planted by us over the last 16 years. The Gardens feature approximately 2500 heads of garlics and a large variety of vegetables and herbs which we use for making our products.

We will be offering guided tours of our farm explaining our farming practices and what is working for us. The tour can take as long as 30 minutes and up to 1 hour depending on the group.

We also offer the opportunity to shop in Wild Country Gardens Farm Store which is filled with Alberta made products all made by us, such as preserves: jams, syrups, pickles, sauerkraut and pepper jellies, Frozen fruits (Haskap, Saskatoons, Cherries) $6 per lb, New to our farm is our Freeze Dried Products: Fruit Snacks, Fruit Smoothie Mixes, Fruit, Vegetables and Herbs; Local Made Soaps, Candy, and Ice Cream Treats. Our Puschens are one of a kind. Made and designed by Paulette, they are crocheted slippers with leather soles lined with sheepskin and accented with deer antler buttons.   Coffee will be on all day.  

The Windy Rafters Barn farm was homesteaded in 1905 and has the 6th generation on it now.

Presently operated as mixed farming with a few cattle. Our favorite focus is on what life was like when the area was homesteaded in 1905. Activities that highlight this focus are: TOURS: 1910 Work horse barn, 1905 one room school, replica 1905 homestead cabin, weaving shed, Hay wagon tour of the area and history.
